Political Optics

When asked their reasoning, 20% of Americans say Biden, 80, is “incompetent,” 12% say he is “too old,” 10% say he is “corrupt,” 9% say he is “doing a bad job,” and 3% say he is “dangerous.”

Biden scores even worse amongst the polling of youths

On what factual information is are those poor ratings of Biden based?
Or is that a result of the Republican slander campaign that is being waged against all prominent Democrats .

The facts show that Biden has done an excellent job, no bluster, just sober assessment and rapid response to crises, both foreign and domestic.

Look at the stats;
Here are 23 of Joe Biden’s greatest accomplishments as president of the United States.

  1. Passed the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package to increase investment in the national network of bridges and roads, airports, public transport and national broadband internet, as well as waterways and energy systems.

  2. Helped get more than 500 million life-saving COVID-19 vaccinations in the arms of Americans through the American Rescue Plan.

  3. Stopped a 30-year streak of federal inaction on gun violence by signing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that created enhanced background checks, closed the “boyfriend” loophole and provided funds for youth mental health.

  4. Made a $369 billion investment in climate change, the largest in American history, through the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

  5. Ended the longest war in American history by pulling the troops out of Afghanistan.

  6. Provided $10,000 to $20,000 in college debt relief to Americans with loans who make under $125,000 a year.

  7. Cut child poverty in half through the American Rescue Plan.

  8. Capped prescription drug prices at $2,000 per year for seniors on Medicare through the Inflation Reduction Act.

  9. Passed the COVID-19 relief deal that provided payments of up to $1,400 to many struggling U.S. citizens while supporting renters and increasing unemployment benefits.

  10. Achieved historically low unemployment rates after the pandemic caused them to skyrocket.

  11. Imposed a 15% minimum corporate tax on some of the largest corporations in the country, ensuring that they pay their fair share, as part of the historic Inflation Reduction Act.

  12. Recommitted America to the global fight against climate change by rejoining the Paris Agreement.

  13. Strengthened the NATO alliance in support of Ukraine after the Russian invasion by endorsing the inclusion of world military powers Sweden and Finland.

  14. Authorized the assassination of the Al Qaeda terrorist Ayman al-Zawahiri, who became head of the organization after the death of Osama bin Laden.

  15. Gave Medicare the power to negotiate prescription drug prices through the Inflation Reduction Act while also reducing government health spending.

  16. Held Vladimir Putin accountable for his invasion of Ukraine by imposing stiff economic sanctions.

  17. Boosted the budget of the Internal Revenue Service by nearly $80 billion to reduce tax evasion and increase revenue.

  18. Created more jobs in one year (6.6 million) than any other president in U.S. history.

  19. Reduced healthcare premiums under the Affordable Care Act by $800 a year as part of the American Rescue Plan.

  20. Signed the PACT Act to address service members’ exposure to burn pits and other toxins.

  21. Signed the CHIPS and Science Act to strengthen American manufacturing and innovation.

  22. Reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act through 2027.

  23. Halted all federal executions after the previous administration reinstated them after a 17-year freeze.

Why shouldn’t young people be dissatisfied and ready to move on?
It would be pretty weird if they were in love with an 80 year, but you know what they say:
have an open mind, but don’t let it fall out. Meaning, when Election Day comes hopefully they’ll be pragmatic rather than suicidally idealistic.

And as Write has pointed out, Biden actually has done an amazing job, considering all the Republican backstabbing he’s subjected to. It’ pretty plain to see for anyone with a modicum of objectivity and fair-play about 'em.

No doubt, it is time for a genuinely new generation within the Democratic Party, one more aware and than the current one .

Still. Love 'em, hate 'em, frustrating as heck, the Democratic Party is the only team we have. Alternatives are a kin to rolling over and letting the man have his way with ya.

For political success people need to work from within the Democratic Party, help get out the old guard, replace with the young and work on fixing things, not backstabbing. Republican only seems to have bully with no respect for the laws of this land, with a ruthless sense of entitlement - all they have to offer is more vandalism, pain and suffer. The party of self-destruction.

Tearing down our institutions is only going to result in increasing lawless chaos. We have real problems steamrolling at us. We need a coherent government. We need sober fact based thinking and representatives with a responsible socially conscience, not self-serving MAGA flim-flam men/women.

I still think this would be an awesome tool for the Democratic Party.

Dear Democratic Party (callers) . . .

In response to the flood of Democratic Party donation pitches I receive and since I don’t have money for all of them, I want to tell what I do have to offer. Need a dynamic researcher, drop me a line. Here’s an introduction along with some relevant links.

Democrats need more than cash! The DNC need to better inform and engage their grassroots base, that means using every resource available, and that should include starting a Online Democratic Party Discussion Forum where people can share their ideas and network, educate, nurture enthusiasm, engage your base. If we aren’t changing minds we are losing.

We’ll we see

The deep state, for the most part it’s a misused manufactured cliche.

