What a coup looks like

Voting irregularities. Investigations not allowed. A rush to discredit and silence protests. Prosecution of the opposition. The military seizing control of the Capitol. The public excluded from the inauguration.

Classic third-world politics happening now in the USA.

ZZ Coup - A Classic

A Classic Coup

No one stole the election. There were no voting irregularities. No vigilante was discredited, except by themselves, because one is not suppose to attack the capitol and threaten to kill people. Biden won fair and square and it’s is domestic terrorists/insurrectionists who gave cause for the National Guard to stand watch as the rightful person, Joe Biden, becomes president. The public is not excluded from the inauguration. They just cannot be there in person due to the pandemic. The only thing that was illegal and a felony was the insurrection, which gives way to having one’s guns taken from them, voting rights taken, and freedom (they go to prison). The only third world tactics came from the stupid domestic terrorists doing the dotard’s bidding. There will be a whole lot of people Magats going to prison and they will have no one to blame but themselves for their guns being taken away from them, but they will try to blame the Dems for it, even if it was their own damn fault. The question is, can the FBI catch them all and lock them up for a very long time for attempting to overthrow democracy?

Voting irregularities. Investigations not allowed.
Who was in charge of the voting and investigations?
A rush to discredit and silence protests. Prosecution of the opposition.
Who was in charge of the publicity and the frivolous law-suits?
The military seizing control of the Capitol.
Who organized and executed the illegal seizing control of the Capitol to which the military were called up?
The public excluded from the inauguration.
Why is the public excluded from the inauguration which the outgoing president is afraid to attend?
Classic third-world politics happening now in the USA.
Who was in power for 4 years that established the third-world politics that have been happening now?

Who are you trying to bullshit ???

A coup stopped would be closer, although those clowns weren’t capable of a coup, they never rose above thugs and vandals. They don’t even know enough about government to know what to do with it, if they had it. All they have in mind is revenge for imagined slights, a bit of simple blood lust and destruction in their hearts. If they know what to do with their bloodlust once they have a squad of pissed off soldiers aiming at them, guess we’ll see.

At the heart of it a bunch of brainwashed sad sacks. And who would be doing the brainwashing?

Follow the money

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/13/dark-money-gop-fund-funneled-millions-groups-that-pushed-voter-fraud-claims.html

A dark-money group used by Republican donors funneled millions of dollars to high-profile conservative organizations that pushed or investigated claims of election fraud before and after Joe Biden defeated President Trump.

That group, the Donors Trust, is officially labeled as a nonprofit. The designation allows financiers to give to the organization anonymously. That money is then channeled to other dark-money groups.

Among the pro-Trump groups that have received money from the Donors Fund are pro-Trump students organization Turning Point USA and an anti-immigration organization that has been called a hate group.

A rush to discredit and silence protests.
You're right about this. Hyperbolic attacks on your enemy is a tried and true method and social media makes it very easy. The rest of the things you bring up can be explained away, though.

And now we learn that the military is “vetting” the troops. Translate that as investigating their personal lives, including online profiles and posts on social media, and purging from the military any of the troops (probably at least half of them) who might be suspected of supporting Trump. The result? An army identified by Big Tech using Big Data with only troops cleared as being sympathetic to the Deep State. Welcome to our Dystopia. Collectivism controlled by Big Social Media.

A coup stopped would be closer.

The rest of the things you bring up can be explained away

Amazing just how different one’s world looks from the other side of the street.

The public is not excluded from the inauguration. They just cannot be there in person due to the pandemic.
I respond to another attempt at humor only because Lausten chides me for not responding.

The 25,000 troops there should be able to “prevent the spread”, although I question the need for assault weapons to enforce mask wearing and social distancing.

I respond to another attempt at humor only because Lausten chides me for not responding. -- Bob
Well. You're trying. You get a gold star on your post for that. The word I like to use is "engaging". That means, considering the words of others and attempting to understand them, then responding.

(I will edit this post a couple more times in “response” to more of your statements.

