I found this story which turned out to be a fairly interesting editorial. It’s an attention-grabbing headline, but it really is a very quick run-down of the relationship between the Catholic Church and the Big 3 Italian Mafia since the Italian unification and stuff in the mid-1800s.
The headline reminded me of Godfather 3.

It's an attention-grabbing headline, but it really is a very quick run-down of the relationship between the Catholic Church and the Big 3 Italian Mafia since the Italian unification and stuff in the mid-1800s. The headline reminded me of Godfather 3. :-)There are a tremendous number of parallels between the Mafia and the Catholic Church. It's as if they were made for each other.
They both are Italian inventions.
I’ve read unscientific reports that the mafia was involved in a lot of drama with the catholic church through out the 20th century, I guess it wouldn’t be totally impossible.
But, the reforms may not mean much to organized crime anyway. “Opus Dei”, or a group like that might be more of a threat in this case.

It doesn't matter much what they call themselves. Lois
Well, so far this Pope Francis is the first one I’ve liked, so I hope he dodges the bullets and has a very sensitive food taster. 8-/
Well, so far this Pope Francis is the first one I've liked, so I hope he dodges the bullets and has a very sensitive food taster. 8-/It's true, he talks a good game. I'm going to wait until he actually makes some changes before I go so far as to champion him. He may be just another politician playing to the masses. If I sound overly cynical, it's because I was raised a Catholic. Lois
As I’ve said before, religions which don’t change to match the changes in society die. I think this pope recognizes that, and in the light of the church’s self-interest he’s in the process of getting rid of the outmoded ideas and going to more modern ones. Notice how so many people are delighted with his proclamations. They don’t weaken the church; rather, they attract more people, especially members who were drifting away.
