So you can't ROID up, but it's ok to roid down.Who knows? It's a circus. It's not about sports...it's more like a reality TV show that whores itself out for ratings. The good thing is I think we've seen the peak of this kind of thing in the Olympics and sports. It's more trouble than it's worth for just about all parties concerned. I think smarter people can see that it will eventually boil down to Men vs. all comers. The poor females who devoted their lives to good, clean sport and competition will be left out of the running. Unless they want to convert over to being a male too....
How do transgender people "greatly affect" you Exmachina?Since you didn't answer my question, I'm going to assume that you think men in womans sports is okay. Because you didn't answer my question I'm going to assume you agree transgender people don't affect your life.

Are you going to answer the question or just be a smartass?
As for Vyazma’s comments, if being male to female transgender gave athletes an advantage we’d see such people dominating women’s sports. But that is just a red herring to the important issue.

But that is just a red herring to the important issue. No, there's isn't even enough anecdotal evidence on that issue. There plenty of other attributes that people have that make them excel in sports. Natural ability, height, training, coaching etc... Why in the world would you think we would see such people dominating sports? There's nothing that points towards that. None of this however takes away from frustration that coaches, athletes and fans have towards this issue. The competitors don't want anybody having advantages whether they are gold medalists or also rans. They don't want mysteries or question marks. It's that simple. That's probably why the few TG athletes in this past Olympics chose to remain closeted-unknown. Because it's like I said above-It's more trouble than it's worth, for everybody.
Enough of that red herring. Let’s return to the topic.
Enough of that red herring. Let's return to the topic. Now you want out of that box. I got it. The Topic-"Why should a person get to define their gender?" I don't know. Why shouldn't they? People can do whatever they want to do.

But that is just a red herring to the important issue.I was using the term "us" as in society, but I do take this somewhat personally. I have a very young son who I don't want to have lopping off his penis, because of people like you telling him that he might be a woman in a mans body. Is that good enough for you? Probably not. You're the type of guy who will be willing to tell a child that ALL gender is SUBJECTIVE, and that he may be a woman in a mans body. That actually pisses me off quite a bit. I know this is a shock to a person like you. I'm ok if my SON comes to his own conclusions as to what he believes, but I don't need jackasses pushing him to a liberal agenda.

That's a straw man argument. No one is pushing your son to believe anything thing. Your paranoia is controlling your thinking.

You were asking my opinion as to why it mattered to me. Though I hope your right in this. I really hope that it's me being paranoid, and that this won't get out of hand like it has been getting for the past 5 years, and that liberalism won't escalate to more craziness than it already has.
spam filter yet again screwing things up.
I’m still waiting for a rational argument against letting people choose their gender. Your emotional appeal regarding your son does not qualify. Try this. By what ethical theory do you justify denying people the right to choose their gender?
I'm still waiting for a rational argument against letting people choose their gender.Try this. By what ethical theory do you justify denying people the right to choose their gender?A sinking ship. The Captain commands that all women and children get in the lifeboats first and get lowered away. A man comes forward and says he identifies as a woman and demands to be one of the first in the lifeboats.
I fought about this so hard in the past, but I guess this is just not the group to have this discussion with. Is it semantics? Maybe the definition of gender isn't the same definition as a person sex. Ok I get that, but I think now the rules have changed. You can now define your gender, and anyone who does not accept your definition is an intolerant hater who needs to be shut down for their hateful speech. I tried warning everyone about this, but here we are. Do you move forward with the thinking that gender is a subjective concept, or is there any standard we can all live by?Who would be in charge of stopping people from defining his own gender? Should it be against the law for anyone to feel as if his gender does fit his genitalia? Would you have police checking everyone to be sure everyone is dressing and using toilet facilities according to their gender and citing them if they do not? Just how far would you take this? Since you asked, gender is something that is applied to nouns not people. "Sex" is the word to use for people. I, myself, do not like using the word "gender" instead of "sex" but the semi-illiterates have won yet again! It's a battle not worth fighting. I've given up. Quite I agree about the word. I don't like it either. Don't we all identify our sex? I have never felt the need in any venue to explain my sexual identity or orientation. Nor have most other people I know. If you show up dressed as a woman or a man in most cases we are accepted as how we present yourselves. I have never been in a place where people are challenged on their sexual identity. Does this happening regularly in the groups you find yourself in? The vast majority of people identify with the sex they were born with, even gay people. Only once did I meet a man who wanted to transition to a woman. He was accepted by the group as slighly eccentric but he wasn't ostracized. I wonder more about people who feel seriously uncomfortable around other people's sexual identity issues than by the people with issues themselves. Are you in the habit of questioning people about their sexual identity, or commenting on it? I find that truly bizarre--a lot more bizarre than people who want to change their sex.

This is why discussing anything with you is pointless. You are too ignorant to know the difference between straw man arguments and an ethical theory, and you are comfortable in your ignorance. Go get an education then come back when you're ready to sit at the adult table.