I question the need for assault weapons... --- Bob
The irony of that one is dripping.
Amazing just how different one’s world looks from the other side of the street. -- Bob
Your list was "amazing" (Voting irregularities. Investigations not allowed. A rush to discredit and silence protests. Prosecution of the opposition. The military seizing control of the Capitol. The public excluded from the inauguration.) It's the view of protests that civil rights activists have had for a long time. The difference is, your view has almost no evidence behind it. Investigations are ongoing by all branches of justice. The only "silencing" was getting them out of the Capitol, which they entered illegally. The military has always had control of the Capitol, the problem was there weren't enough of them on January 6th. I'm just skimming the surface here.
Translate that as investigating their personal lives -- Bob
Have you ever known someone in the military? They don't let you poop without saluting and getting permission. We give them a gun and authority to shoot citizens, it's not a WalMart greeter job. Reports of fanatics in the military have been around for a long time, this vetting is long overdue.
Amazing just how different one’s world looks from the other side of the street.
Guess it all depends on what kind of mind you have and who's been brainwashing you!

By David Leonhardt Good morning. News accounts of the Capitol attack — many based on videos taken by rioters — are offering new details.

January 9. 2021 - New York Times

‘Drag them out!’
It’s hard to think of another crime that the perpetrators documented so thoroughly and publicly.

The people who participated in the Capitol attack on Jan. 6 posted thousands of videos of it to Parler, a social network. Journalists and other witnesses have released dozens of their own videos, too. Over the past several days, news organizations have been studying these videos and have begun releasing more details about what happened.

This reconstruction work is important, because the attack was a signature moment in U.S. history: A mob, incited by the president of the United States, stormed the halls of Congress in an effort to prevent it from certifying the president’s electoral defeat. During the attack, the mob killed a police officer and went looking for members of Congress.

Below, my colleagues and I have summarized the key points from the latest news accounts, and we’ve provided links for people who want to go deeper:

The mob came very close to lawmakers. At several points, rioters were within feet of members of Congress, separated by only a small group of police officers, a multimedia article in The Washington Post shows. Some rioters passed within 100 feet of Vice President Mike Pence, who was hiding with his family in an office near the Senate chamber.

Many of the attackers openly discussed committing violence, and lawmakers feared for their lives. “Drag them out!” one man yelled inside the Capitol, referring to lawmakers; another group chanted “Hang Mike Pence!” As the mob closed in, members of Congress hiding inside the House chamber called loved ones and told one another to remove their lapel pins so rioters could not identify them.

Rioters abused the police. One man, carrying an American flag, profanely yelled at a line of Washington police officers that his 5-year-old son was more of a man than they were. Others beat, knocked over and pushed past officers, and threatened to kill one with his own gun.

Police officers inside the Capitol were often outnumbered and chose not to use force. In the Post video, Officer Eugene Goodman, facing down a large group by himself, lured the mob to chase after him — away from the Senate chamber.

Later, after senators had evacuated, a lone officer politely pleaded with rioters to leave the chamber. “Any chance I could get you guys to leave the Senate wing?” the officer asks in video captured by The New Yorker’s Luke Mogelson. “Just want to let you guys know this is, like, the sacredest place.”

Only after the arrival of more backup, some from the D.C. National Guard, did officers end the riot.

Some rioters may have been collecting information. The New Yorker video shows a group of men rifling through Senate desks and snapping photos. One says he is looking for something to “use against these scumbags.”

The F.B.I. is also investigating whether a Pennsylvania woman stole computer equipment from Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office and intended to sell it to Russian agents. The woman turned herself in to the police yesterday.

The mob felt empowered by Republican leaders. As rioters pushed their way down a hallway, one shouted at a police officer, “We are listening to your boss: Trump.” And as a few men looked through documents on the Senate floor, one, referring to Senator Ted Cruz, said: “I think Cruz would want us to do this, so I think we’re good.”

Multiple military members, active and retired, were part of the mob. The F.B.I. is investigating the role of the Oath Keepers, an anti-government militia made up largely of former law enforcement and military veterans. (In response, the Pentagon says it will intensify internal efforts to combat far-right extremism.)

Another rioter was Klete Keller, a gold-medal-winning swimmer. One of Keller’s former Olympic teammates described him as an “aimless, rudderless, 30-something man who … became a perfect candidate to fall into a radical, conservative rabbit hole of conspiracy theorists and rioters involved in insurrection,” according to The Post. Since the riot, Keller told a former coach that he “didn’t mean for any of this to happen,” The Times reported.
So far, at least 70 people have been arrested and charged with participating in the attack. The authorities say they are still seeking information, as this F.B.I. poster with suspects’ photos shows.

For more:
The Times put together maps, images and videos from the day to show how President Trump’s rally gave way to violence.
ProPublica collected more than 500 videos, offering a view of what the attack looked like from inside the mob.

