It’s amazing what people try to blame Donald Trump for.Sree, you were not missed this week. I don't hear any blaming going on here. Evaluating how well someone is doing their job is not blaming.
The data and numbers as of now are totally skewed to the downside96% of those tested in South Korea (millions?) tested negative. They all will have to be tested again if the virus picks up there.
80% of people infected recover completely in 10 to 14 days. This includes old people people in risk categories.
Get real people, this is not the plague.
Testing should absolutely be free of charge to the individual requesting the testAnd the millions who are hoarding toilet paper are expected not to request a test once a week or every two weeks? Right.
Of course, it is irrational to expect that a resident be tested every day, that is why there are prerequisites like temperature and other symptoms. The entire panic over this is irrational.
Speaking of treatment, the only treatment is basically making the sick person somewhat more comfortable. There are some protocols for those who are extremely sick, but mostly we just have to live through it. Antibiotics may work on bacteria but not on viruses.
I don’t hear any blaming going on here.I caught a bit of the fake news on MSNBC yesterday. They couldn't say three words without stating it was all Trumps fault.
Now then, are they and those here who love to bash Trump at every opportunity going to praise him and the administration when the virus problems and the economic problems it is causing are resolved? If anyone believes they will I have a bridge I can sell you cheap. No, they will continue the political bashing and maintain that the problems were resolved in spite of him. I can hardly wait to be proved right.
Evaluating how well someone is doing their job is not blaming.I have not heard one person who has the expertise required to define what Trump's and the administration's job is in dealing with this virus or evaluate how well that job is being done, except for those with a political agenda. The true evaluation will be when its over. Promoting panic, bashing and name calling are not helpful; all those doing these things can admit its all about the election or look in the mirror at a liar.
Trump at every opportunity going to praise him and the administration when the virus problems and the economic problems it is causing are resolved? -- BobOnly stupid people who evaluate someone’s actions based on results. Results can turn out good by pure luck, like Inspector Clouseau. I don’t need to know how this will turn out to know Trump doing things like cutting budgets on health care teams around the world was a bad decision.
I have not heard one person who has the expertise required to define what Trump’s and the administration’s job is in dealing with this virus or evaluate how well that job is being done,That’s actually your political agenda combined with your inability to evaluate facts.
The entire panic over this is irrational. So, the rational thing to do is to stock up on household items, and maybe some canned soup. People do that, and you call them irrational. Hmm.
this is not the plague.Plagues of the past killed more people because they didn’t understand germs, they didn’t have quarantine protocols, they didn’t have testing. Otherwise, it is exactly the same thing as any plague of the past, we just know how to deal with them now, therefore, there will be far fewer deaths.
Ok, let’s not hurt any T rump kissers feelings by blaming T rump for all of the messed up stuff he does. (Never mind that the more T rump screws up, the more people are likely to die.)
Right now, let’s just focus on the screw up of not getting testing going for the emerging pandemic. Let’s just blame whoever it was that got rid of the CDC Pandemic Task Force in 2018. And let’s blame the guy who cut funding for the CDC in 2017, 2018, & 2019. And let’s blame whoever it is that gets rid of science based career people who work in govt agencies if they are not gushingly loyal to a certain DOTUS. How about we blame that guy who keeps saying we shouldn’t test anyone who is not showing symptoms, and then gets a test for himself when not showing symptoms? How about that guy who LIES to the American public, constantly? Might we blame him?
Whoever this guy is, I don’t care whether my opinion of him is politically biased, my critique of him is based on the reality of what he has screwed up.
So whether I love or despise T rump, he has screwed up big time, either way. AND WE STILL DO NOT HAVE THE TESTING needed to get a better understanding of what this virus is doing. So T rump IS STILL SCREWING UP.
In spite of our pathetic jackass of a DOTUS, there are forces that are struggling to move us in the direction of dealing with the COVID-19. We have a chance, by shutting down everything, to keep the spread rate of the disease down enough that it doesn’t spike above what our national medical capacity can deal with. Thus, it is thought that by keeping the infections from coming too fast, we might be able to deal with them, even if there are ultimately just as many total infections over time.
(It would still be nice to be able to see who does and doesn’t carry the virus. AND you can’t do that without testing asymptomatic people.)
I just saw a stat that suggested that 21% of persons over 80, die if they contract COVID-19.
Hang in there Jimmy Carter! You’ve survived just about everything else.
I have stated from early on that this pandemic is not an existential crisis, that it appears to be a naturally developed mechanism that is suited to cull the old and infirm among us.
