I’m looking at the same poll you are. The one you claimed tells you what Russians are thinking.
But youre the one adding things in by claiming to know what russian really think
I gave my opinion. From the polls, a majority of russians would like a push for peace but are unwilling to let go of crimea and donbas in doing so.
You started this by saying the Russian people support the war, then later said they want peace. That’s you “adding stuff”, but you say others aren’t seeing the evidence when they interpret the news. That’s combative.
Wanting peace but wanting to keep all the territory they got is basically asking for surrender
Basically, we all are, except now, all the countries that Russia gobbled up during WWII and shortly thereafter are now individual countries and Russia (namely Putin), formerly the USSR, wants them all back under it’s control.
Isnt that telling you then that the majority russian people support the war in its objectives regarding crimea and donbas ?
It’s two different points. One, I think it says they want surrender. Two, the methods of collecting the data are suspect, and at best reflect the older loyalists.
You acknowledge they want a surrender and not give up crimea and donbas? Where did you get the old loyalist part in the survey ?
It’s in the article I linked. It’s also in The Levada explanation of their data. It appears you haven’t been reading my responses very well. I have other things to do than repeat myself. It’s also likely, given that there are protests in the streets and people fleeing the country. People fleeing are probably not going to sit down with a pollster and discuss their feelings about their government. People in an autocracy aren’t likely to say exactly what’s on their mind.
How many are fleeing in a population of 146 million?
So are you saying fleeing is surrendering the country or is staying surrendering? IMHO, people fled to protect their families. Other have stayed to fight and still others either too old and/or too sick or giving birth, in which to flee or fight. So either way, you’re wrong if you think that means they support Russia and wish to surrender.
I am saying the numbers fleeing Russia are insignificant to change poll results. And the point raised about polling in a repressive country - has any of the western so called journalists bothered to conduct a poll of all these people about the war and why they are leaving?
Perhaps opinions here will change as they appear to be in the american media (slowly) with recent published articles with the reality of what is going on in ukraine sinking in . Articles like this

As the West did in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, we are stumbling into another optional, open-ended military commitment. Ukrainian troops are being trained in Europe. Western defense contractors are already maintaining Ukrainian military equipment and operating the HIMAR missile systems. Active-duty American military personnel are now in Ukraine to monitor weapons deliveries. As the Russian offensive gains momentum, we expect loud voices to call for sending ever-more advanced weapons and eventually NATO boots on the ground to defend Ukraine. These voices should be unambiguously rejected for many reasons. Here are a few.
Just because they aren’t fleeing doesn’t mean they support Putin. It could be they can’t leave for whatever reason. It might even be finances. They might not be able to afford to flee. OR like Pussy Riot, they could be protesting and going to prison for protesting Putin’s war. A lot have. I don’t think you can ask everyone who’s fleeing. They are too busy trying to get out of the country. They have interviewed some who managed to get out of Russia though.
