America's Lifeguard

Father Joe Biden feeling messianic at his old stomping grounds.

A White shepherd with his Black flock, but there is room for everyone in his America.

Good thing a lot of us know how to swim.

What are you talking about with this photoshop pic with a spew of BS? BTW, not everyone in the photoshop pic is Black. One more thing, as a mod, I must inform you, you are treading water already with what you just posted, so chose your words very carefully.

Yes, yes, you hate all people who look different than you, but somehow Biden is the one with the god complex.

Bob, I suppose you prefer this,

Now I am no Biden fan by any stretch, (though he definitely got my vote), still . . . there is this about the guy.

Joe Biden’s humanity could be his edge in 2020,

OPINION | DIANE HESSAN | August 9, 2018

Half the group had no idea who Brown, Landrieu, Booker, and Bullock are. Only three candidates were known to all: Biden, Warren, and Sanders. And the favorite, far ahead of the rest, and palatable even to many Republicans: Joe Biden.

Some voters talked about Facebook posts about him, while others had read his recent book, “Promise Me, Dad.” Some talked about his ability to connect with working-class voters, while others talked about his foreign policy experience. Sharleen, an African-American from Virginia, admitted that despite her commitment to getting women and people of color elected, she would be “down for Biden,” and Chas, a white coal miner from Kentucky, said that he trusts that Biden supports the troops in a profound way because of the tragic loss of his son Beau. …

Many Republicans — including many Trump voters — said they could live with Biden. Said Carly from New Hampshire, “If Biden were running, I would watch the debates very carefully and give him a fair shake.” She explained that he is he is pro-military, pro-ICE, and pro-police, and that she doesn’t believe he is corrupt. Added Jesse from Texas, “If I woke up tomorrow and Biden was president, I’d be thankful it was him and none of the others on the list.” Many Republicans admitted that they would have voted for Biden in 2016 if he were the nominee. …

How Donald Trump's Brother Fred Jr. Shaped His Views on Addiction

BY CAROLINE HALLEMANN
JUL 7, 2020

… Donald Trump’s feelings about his brother had other consequences for the family as well. In 2000, shortly after Fred Trump Sr. died, Fred Jr.'s son contested the will in Queen’s court. (Fred Trump’s Sr.'s estate, which was valued at somewhere between $100 million and $300 million, had been divided between the living siblings, leaving considerably less to Fred III and his family.)

Donald Trump retaliated by cutting off medical benefits for Fred III’s critically ill infant son.

It was a bitter fight, and like so many Trump family battles, one waged publicly in the tabloids. …

But Bob can’t understand why some feel this donny trump guy is a scum bag by any definition.

You know, I was not a Biden fan either. He was my absolute last choice to win the nomination. When he speaks stupid combinations of sounds have a tendency to come out of his mouth. BUT, when he sticks to policy it’s like listening to a choir of angels.

I campaigned for him and President Obama twice, so yes, I supported Biden and voted for Biden. I don’t think as some people, who are one post closer to banning- @thatoneguy. Everyone else is fine in this thread, keep calm.

You know, at the end of the second term for the last two Democrat presidents I heard the same rumor, that the president was going to declare martial law to delay the election and remain president forever. Forget that that isn’t even a thing a president can do. Forget that his term ends January 20 whether we voted or not. Forget that the vote is constitutionally mandated, so that’s just a stupid, stupid claim. This president, a REPUBLICAN president, actually suggested doing it. Biden is the greatest president-elect in all of history.

I think Trump was the inevitable backlash for electing the first black president. If you look through our history you will find backlash from the right every time the country becomes more progressive. After the Civil Rights Act of 1964 America got hundreds of new Confederate monuments. After prayer and Bible reading were removed from schools America got creationism in schools. After creationism was banned America got Intelligent Design and “right to teach” laws. After Obamacare’s contraceptive inclusion America got religious freedom laws. After gay rights became the law of the land America got more religious freedom laws. And after we elected our first black president, who turned out to be massively popular, winning the popular vote AND the election both times, America got the Tea Party (which was TOTALLY not racist, but still mysteriously went away when the black guy did). He was smart and well read, smooth and selfless, handsome, strong and in fantastic shape. And, of course, black. So inevitably the opposite of all those things came next. We got a fat orange blob with the intellect of a 10 year old, the emotional maturity of a toddler, concerned only for himself, a thief, a ratings whore, a TERRIBLE dresser (Pee Wee Herman called. He wants his ridiculous ties back!), a pompous, bloated asshat of an excuse for a man who was white and DID NOT speak about equality. Like so many terrible, dark things before him, Trump was the afterbirth of progress, just now being tossed out with the medical waste.

