(Before T rump even had his turnaround to admitting the reality and severity of the pandemic) I posted that there was a model of 81,000 total death projection that we could have supposedly met. That 81,000 was projected IF we established and maintained full shutdown/social isolation. But the Whitehouse is now saying it will be a success if the total death toll is less than 200,000. Do you see what they’re doing? They are moving the goal post so that they will look good no matter what. They more than doubled the projected death number of what we could do if we actually dealt with the war on COVID-19 effectively. So months from now they can proclaim how great T rump is for coming in well under 200,000.

@timb I don’t see the dotard as even caring that much, as long as he can be dictator. He’d probably be thrilled to cancel November’s election because to him that means he get to stay president, although I don’t think it will be cancelled, but I do think the Repugs will say, “If you want to vote, you must risk your life to do it.” Either that, or people will be wanting to drag the dotard and his cronies out of office, but this would mean possibly contracting the virus to actually physically do it.
Our lucky DOTUS, by his sheer incompetence, is killing off a disproportionate % of blacks via C-19. This helps what is most dear to him - remaining in power, because every black adult (typically democrats) that dies is probably one less vote against him in November. The States that have been the worst affected, have so far been Democratic. Maybe when C-19 moves aggressively into mostly T rump constituents’ areas, maybe then T rump will suddenly become more competent.

Our Dark April continues. Only now we learn that the C-17 virus can travel 13 feet in the air and also transmits on shoes.
Our DOTUS seems to want to have a BIG BANG reboot of the economy on May 1st. He claims that he has the authority to order that. If he does, the inevitable result will be a devastating rebound of the virus spread. And a 2nd shutdown will then be done. Then we will have gone from an economy with only a probable 2nd great recession to a probable 2nd great depression.
But despite the ruinous decisions that this DOTUS has made and continues to make, some of the dark clouds have silver linings. A consortium of Northeastern States are emerging to handle the transition back to an open economy with less danger of letting the virus loose worse than ever. Western States are also finding ways to cooperate. Strong Democratic Governors and maybe a couple of Republican Governors are leading a rational course to addressing COVID-19. So we still have a chance to avoid the worst effects of having a DOTUS with such a needy ego motivated above all by self-aggrandizement and re-election.
I don’t think there will be a second shutdown if the dotard gets his way. He’ll just let people continue to drop dead so he can be in office longer or so he hopes. Seems to me the majority would get smart and drag him and his cronies out of office and arrest them for crimes against humanity.
Idk. Even if he declares on May 1st that everyone must open for business and open up the economy, I don’t think enough people would do it to even make some businesses profitable.
e.g., I won’t be going out to eat until the C-19 is controlled, unless the restaurant has developed some way to ensure that the C-19 cannot be spread there. I won’t be going to any crowded sports or other large crowd events, etc.

So basically T rump is just being a blowhard politician with the rhetoric about opening the economy with a Big Bang. T rump would like that to happen, but he won’t do it. I think he won’t do it, primarily because he fears the responsibility for mistakes that he cannot make disappear by simply lying and denying it or blaming it on someone else.
But with the people he has on his new committee, who will be giving the “other side of the argument” (the open the economy and worship T rump panel) vs. the current panel with a couple of scientists on it, T rump is giving himself room to choose the Big Bang economy option. I just don’t know how crazy he is. I knew he had/has a character disorder, and that he is prone to acting on whims, but could he be further gone than I thought?
