My understanding is that Ukraine was Russia’s biggest trading partner and Russia was Ukraine’s biggest trading partner before Hillary decided Ukraine should be controlled by the US.
Russia and Ukraine had many ties including manufacturing, heritage that goes back more than a thousand years, military, economic ties.
After the Soviet breakup they were both experiencing hard economic times. I’m not saying they didn’t have their differences. And I think it was a big mistake to leave the Donbass with Ukraine. But I do believe if Ukraine needed help, Russia would have helped them.
