RNC says Jan. 6 rioters engaged in “legitimate political discourse”

The Republican National Committee on Friday said those involved the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection were involved in “legitimate political discourse.”

Driving the news: The RNC on Friday voted to censure Reps. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) for serving on the House Jan. 6 select committee, which the resolution called a “persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.”

What they’re saying: RNC chairperson Ronna McDaniel in a statement to Axios following the vote suggested the “legitimate political discourse” referred to in the resolution “had nothing to do with violence at the Capitol,” likely a reference to the rallies that preceded the riot.

"… On Friday, the party went further in a resolution slamming Ms. Cheney and Mr. Kinzinger for taking part in the House investigation of the assault, saying they were participating in “persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.”

After the vote, party leaders rushed to clarify that language, saying it was never meant to apply to rioters who violently stormed the Capitol in Mr. Trump’s name. …"

It doesn’t matter because the Dems have told us that voting rights doesn’t matter

Oh you again.
Which Dems are you talking about?
Or does it even matter to you?
Do you like rolling on the floor pouting every time anything doesn’t go your way?

Do voting rights matter to you?
Do you endorse the GOP slide into totalitarianism?

Back to the theme of this thread:

" … The censure resolution was advanced in a way that maximized its chance of passage — combined with other resolutions and passed by a voice vote rather than in a roll call that would put individual members on record about where they stand. But the measure’s wording faced immediate criticism from within the party.

One line described Cheney and Kinzinger as “participating in a Democrat-led persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse” in their roles on the House committee investigating the attack on the Capitol. RNC members later claimed that that referred not to the violence at the Capitol but instead to people subpoenaed by the commission who didn’t take part in the attack.

Still, the document made no such distinction, and a number of Republicans condemned the party for appearing to exonerate the mob that attacked police and stormed the building.

Marc Short, a longtime Pence adviser, said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press”: “From my front-row seat, I did not see a lot of legitimate political discourse.” …"

The Dems say they don’t care about voting rights. The Republicans can do as they wish to win the next election

Sounds like that’s the side you’re rooting for,
and that’s what the GOP and their boosters are hoping for.

I’m still hoping Democrats get a grip, and that We The People do something to retain what democracy and voting rights we still possess. While others seem to be resigned to rolling over for the Republican Totalitarians and simply giving up.

No gripping required as the Dems have let go. All bets are off for voter suppression next election

For me, the end of this thing will be when the dotard goes to prison for the rest of his life, of which he doesn’t have much left. Of course, this imprisonment would include his cronies going to prison too, but the end of story will be when he’s behind bars for all he did. Aside from that, I could care less about what the RNC says, because they’re crooks too.

Cheney in bed with voter suppression laws. Nothing less for the daughter of a mass murderer

Are you trying to make a point?

YEH!!! you are missing the point

That’s why I’m asking you to explain it.

Cheney loves voter suppression laws and is your standard reactionary corporate stooge politican.

Peasants - lend me your ears. There is nothing else happening in the world

This won’t interest you 69, but it seems to me that it belongs in this thread to help fill in the picture a little more.

Last week the Republican National Committee (RNC) made clear that it would rather be the “Big Lie” party than the “Big Tent” party by condemning two principled elected leaders while condoning conspiracies, lies, and violent insurrection. By censuring Congresswoman Liz Cheney and Congressman Adam Kinzinger for their role in investigating the January 6th attacks, they have betrayed the GOP’s founding principles and ceded control of a once-great movement to grifters and extremists. The RNC has also signaled that it no longer welcomes people of conscience.

The RNC’s description of the January 6th insurrection as “legitimate political discourse” is an affront to the rule of law, peaceful self-government, and the constitutional order. There can be no justifying the horrific attack that day, and we condemn the Committee for excusing the actions of men and women who battered police officers, ransacked our nation’s Capitol, called for hanging the Vice President of the United States, and sought to overturn a free and fair election.

History will mark this censure as a turning point for the RNC – a time of choosing between civility and patriotism, on the one hand, and conspiracy and political violence on the other. We stand firmly for the first set of values. We stand proudly next to principled leaders such as Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. And we stand united against efforts to defile our democracy.

RENEW AMERICA MOVEMENT - ABOUT RAM

We are majority makers, the millions of men and women who are tired of radicalism in our politics and ready for reform. At RAM, we are deepening America’s “pro-democracy bench” in three ways:

People . We are supporting principled Democrats, Republicans, and Independents who have the courage to stand up to political extremists in races across the country.

Policy . We are advancing policies needed for a healthy democracy, such as the protection of voting rights.

Process . We are investing in reforms to the democratic process itself to increase competition and choice in American elections.

By working together across party lines, we can shift the balance of power in Washington, DC away from those who want to dismantle democracy’s guardrails and back to real leaders who will put country over party.

We are not just Democrats or Republicans or Independents. We are Renewers.

And we welcome you to join the fight.

Because nothing else is of interest to you. Yawn.

Please stop trying to shoe horn me into your fiction.

and so on and so forth.

This is your go to. Other side issues are just as boring - non working class matters. Even your climate change postings doesn’t touch on the political road blocks for action.

Just saying