Brainwashed, Alt-Right Mark De Gregorio Jan. 21, 2019

https://www.hcn.org/issues/51.1/letter-to-the-editor-brainwashed-alt-right

I had to read “Welcome to the Alt-American West” (HCN, 12/24/18) a couple of times for it to really sink in. A better title would have been the “Alt-Right West,” because that is mostly where the altered reality lies. What Editor-in-Chief Brian Calvert describes jibes with what I saw in a video years ago by a professor at the University of Northern Colorado. He was researching why, in the face of scientific data and consensus, people deny climate change.

In one scene, he was interviewing a man on the street, a very stereotypical old, fat jowly white guy.

As the interviewer recited his facts and figures, in sudden exasperation, the big guy blurted out, “Look, I know it’s true. I just don’t believe it.”

When I read Newt Gingrich’s explanation of essentially the same thing, the conclusion I draw is that there isn’t much difference between a person’s deliberately altered beliefs despite facts, and being brainwashed.

That about sums it up. Check your brain at door, but wear that gun.

ADL's "The Alt Right"

Alt Right: A Primer on the New White Supremacy

https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounders/alt-right-a-primer-on-the-new-white-supremacy

Alt right, short for “alternative right,” is a repackaging of white supremacy by extremists seeking to mainstream their ideology.
The term emerged in 2010 and started to gain widespread traction in 2016.
People who identify with the alt right regard mainstream or traditional conservatives as weak and impotent, largely because they do not adequately support white racial interests, or are not adequately racist or antisemitic.
Some alt right adherents prefer other labels, such as the “New Right” and the “Dissident Right.”
The alt right label explicitly avoids racial or racist language, and instead brings to mind rebellion or anti-establishment thinking – concepts that help attract young, new followers.

Origins of the term

White supremacist Richard Spencer, who is President and Creative Director at the National Policy Institute, a tiny white supremacist organization, coined the term “alternative right” in August 2008 in an article in Taki’s Magazine, a far-right publication.

At the time, Spencer was using “alternative right” to refer to people on the right who distinguished themselves from traditional conservatives by opposing, among other things, egalitarianism, multiculturalism and open immigration. That same year, Paul Gottfried, a Jewish paleo-conservative, employed the term “alternative right” when he gave a speech entitled, “The Decline and Rise of the Alternative Right,” at the H.L. Mencken Club’s Annual Meeting in November 2008. For this reason, some sources credit Gottfried with originating the term.

Spencer further popularized the term when he chose ”Alternative Right” as the name for an online publication that debuted in 2010. Spencer shut the website down in 2013, but it was soon re-launched by Colin Liddell and Andy Nowicki, former writers for Alternative Right. Spencer went on to found another journal, Radix. Both Alternative Right (rebranded as Affirmative Right) and Radix are forums for racists, antisemites and others who identify with the alt right.

What is the ideology of the alt right?

Alt right adherents identify with a range of different ideologies, all of which center on white identity. Many claim to be Identitarians, a term that originated in France with the founding of the Bloc Identitaire movement and its youth counterpart, Generation Identitaire. Identitarians espouse racism and intolerance under the guise of preserving the ethnic and cultural origins of their respective counties. American Identitarians, including Richard Spencer, claim to want to preserve European-American (i.e., white) culture in the U.S.

As Michael McGregor, a writer and editor for Radix, wrote in February 2015, Identitarians want “the preservation of our identity–the cultural and genetic heritage that makes us who we are.” Identitarians reject multiculturalism or pluralism in any form.

Others in the alt right identify as so-called radical traditionalists, people who want to preserve what they claim are traditional Christian values but from a uniquely white supremacist perspective. Some in the alt right identify as white nationalists who want to preserve the white majority in the U.S., claiming that whites losing their majority status is equivalent to “white genocide.” They issue mendacious propaganda on subjects like immigration and “black crime” as “evidence” of whites’ imperiled status.

Another segment of the alt right refers to themselves as neo-reactionaries (those who reject liberal democracy and ideas associated with the Enlightenment. Some neo-reactionaries refer to their theories as the “Dark Enlightenment.”) Others call themselves “race realists” or alternately “HBD” advocates, a reference to human biodiversity (a belief that one’s race governs traits such as behavior and intelligence—with non-whites being inferior to whites). However they define themselves, alt righters reject egalitarianism, democracy, universalism and multiculturalism.

