Wow! I haven’t heard anything from Randi Rhodes for years. I didn’t know she was even still around. But Man! I am in tune with her perspective.
Yes, Randi is back. I’ve yet to be a first time caller long time listener. I’m a long time listener, but never called yet.
Not to scare people but this article confirms what I’ve been thinking. It arrived in my email today: COVID-19 infections in U.S. may be much higher, new estimates show: But even moderate interventions can help reduce spread, according to study -- ScienceDaily
What’s scary is that the juvenile delinquents are in charge, and the experts don’t have a chance.
For gosh sake, it’s not like any of this should be a surprise. But that requires taking it seriously and that good faith thing,
awareness, preparedness, calmly dealing with it. But no, it’s all about power and profits yet again. This is what a complacent electorate allowed to happen. From complacency to panic, ain’t that America, little pink houses for you and me.
This administration is not capable of dealing with this crisis. (I am repeating myself, because the truth deserves at least as much repetition as T rump lies.)
But specifically, beyond the idiocy of not having gotten massive testing going, this administration may be incapable of keeping track of and effectively analyzing the data collected.
Notice that they claim not to know how many people have been tested in the US. They can’t track the most basic information. Recall when the same administration took children from asylum seeking family at the border? They claimed not to have kept track of where all the children were and who all of their family members were.
T rump does not have the most basic understanding of scientific method and analysis. He never will. He is only interested in winning the next election. COVID-19 to him is nothing more than numbers that might make him look bad, or which he might use to create some story about his own greatness.
And I am not panicking. My rants on this subject are products of outrage. I am in the group most likely to be culled by COVID-19, but as such, I am also at an age where I am well aware of my mortality and its tentative hold in this lifetime. I am not afraid of death. But dying due to T rump’s incompetence, would be a particularly ironic and personally offensive way to go.
I agree and I’ve been saying we’re in trouble. I’m not in the age group most affected by it, though I am in my 50s and I quit smoking 6 years ago, got down to 0 nicotine and finally quit vaping about 2 or 3 months ago, so I’m not exactly without underlying health issues per se, but mother is 75 and I could lose her. My husband, even though he’s 48, has high blood pressure and asthma, he could be trouble if he gets it too. My older son is 31 with asthma and my younger son is 28 almost 29, and he’s not without his health issues either. The fact is, it’s not just my family and me in trouble… as a nation, we are in a LOT of trouble. One numbers start exploding in the U.S. there’s no telling who miss getting it, if they are lucky, especially with the incompetence we have in our government currently. I also agree dying due to this administration’s incompetence is an offensive way to go.
I have been implying all along that there could be purposeful negligence going on, due to the benefits of letting old people die off. This theory seems unlikely as most of Trump's base is pretty old and he appears to want to be reelected.
I think that is a decent point. COVID-19 could also diminish FOX News ratings if too many old codgers rode that Wuhan filly into the void.
Yet, letting old people die off would probably be the most likely way of ever cutting entitlements. (e.g., What right winger doesn’t want to cut Social Security, et al.? Letting old people die off quicker is a very direct way of improving the books for continuing the program into the future.)
I don’t know, a lot of Repugs are Boomers, but they are rich greedy white boomers. Now the Dems are white and many are Boomers, but they don’t want to cut Social Security or Medicare.
What is more important – reelection or cutting social security?
I think the health and welfare of a country’s citizens is more important than either of them. However, I think it behooves us to get the incompetence out of office via election. So not re-electing is more important.
Obviously, for T rump, re-election is more important than anything. He has been running for re-election since he 1st took office.
Yes, he’s a very sick man. I don’t even understand why the more sane of us in the U.S. can’t get him removed from office.
A little off topic, but on topic for Corona virus. I posted this on facebook, thought I’d copy it here. If you get that “but what about other ways to die” comment anywhere.
Anyone who knows me knows that world hunger has been something I have worked to end and have tried to understand since I was in college. So, I get a little annoyed when people suddenly say they care about all those dying kids when something like the corona virus gets attention. Here’s the difference:
600+ an hour dying from starvation vs a few thousand dead so far from corona. Sounds like the wrong priority, right? How about the potential? Hunger deaths are decreasing, but very slowly, so it’s still millions per year. Hundreds of thousands could die of the virus. Still seems out of proportion. Unless of course we completely fail to contain it.
The difference is in what we can do. Stopping a virus will require a mobilization of technology and our best people. We can’t guarantee results today, but we have some experience with this, we’ve done it before. Ending hunger as it exists today will require altering our relationship to our planet, our governments, our neighbors and our cherished lifestyles. We’ve never done that. It’s more about political will than know how.
The idea of a nation sending aid to another nation is barely 100 years old. We’ve made some big mistakes with that, like dumping commodities into fragile markets and doing more harm to their agriculture than good. Respecting borders means respecting less than perfect governments and that aid doesn’t always get where it should. Sometimes that imperfect government is our own. What you eat, who you vote for, and where you donate all make a difference. With corona, they’re just trying to get you to wash your hands.
If you want to end world hunger, an Andrew Yang style freedom dividend for the poorest people would fix that right up.
Yes, it is a fact that if you give starving people some money, they will get something to eat.
Now getting testing done for COVID-19 must be MUCH more complicated, since we (the USA! USA! USA!) can’t seem to do it, no matter how many millions of test kits are in the mail. We have tested just 5 out of each million people in our population. That is PATHETIC!!! STILL!!!
Who says this was a mistake? Have you read the confessions of an economic hitman? The idea was not a mistake, it was the implementation. We send food over when we have a surplus, helping our farmers, but we pay no attention to their farmers. They don't have commodity markets, so hitting their economy with free food at the one time of the year they can sell, puts them out of business. They don't have insurance either, or loans, so many of them end up selling their land and going to the city to look for work, which just puts them in the lines for the free food. We create the problem we are solving.
Obviously, for T rump, re-election is more important than anything. He has been running for re-election since he 1st took office.Right. So killing off a high number of potential voters doesn't make sense.
He gets all the great roles.
Also best medical care money can buy. I wish him, them, well.
