Rethinking Trump

The conspiracy theorist in me sees two things about Trump that I haven’t heard discussed. 1) He’s merely a foil for other conservatives and/or 2) He’s merely the chump chosen to chase Dems to the Real establishment’s preferred candidtate, Hillary Clinton.

  1. His being nasty allows guys like Cruz, Rubio, and Paul Ryan to denounce his hate and bigotry. And that has the effect of covering up their own hate and bigotry.
  2. He’s so bad that Dems will be driven to “keep the nutjob out” and vote for HC, who like Obama is a Republican in Dem clothing. Same happened with McCain/Palin.
And to make the gimmmick seem real every Repub is reacting against Trump so as not to be seen as part of the plot.

This assumes that polls and votes aren’t real, that millions of people are just pawns. It assumes political parties are capable of knowing who might run, that they can predict the success or failure of a guy like Bernie Sanders, that Elizabeth Warren won’t run. It assumes, somewhat correctly, that people are too stupid to evaluate candidates and won’t notice how bad someone is because someone else is worse. I start with the assumption that declaring yourself a candidate is pretty easy, and predicting what will happen is not. You need much more stronger evidence for a conspiracy like this.
I failed in my earlier predictions, I didn’t think Trump would get above 20% in any poll. But now, my prediction is, something really bad is going to happen. A gun is going to go off at a rally or something. Trump’s reaction will not be good. If that doesn’t happen, and he wins, he’ll resign within the first year.

Cuthbert, I, also, have a little conspiracy theorist in me, awaiting, just in case, the day will arrive when some far-fetched idea will turn out to be true. In the meantime, that little conspiracy theorist is held in check by reason.
Allow me to help you put the conspiracy theorist in you, back in his place, (the irrational recesses of your mind). There is no over-arching organized entity that is capable of orchestrating the things that your internal conspiracy theorist is telling you.

You couldn't be more wrong. Google Kermit Roosevelt. Better yet, read Overthrow by Stephen Kinzer. Those'll knock your naivete right off the table. ;)

That's not a big assumption to make. Read up on how W got selected. Diebold machines were controlled, for example.

You should check your own, however, if you can so easily generalize from our CIA having been complicit in the overthrow of foreign countries, to the existence of some internal shadowy agency that is controlling the complexities of our own political processes. Not to say that the neo-cons, did not have some efficacy for awhile in gaining power and screwing us over as a nation. But that is a far cry from the kind of micromanagement of events and individuals suggested by your opening post. And beyond assuming that there is some shadowy organized over-arching entity that is orchestrating and micromanaging events, you are also suggesting that SO MANY people must be in on the conspiracy that you imagine. (Your ill-conceived hypothesis includes Trump, Hillary, and EVERY Repub who has said anything bad about Trump, as being in on the conspiracy.)

Nobody could make up a Trump. Especially not a Republican. And the rest is far too complicated for Republicans to think up. They obviously aren't that smart. I predict that Trump and his candidacy will crash and burn before the election in November. I could be wrong, of course. Republicans along with some others may be even more stupid than I think, and wind up electing him. Then it will be the whole country that crashes and burns. I would prefer not to be a witness to it, but I don't know how to avoid it. The whole world will fall into chaos, not just the US. Lois

I am definitely in the camp that this theory is far too sophisticated for the Republicans to be orchestrating it. I believe the GOP is coming apart at the seams. Their inbred conservatism has been telling them that they need to be more conservative and get out the vote of more white males. Trump comes along and proves them wrong. Now what do they do? If they unite behind Trump, they turn their backs on the Cock brothers (I'm sorry, the Koch brothers), the Tea Party and the religious bigots who have been the mainstay of their party. If they block Trump, they lose the votes of the anti-government white supremacists who once again won't bother to vote AND they risk Trump running as a Third Party, splitting the conservative vote and guaranteeing a Democratic victory in November. Add to this that Hilary represents a real choice for Republicans, and we have a GOP in a state of chaos, not executing a conspiracy.

If I were to say the Repubs had a meeting to plan out strategy for basically blocking everything about Obama, and to make it a Repub-wide effort, including governors, you'd say that was conspiracy. And yet it's the truth. Repubs are pack animals. And they take direction as told, for example by the Chamber of Commerce, ALEC, PNAC, and others. I've seen cases where a senator i think it was literally used the Word template provided him by Alec for legislation, didn't even remove the watermark I think it was. They DO work in concert and on a large scale. In this sense Hillary was correct when she called out the vast ring wing conspiracy against her husband.

But enough about the conspiracy side. Let me make a prediction, based on my #1 being correct (Trump as scumbag foil). I predict Trump will drop out by his own choosing. He’ll come up with some reason like “I’m through with this bunch of idiot losers”. That’ll leave Rubio and Cruz looking real good, with their bigotry, theocracy, and hate nicely covered up by Trump.

Very good. I like the commitment to a prediction, to make your point. Now when Trump fulfills your prediction, please return to this thread and claim victory for your prediction. OR, when Trump becomes the Repub Nominee, please return to this very thread and express your shame at proposing the conspiracy idea, in the first place.

I don’t think you have to rethink Trump. I think you have to step back and look at the puzzle. Trump is not the issue. What we have here is a caste system voting. Over the decades our capitalist system has become more and more socialistic. And we have the establishment caste, the government working caste, and the government welfare and schooling castes to name a few. The rest of the people are in the working caste. The capitalist system has been over regulated and is not working for the American Dream.
Replace Trump with Mickey Mouse and you keep Trump’s thinking, and you would have the same results. That’s why they have not yet been able to answer the reason behind the Hispanic votes in Nevada for Trump. Trump say it’s because they love him. Are you buying that? The facts are the caste system can override the races.

As I said in my first reply in this thread, I have a little conspiracy theorist in me, awaiting the day that reality may conform to what seems irrational currently. I always understand that my current perception and derived conclusions could conceivably be erroneous. Thus, I can't accurately be ashamed of being close-minded, or someone who has not even the slightest skepticism about my own rational conclusions, because I am neither of those. But neither am I someone, who allows the most irrational generalizations to take a forefront in my thinking. (And I have no shame about that either.)

The Hispanic votes in Nevada are not so hard to figure out if you consider that every one of them thinks that when the wall is built that they will be comfortably ensconced on this side of it. They, too, want to keep Mexicans from coming here and taking their jobs, Lois

Since we’re making predictions. I predict, win or lose, finish the race or not, we will see a third party out of this. Trump or some part of his following will start it, or the remaining sane Republicans will.

A serious 3rd party run, makes no sense, because it is all but impossible in the current system for a 3rd party candidate to become President. A 3rd party run, could be effective as a spoiler to one of the main parties. Thus a 3rd party that was pretending to support progressive values, that could effectively draw votes from the Dems, could insure a Repub victory. OR a 3rd party that was pretending to support conservative values, that could effectively draw votes from the Repubs could insure a Dem victory. Hence the only 3rd party run, that would make any real sense, would be one that was essentially fake.

Employers want Mexican workers that have not been Americanized. It takes one to six years of working in the States to become Americanized. And to get anything approaching a decent wage. The employers still want people willing to work for peanuts and they have no compunctions against firing the higher wage workers and replacing them with the lower wage ones. That's exactly what happened when the present set of Mexican workers came on the scene and the workers who were receiving higher pay were pushed out.
