Kids are missing their school lunches not to mention socializing with each other. Parents need to get back to work.
@sree oh yeah, let’s just spread the COVID-19 and kill 2.2 million people in the U.S. alone. That’s so nice of you. Really? You’d let 2.2 million people die just for your own happiness? And what if you get sick and it turns out die too? Young people aren’t immune from this virus nor are they immune from it killing them either. You can’t be serious about killing other human beings?
And what if you get sick and it turns out die too?If I get sick, I stay at home until I get better or die. I won't call 911 or get a test. By the time my corpse is discovered, the virus would be dead also. This is what I would do for my fellow Americans. This is what I expect every real American to do for me. Do you get it?
No, @sree, that is NOT what a real U.S. citizen does. They stay home in order to not cause others to get sick, but if they need medical help, they seek it out, unless they have a death wish. I get you must have a death wish.
I stay at home until I get better or die.I'm not going get in to whether or not that's the right thing to do for a single man with no one depending on them, but you do realize there are people who live very different lives than you, right? Like mothers.
Parents need to get back to work. This is what it's come to. I'm always a little uneasy with those woo-woo memes about how we are not put here on earth just to work 40 hours a week, then die, but the idea of that is true. It's not our reason for being. I work because it is the game that I need to play to get other things out of life, the things I care about, like looking down on some clouds from 14,000 feet now and then. I know my ancestors worked harder than me and had some idea of wanting my life to be better, most of them anyway. But we got on this "convenience" track, and 10 flavors of Doritos became more important than access to health care. Our ancestors would kick our butts if they were here.
The logistics problem in the Iraq war can be laid at the feet of their dysfunctional civilian leadership, at the time. Rumsfeld, Cheney, “W”, were tunnel visioned and inadequate, but also controlling. Our military effort was doomed by that clown car, from a few minutes after “shock and awe” thru out our stupid pathetic administration of that war.
Oneguy, you seem to think that any clown as Commander in Chief is as good as another.
Obama Biden used military assets to help bring the ebola epidemic under control. We had soldiers risking that deadly and horrible infection. But they did it.
Even W finally got a military hospital ship to dock at New Orleans after Katrina. It was a long time coming, but at least it got there.
T rump has proudly touted how a hospital ship is coming to help NYC and will be there in “3 or 4 weeks”. T rump is a LIAR, but let’s say, just this once, he is telling the truth. The f’ing peak of the simultaneous infection rates may have already crushed the healthcare resources in NYC, by then. “3 or 4 weeks” will likely be too late to help meaningfully.
Letting the business community be in charge of saving us from the Pandemic, has some problems. The businesses are not in charge. And when businesses are in charge, their primary self-directive tends to be making money, not ending a pandemic.
Sure, if you could find the right CEO type, who is a savant at logistics, AND you give him all of the authority and resources of the US military, then GREAT! But that’s not going to happen.
Don’t tell me that the most overfunded military in the history of Earth, is useless in doing any humanitarian function for us as it has in places like Haiti.
Thanks for your willingness to sacrifice yourself, Sree. I don’t think that will take care of the problem, tho. But it is nice of you to offer.

Kids are inherently healthy, better than most. Schools need to reopen. So easy to say for people who don't hold any actually responsibility for the welfare of others.
The general shallowness and lack of conception of what we are dealing with shouldn’t be astounding for me anymore, but alas, it never ceases to amaze.
@thatone guy
I think Sree just means many parents need to make money so they can afford the necessities for another week.I meant more than that. The US economy may be the most powerful but it has become a very vast, complex, intricate, fragile machine. Shutting it down for two weeks is like holding your breath underwater long enough to turn blue in the face. Humpty doesn't have to fall. Once it develops a crack, we will not be able to put it together again. I don't need to be in the President's Situation Room to know what doomsday scenarios his team of economists have projected.
My grandad, who was in the US Army in the Pacific in WW2, told me that American kids were killed on the beaches of Normandy. If we sent 19 year olds to die defending our country, we need to step up now. I would rather risk my life facing the virus than go up against the brutality of the Germans and the Japanese. Damn right, if our ancestors are alive today, they would kick our butts.
One thing seems very clear to me, the US had no robust plan in place and the reserve resources to respond systematically and rapidly.
Trump of course would choose to disregard any plan even if there was one because he doesn’t know how to do that, he only knows how to be a boss not a leader.
China built new emergency hospitals within 10 days or so, the US has built zero, this demonstrates a huge capability in leadership and resources management and logistics in China compared to here.
Our private health system is now a contributor to the pandemic because millions of people have no health care and so we have lots of people with infections but no course of action.
A country that put man on the moon (and actually plans to waste money sending someone to mars!) yet cannot protect its people from threats of this nature has some hard lessons to learn.
China built new emergency hospitals within 10 days or so, the US has built zero, this demonstrates a huge capability in leadership and resources management and logistics in China compared to here.China has a different system of government. You don't get to be President Xi by doing a song and dance to the people who get to choose who gets into the Oval Office. And the reason why Trump can't built hospitals let alone faster than Xi is because we are a republic. Trump has no authority to order State Governors like Cuomo or Newsom around; also, Congress controls the purse and Nancy Pelosi won't give Trump a penny to save the USA.
Each country has its own system. In good times, it’s better to be America; in times when you can’t have nutjobs getting in the way, China.