Many alt righters are also blatantly antisemitic and blame Jews for allegedly promoting anti-white policies such as immigration and diversity.

In 2015, alt righters began disparaging members of the conservative movement with the derogatory term “cuckservative,” a combination of “conservative” and “cuckold,” that is used by white supremacists to describe a white conservative who putatively promotes the interests of Jews and non-whites over those of whites. The alt right also refers disparagingly to the mainstream conservative movement as Conservatism, Inc. or Conservative, Inc., in an effort to highlight its associations with wealthy donors (whom the white supremacists dismiss as pro-immigration globalists whose policies undermine white nationalism in America).

Just say’n. Cause patriots are supposed to speak up.

As the interviewer recited his facts and figures, in sudden exasperation, the big guy blurted out, “Look, I know it’s true. I just don’t believe it.”
What I don't get CC is that you seem to talk about this guy like he choose to be that way. Like he has the same definition of "true" that you do, has some sense of the scientific method, but something else is operating that makes him believe what he does. My first reaction is that he has an earwig eating his brain, but we can look in there and see he doesn't, so that's not it. But whatever it is, he's not going to figure it out, but we might.

Do you talk with messed up teens ever? You wouldn’t write them off and assume there’s just some genetic defect that can’t be fixed. At least I hope you wouldn’t.

True enough but the military always checks out the background of recruits as much as possible. I enlisted in 2001 and it was the same, except the internet was fairly new and social media didn't exist. And the military can monitor the "digital footprint" of active duty members.

However, over the past few years the military does seem to be putting a lot of effort into locating people who have any suspected ties to dissident Right thought – which is a big blanket term that could include a hell of a lot of people. At the same time hispanic and black gangbangers are tolerated as long as they stay under the radar. I feel bad for the guys in right now. With Biden in office another pointless war is very possible.

With Biden in office another pointless war is very possible. -- one
When did Democrats become the party of war? Defense bills are the most easily passed, bipartisan bills we have now. Kennedy claimed he was trying to clean up the mess from previous Presidents, I don't really believe that, but Nixon was Vietnam, Reagan put us in debt with military buildup, Bush (both of them) was Iraq, Clinton was more into drones than troops, Afghanistan was bipartisan when it was a secret war but 9/11 allowed Bush to turn that into a hell hole. Syria was a difficult situation, too difficult for me to defend Obama. I could look more at who negotiated treaties and who made more speeches about peace. I just can't find this theme that Democrats are more likely to get us into pointless wars.

Trump tried to skew numbers in his favor with troop withdrawals. In Syria, he pretty much followed the Obama plan that was already in place. In some cases, he may have saved a few America lives, but he put other people, our allies, in grave danger. So, plain troop numbers aren’t a good indicator.

However, over the past few years the military does seem to be putting a lot of effort into locating people who have any suspected ties to dissident Right thought
Well dissident right wing extremism was an increasingly clear and present violent threat to our civil peace.

What they did at the capital a couple weeks underscores how correct those concerns were! Rabid dogs that can’t think past vandalism.

It’s exactly what’s to be expected from a country of law and order! Oh are they going to be howling the injustice. Playing the drama queen victim is what they do best - everything is always someone else’s fault.

… ‘why all we wanted to do was lynch our perceived enemies and nullify a fair and free American election. Can’t ya take a joke.’

Nope, and we sure shouldn’t take any more of that sort of ‘joking,’ any longer.

The time has come to accept some responsibility, learn from mistakes, improve one’s attitude, and so on.

Over the next few years we’ll find out how many gullible “innocents” were brainwashed, verse how many are genuinely off the rails seditionists.

The past couple weeks actually give me hope there are less off the rails extremist, and more of the lost sheople, who have simply been fooled by tRumps malicious manipulation. Being betrayed by someone you believed in and loved, that’s deepest cut. Over the next years millions are going to find out they were taken for bad ride, played for the suckers that they are.

Never every trust a fast talker who offers you all the candy you want. It will never work out in your favor.

Lausten, next you can explain to him, how it’s the democrats that have also had to straighten out the country’s financial messes, the one Republicans have straddled our country with.

Not sure what the topic is on this thread anymore, but I saw this 8 minute read in the Atlantic today. It talks about many times in history when countries have been on the brink of civil war. What a surprise, it doesn’t recommend trying to kill everyone on one side or just call them stupid and stop listening to them.