That doesn’t mean the backlash is done yet. We just elected the SECOND person of color to the White House. The backlash can sometimes last decades and take decades more to undo. And we are JUST NOW STARTING to get rid of SOME of the backlash from 1964, more than half a century later. And Trump was the perfect storm as a Republican. Those still fighting against civil rights could get behind him, those still wanting to force their archaic religious rules as law could get behind him, those fighting against gay rights could get behind him… He embodied all the backlashes people still can’t let go of in one, fat, greasy package. Because the “elected a black man” backlash rekindled the “gave black people (and women) rights” backlash. We have to be ever vigilant and VOTE EVERY TIME! As do our children and our grandchildren and great grandchildren to ensure America NEVER slips back to that “golden era” of the 1950s that Republicans keep daydreaming over, where black people knew their place, people who didn’t hold your religious beliefs didn’t need rights and women were property . That is LITERALLY what the 1950s were like and voting each election is LITERALLY fighting to stop that from coming about again.

Widders,

Nice history lesson. I hope I’ve learned something from the Trump experience. I’m afraid a lot of people have not though. My biggest fear is voters. I doubt we will see 74 million Democratic votes 2 years from now. America has always rested on its laurels as soon as it makes progress. The bigger lesson though, and I think even The Tolerance Museum missed this one, is, populism is predictable. I can see it happening now. I can see how all the Republican congress people not praising Trump, but they aren’t telling him to shut up either. By keeping quiet on immigration policy and on this show that’s going on right now about voting, they are waving a big flag that says, “come to Washington you crazy populist leader who doesn’t know jack about government but somehow brings the votes. we don’t care what you do, we won’t impeach you, we won’t sanction you, we won’t veto anything. just keep bringing the votes.”

It is rather scary and, I think, telling that Trump got the second most votes ever for a presidential candidate in a year with a huge push by Democrats to get out the vote. If Democrats get lazy, EVER, it’s their own fault when the American SS (the ASS?) kick in their doors to search for diversity training materials 30 years from now.

A BIG reason for that is that Democrats react while Republicans plan. This culture is literal decades in the making. They have cultivated “socialist” and “liberal” as dirty words to the average American, but that wasn’t until AFTER the gently modified the curriculum in all the schools. My kids learned from ME that America dropped two nuclear bombs on two civilian populations after we had effectively already won WWII. They didn’t learn that in schools. The schools teach “American exceptionalism” which the right frames as “patriotism”. Once you teach the kids that America is the greatest ever and never does anything wrong it’s much, much easier to paint your political enemies, who don’t use that rhetoric, as evil America haters. I would not be at all surprised if there really was a secret cabal of conservative assholes setting tiny little policies in motion for decades, patiently waiting for them all to mesh, slowly normalizing abhorrent behavior so nobody notices or cares when they eventually take over.

That why a little intellectual confrontation is called for.

Make them face their own conflicts and confusion.

Challenge with a more constructive way of approaching problems, and face it from here on it, that’s what life on Earth is going to be about.

We were warned fairly well ahead of time, but too few heeded.

Unless we are changing minds, we are losing.

peace.

Why are you telling your kids nonsense?
The schools teach “American exceptionalism” which the right frames as “patriotism”. Once you teach the kids that America is the greatest ever and never does anything wrong it’s much, much easier to paint your political enemies, who don’t use that rhetoric, as evil America haters. I think that is very unlikely. I graduated from a public school in 2000 and "American exceptionalism" was definitely not being taught back then. History itself was barely covered and it has only gotten worse since then. I doubt you could find any in depth curriculum for public schools anywhere in America.

American exceptionalism is pretty much a boomer cliché today because nobody younger can remember a time when America really was exceptional.

It's not photoshopped.
Yes, yes, you hate all people who look different than you, but somehow Biden is the one with the god complex.
Well, Biden likes public life, not me.

Take a look at the wars America has fought

When I was taught history, and pretty sure this is still how it’s done, the only time we are called “Imperialist” was around the time when we were going into the Phillipines and took Cuba. But Show me when we were not conquering somebody. When were we not gaining power over these countries we fought? There are a few, but not many. And every generation since the boomers has sent young people out to keep it up. To say it’s just old folks saying it is to disrespect the troops. You can’t have it both ways oneguy.

So, you read the story, but you still want to spin it as "messianic". I really don't get you

@thatoneguy I’d say you’re making a big deal out of nothing.

What's so hard to get -- Biden sitting in a lifeguard chair above the crowd with his arms outstretched.

smh you’re really making a big deal out of nothing concerning that picture. That’s as bad about the Obama halo crap.

What’s so hard to get — Biden sitting in a lifeguard chair above the crowd with his arms outstretched.
Bob, you really an A hole, it's your monstrous double standards that guarantee dam t it.

An old man (well okay not just any old man, the president-elect) visiting a place he worked as a young lad. Why shouldn’t he take a seat and share a memory or two with the kids gathered around, who are obviously delighted with his visit.

Biden certainly isn’t the one going around saying he’s the greatest eva, and pretending he’s god’s gift …

But Trump showing actually messianic mental illness, that you just let ride,

He’s not crazy he’s my führer, bob thinks