We could just let it do it’s work, and maybe it would just kill off a couple of million old and infirm humans. Then we could go on merrily as before it showed up. Although we don’t know that for sure. Also, it might just peter out after a couple of months. Or it might tarry on indefinitely. We don’t know. We don’t even know if having had COVID-19 makes one immune to getting it again.
Since we have the capacity as a nation and a world (when we have suitable leadership) to address pandemics effectively, then I think that would be preferable to just allowing COVID-19 to take our old and sick before they really have to go. But we don’t have effective leadership in our nation and world, these days, so what to do?
I say delay it as much as possible, get the data for how it is spreading, and maybe we can hang in there until some crack team, somewhere, comes up with an antiviral that can help. I am not optimistic about a vaccine, but anti viral, maybe.
@timb Yes, that is true or at least the stat I’ve seen on the CDC and WHO, concerning the elderly. The older the person is, the higher the death rate, because of lower immunity and underlying health issues. This doesn’t mean younger age groups don’t have a stat. If they have underlying health issues that can make their risk of death higher than their peers.
If this is true, maybe it’s time we rethink our relationship with Cuba. We can’t afford to lose thousands of people due to a 50+ years disagreement. Just because we need meds for this virus doesn’t mean we have become “Commies” or allow things to get so bad we have another Bay of Piggies.
My Fox watching brother in law went to Cuba and now thinks it’s the most awesome place ever. He says they are the healthiest people in the world. He bases this on a story of some guy who knows a guy who went there decades ago and got some surgery for his eyes. This surgery was not approved in the US. I looked it up, and found out Cuba does something called “medical tourism”. They offer things like this and draw in people with money from other countries. They spread that around a little, and they do have some kind of socialized medicine, but they aren’t land a miracle cures and free everything for everybody. So, I’m not going to bother investigating this one.
I saw an article, which of course I researched before re-posting, but I can’t figure out what’s going on.
If you google “abortion rider in coronavirus bill”, you’ll get alternating headlines, either “Republicans try to limit abortion” or “Democrats try to sneak in abortion funding”. Anybody know what’s true on this one?
Did I say maybe I was optimistic about an antiviral being found? Yes, I did.
Now green relates that the Cubans may have one that helps.
http://www.ahora.cu/en/health/7653-cuban-drug-among-those-used-to-fight-coronavirus-in-china
It has been used to treat diseases like HIV, recurrent respiratory papillomatosis caused by human papillomavirus, accumulated condyloma, and hepatitis types B and C.
Note that the date on the article is Feb 6. Well over a month ago. Wouldn’t the word have gotten out by now, that it works, if it has helped people in China recover? IDK.
It is a type of Interferon.
Cuba has competent medical personnel. If they have some they’re not using, we may need to hire them, when the peak COVID-19 infection rates hits us in the USA, if our own medical people become overwhelmed.
Actually, if I remember correctly, that drug has been known to cause organ damage.
Head in the sand hands over eyes!!Another troll, just what we need. I'm not snopes. I don't research everything on the internet. Sometimes I can estimate that it's not worth it. Why don't you do it and prove me wrong? Or is your head in the sand?
green, I agree that our not aggressively using the WHO tests from the outset has been a fatal flaw by this administration.
@ibelieveinlogic, For anyone not concerned with the possible death of 2 million old people, then your stance is appealing. We could have just gone on with life as usual. We simply could have just accepted that the virus should run it’s course without attempts to address it. Our medical establishment would thus, soon reach that stage of being overwhelmed. Hundreds of thousands of triage deaths would ensue. But hopefully, after that, most people would have already had the disease, and further deaths would taper off.
But that does not seem to be the course chosen. Since we are now trying to slow down the rate of increasing infections, it would be an easier task if we knew who has, who has had, and who does not have COVID-19 currently. IOW, testing, testing, testing, should have been going on all along.
If you and T rump are freaking out about the cost of testing that could help us see what this virus is doing, maybe you should consider the cost of breaking the world economy. Now we’re talking trillions. I don’t think adequate testing for COVID-19 would have cost trillions, no matter how many extra tests a few people might get.
Not very logical if you ask me.

=============
Good stuff there if you like it fact based.
This is about a group of 1st responders, like EMT’s and FireFighters who established a beat Joe Biden Facebook group, at T rump’s request, last May. They promote the propaganda that Dems and the Chinese are behind the whole COVID-19 brujaha which they depict as a hoax designed to bring down the economy as a way to beat T rump in the 2020 election. Wow. Us Democrats must be diabolically tricky.
It is always disheartening to see how seemingly otherwise normal Americans can have such f’ed up notions.
Speaking as a former paramedic, it’s not a good look but as long as they do their jobs who cares.
I can’t remember where I said something about W. Virginia not having, but now they do. Everyone has it in their neck of the woods now. ![]()