BY CHARLES S. CLARK

… But to many with years in government, the term “deep state” is disturbing. “Deep state is both inaccurate and grossly misleading,” said Nancy McEldowney, who retired in June as director of the Arlington, Va.-based Foreign Service Institute. “The term originated in the context of analyzing the situations in Turkey and Egypt, where I served, usually to talk about propaganda, dirty tricks, and even violence to overthrow the government,” she said.

“To refer to career civil servants in the U.S. government as some form of deep state is a clear attempt to delegitimize voices of disagreement," she added. “Even worse, it carries with it the potential for fear-baiting and rumor-mongering, and is really a dark conspiratorial term that does not correspond to reality.” …

Another interesting take,

In what way does the "deep state Not allow for options?

And what options are not allowed by the deep state? You do not get to vote anymore?

And who is making voting more difficult?

What deep state is passing laws making a necessary abortion a crime, encouraging neighbors to spy on each other?

What deep state is passing laws to freely carry weapons of war on the streets causing a rise in crime and death, especially of children.

Who is this deep state everyone whispers about? Is it the Boogie man coming to get you?

Do you know how many deep states exist in a country of 300 million people representing half the nationalities in the world, all hoping a working toward a better, kinder, more civilized future.

Do you understand the wisdom of the writers of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, for writing such a liberal document in spite of the prevailing legal system in those days.

No deep state, just capitalism.

Capitalism has its logic, market and profit, capitalism and market are destroying every thing, taking everything in its logic.

Remember that 30 years ago, when you wanted to meet someone, you called family, friends, went to a club. Nowadays, you go on the net and you become a marketable ware.

And capitalism is destroying us and the market.

To fantasize about a " deep state " and plots is a way to hide this fact.

Capitalists don’t need to plot, they meet at high level, at Davos or at more hidden places, and share strategies.

In the 70th, petrol majors studies predicted the climate change, they hid them and paid people to negate it. Governments had the same results and choose to hide the facts and do nothing, to not loose a competitive advantage and worry the voters. That’s not deep state, it is the logic of profit.

Curiously, advocates of the idea of a deep state are mostly " conservative" to be polite.

I was hesitating to begin a new thread, moderators can do it with this post.

But i think that it is relevant to the topic.

Yes it is all about capitalism with the deep state - the political, military and big business establishment making sure to maintain the game of opportunities is rigged in their favour and any threat to this apple cart is placed under surveillance and neutralised when required to save capitalism .

What do you fear most?”
"I fear that love is not enough "

This is basically true. I just don’t believe in any secret groups or people inside the government working against us. It’s all done quite openly. Our votes matter, but it’s a slow process to create change. Some people, OTH, can just write big checks.

Openly in isolated places away from the general public

So, just curious, how do you know about it?

How do you know what was said, discussed and agreed?

I read official statements, multiple news reports, and historical context. There are of course actually secret meetings that I don’t know about, so I watch their actions, and try to figure it out.

Inserting some levity. Don’t take it personal. A high school friend just posted it.

You worked out what was said in secret meetings? Well done and good job.

I said I try. I’m not going to explain words to you. How about some quid pro quo? How do you know how the deep state works?

Denial, they say, is a sort of first step…

Incidentally, a story like this is the perfect candidate to practice media accountability on. Perhaps I’ll get to it. The quantity of limited hangouts on this story is going to be profound. This is merely one in a chain. As to the source of the reform movement: I would think that it has happened from within. Still, the stain in the carpet isn’t going to go away. In fact, the amount of crap that there is to account for is of a monumental nature. As we go along through the chain of compromised sources, who will be next…
No doubt your favorite ‘intellectual’ source is going down.

And how do you know what was said in those secret meetings, other than any subsequent behaviors?

Too much handwaving, let’s bring it down to today’s optics of a nation come unhinged.
This seems a proximal problem worth worrying about:

Trump and Allies Forge Plans to Increase Presidential Power in 2025 -

By Jonathan Swan, Charlie Savage and Maggie Haberman

  • Published July 17, 2023

The former president and his backers aim to strengthen the power of the White House and limit the independence of federal agencies.

Personal power has always been a driving force for Mr. Trump. He often gestures toward it in a more simplistic manner, such as in 2019, when he declared to a cheering crowd, “I have an Article 2, where I have the right to do whatever I want as president.”

Trump’s 2025 vision, revealed

Former President Trump’s second-term governing plans are coming into clearer focus, as he lays out a vision for a dramatic expansion of federal power — particularly the presidency.

Why it matters: In public statements, videos and posts on his campaign’s website, Trump complains about Washington’s “swamp” — but lays out a plan that would give him, as president, more control of virtually every facet of life in America.

Zoom in: Trump’s plans go well beyond the provocative promises he made during his recent CNN town hall — to pardon nearly all of the convicted Jan. 6 rioters (there have been about 500), and to immediately broker an end the war in Ukraine.

“This women’s team won the World Cup twice. Donald Trump couldn’t win the presidency twice," says Mehdi Hasan. "This team, particularly Rapinoe, can handle loss with dignity and grace—something Donald Trump continues to remain incapable of doing.”

What a MAGA man. Why do people believe this sort of petty, thin skinned tantrum laced baby-man, is the best America should be able offer it’s people and world ?
