The war of China ? what are the triggers, what are the potential threats?

Okay. You are just talking to talk now. Whatever

Well, for once, i more or less agree in part with michaelcrawford.

Treaties are made to be respected and can be renegotiated, but as long as they exist, they must be respected.

One cannot reproach China not to respect the treaty about Hong-Kong and say that the international treaties about China are scraps of papers.

Hitler said that treaties are scraps of papers.

Now,

  1. Yes treaties say that Taïwan is part of China

  2. Chinese government and Taiwanese government agree about that,

  3. That does not give continental China the right to invade Taïwan and take it by strength !

  4. USA have a treaty with Taïwan and they have a right to act if continental China invades it.

  5. china is a totalitarian state, and Taiwaneses would be much more prone to accept unification if it was a democratic one.

  6. China is a super power with imperialistic aims and worries every other country, even if some prefer to pactise with it.

I don’t think we want a world where leaders are still acting like the 1945 superpowers. We effectively have renegotiated.

Just read on " Guerre et Histoire " August 2022, an interview of Mme Valérie Niquet, a French specialist of Asia.

She give some details about Taïwan history.

The native population was not Chinese but Australasian, meaning Oceanian.

The Chinese began to come in the 14th century, and mainly in the XVII th, imported by the Dutch to work in the plantations.

The Chinese empire control nominally Taïwan but not integrate it before 1885.

the Japan takes the island in 1895 and occupy it. I can say, not easily ( [History of Taiwan - Wikipedia] ).

The local populations were integrated and in 1945, 75 % of the population spoke Japanese. the development was a fact.

“Taiwan was considered the second-most developed region of East Asia (after Japan). By 1905, Taiwan was financially self-sufficient and had been weaned off of subsidies from Japan’s central government.” From Wikipedia.

In 1945 Taïwan population was 6 millions, and 2 millions of nationalists came to occupy the island, aiming to conquer continental China. They repressed the Taiwanese, seen as Japanese traitors, with 20 000 victims.

The Kuomintang pursued a policy of sinisation.

But Taiwan was more and more westernized, with democracy, gay rights and so .

The gap between China and Taiwan is wider and wider.

In fact, Taiwan shows that democracy and human rights can work with a Chinese population. And the Chinese totalitarian system cannot accept this idea.

A second US congressional delegation visits Taiwan | CNN Politics

A US congressional delegation led by Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Ed Markey has arrived in Taipei on an unannounced two-day visit, the second US congressional delegation to Taiwan this month.

morgankane01 Taiwan has always seemed like some curious side show, so thanks for those snap shots of history, the progression makes sense.

Speaking of side shows, about to become the center of attention,

China reports ‘most severe’ heatwave and third driest summer on record

Average temperature in August was 1.2C higher than norm, which caused widespread drought

China recorded its highest temperatures and one of its lowest levels of rainfall in 61 years during a two-month summer heatwave that caused forest fires, damaged crops and hit power supplies, the national meteorological agency said.

The average national temperature in August, 22.4C, was 1.2C higher than the seasonal norm, while average rainfall fell 23% to 82mm, the third lowest since records began in 1961, according to Xiao Chan, the vice-director of China’s national meteorological administration.

He told reporters that 267 weather stations across China recorded their highest temperatures in history last month.

While governments and global businesses are run of egomaniacal sociopaths who show themselves to be utterly oblivious to what actually matters to future human society and happiness and our biosphere’s future survival.

Biden has blown the US 50 + year one china policy to smithereens with his hawkish statement about defending Taiwan. Always was a warmonger.

And China has been a trusted and benign neighbor of Taiwan?

What Is the U.S. “One China” Policy, and Why Does it Matter?

January 13, 2017

To this day, the U.S. “one China” position stands: the United States recognizes the PRC as the sole legal government of China but only acknowledges the Chinese position that Taiwan is part of China. Thus, the United States maintains formal relations with the PRC and has unofficial relations with Taiwan. The “one China” policy has subsequently been reaffirmed by every new incoming U.S. administration.

The existence of this understanding has enabled the preservation of stability in the Taiwan Strait, allowing both Taiwan and mainland China to pursue their extraordinary political and socioeconomic transitions in relative peace.

Keep pumping in those US weapons and find out!! The old US playbook in resolving threats to US hegemony

Are you afraid of the US? Exactly what threat does the US pose to anyone?
Are we invading countries?

Keep sending the weapons in and lets see what happens. A winning strategy for peace. Yay America!!!

America is not trying to win anything. It is China that wants to win in Taiwan and install its communist regime. The Taiwanese are objecting to that.

But any Taiwanese that wants to leave for China is perfectly free to do so.

Nah america has no interests its just a benign actor standing on the sidelines of world events. Anyone who believes that - i have a bridge to sell you. :joy:

You see how skewed your perspective has become. America wants to play a vigorous role in world affairs. It wants to have open and fair trade with any country that has something to sell and in turn needs something the US sells.

The US doesn’t want to conquer lands or people, it wants to be an active and trusted participant in all world affairs and economic development.

It is Russia what is invading countries and blackmailing Europe in energy sales.

IT IS RUSSIA THAT IS NOT A BENIGN ACTOR STANDING ON THE SIDELINES OF WORLD EVENTS!

Why do you keep trying to justify Russia’s intolerable commission of “crimes against humanity”?
Ukraine is not killing Russian civilians. It is Russia that is killing Ukrainian civilians.

And who is standing on the sidelines? Would you want the US to join this war?
It would be over in a week and Russia would be utterly defeated.
Why do you think Putin is threatening nuclear war. Because he knows he would not stand a chance against US convential military might.