Trump can leverage the defense production act, he could have leveraged that a month ago and nobody would have stood in his way. Being a republic doesn’t automatically mean that the country cannot act quickly, the USA won the space race don’t forget.
Please don’t stoop to the level of defending the moron who’s currently President. The man lies all the time, cares only about himself and getting reelected, he is a petty rich spoiled brat who has never know hardship other than losing his hair.
What the Chinese did to build the hospitals rapidly is nothing to do with being a republic, it is simply organization and planning something Trump know nothing about.
Read about it here, I see no reason why the USA cannot do this (other than for a lack of leadership of course).
"Instead of first building the foundation and then following up with the superstructure (ie. the steel frame, the building, and the cladding), prefabricated units allow the construction of the foundation and the building envelope to take place in parallel.
“So the pre-fabricated element, which would be the Lego blocks that you would can see being craned in, are actually fabricated off-site in a factory at the same time the foundations are being prepared on-site.”
and
“Chinese state media has also given a lot of credit to the more than 7,500 laborers, who worked around the clock to construct the hospital.”
So please don’t make me laugh and don’t insult the American people by claiming our country isn’t capable of this and more.
Trump can leverage the ...Yeah, but trump is quite literally a clueless idiot. Plus he couldn't care less about people, it's all about his EGO. It is directly his and Republicans* disregard for community and health and the future that all this was allowed unfold. (*well along with Democrats impotence)
Had the CDC, NIH, WHO been supported and given the modest funding they asked for to prepare what they knew needed to done - None of this would have happened. NO ONE WITH ANY BRAINS HAS A RIGHT TO ACT SURPRISED! Still the baby man wants to play Rambo and have Trade Wars with China - TALK ABOUT LOOOOOOSER. Now it’s back to blaming every one else for everything. Harry Truman where are you when we need you most.
But so many still go on as though he’s leading us or something. It’s beyond comprehension the bullshit Americans have learned to swallow. Murdoch surely is the Master of The Universe he aways wanted to be.
So please don’t make me laugh and don’t insult the American people by claiming our country isn’t capable of this and more.
Oh for god sake, WAKE UP, we as a people were so unaware and disinterested that we allowed all this to happen.
We normalizes utter lies and disconnected from physical reality arguments to being championed, in arenas that demanded honest and integrity; along with a desire to actually LEARN; and bit of empathy for humanity; and respect for the future; and Evolution on this crowded Earth.
Taking our biosphere and Evolution seriously - but instead it’s still nothing but an endless flood of nonsensical puke.
I look at pictures of those stranded zagillion story luxury cruise ships, that many seem to think will be cruising again some day and wonder how much health organizations could have achieved and prevented - had we, as a collective society of intelligent people, made it a priority.
NOPE, the party and consumption had the priority.
Enough with that sanctimoniou Republican imbecility all ready!
I could be wrong, we’ll see, but all my experience makes me believe that frivolous spending will stop, meaning half of us won’t have any more income. I’m totally incapable of prognosticating on how that will unfold, but I’m pretty sure, business as usual will never ever happen again. We’ll see how much those horned trillions of national treasure will help the 1% when the most of the other 99% is sinking. There are definitely potentials for some short-term local wake up calls and improvements - but our global world economy will never look the same. There’s nothing there to build on.
After all this isn’t just some one off freak, we have created the ingredients for multiple biological and biospherical catastrophes - it’s inevitable, but you’d have to have some sort of appreciation for physical reality, Evolution and this biosphere that spawned us and that provides our life support system to understand what I’m trying to explain.
You know that funny stuff, such as appreciation for Physical Reality and our Mother Nature - read life support system, if you like.

Cost to build: $1.4 billion
Length: 361.8 m (1,187 ft)
Height: 72 m (236 ft) above water line
Beam: 47 m (154 ft) waterline. 60.5 m (198 ft) extreme
Decks: 18
Tonnage: 225,282 GT
Nearly as tall as the Empire State building, the Oasis of the Seas comprises 18 decks and fits 5,400 passengers plus a crew of approximately 2,160 members.
Here’s the kind of people we’re dealing with here:
“The issue emerged late last month in the U.S. when Secretary for Human and Health Services Alex Azar initially testified before Congress and refused to commit to ensuring that any Covid-19 product that is researched with taxpayer funds would be accessible to Americans. He subsequently backtracked, but by then a debate emerged over access to medical products in a time of a pandemic.”
So public money is used to finance privately owned projects and these b******s have the audacity to object that the same public get access to the resultant benefits.
This is the kind of obscene abuse of public money that Sanders has been talking about, but people didn’t care - perhaps now they will.
(Taken from this report).
Funding from the Dems support in the amount of $2.2 TRILLION, is about to go into effect, in order to keep our economy on life support, and hence, T rump’s re-election on life support along with it. Getting thru this crisis fairly well and getting the economy going again, is T rump’s ticket to establishing himself in a 2nd term in which he can consolidate his kleptocratic dictatorship. (And the Dems can’t turn down supporting a big spending bill that helps our citizens, even if it means giving T rump what he needs for his re-election.)
What I saw today and every other day of his administration was T rump blaming the previous administrations for what has gone wrong in this crisis. (He accepts zero responsibility.) He claims he saved many thousands of lives by his travel ban against China. (It appears that the virus got here in spite of T rump’s travel ban on China. The ban had holes in it.) But hey, that was one thing he sort of did right.) T rump, also, always says he inherited a dysfunctional system, not designed to deal with this pandemic. IOW, as usual, he blames Obama. This is a big LIE. What? Our dear leader would tell a lie over and over and over? Uh, yes, he would. He does.
T rump inherited the info that he needed to start getting prepared for this pandemic. T rump HIMSELF disbanded the CDC’s pandemic preparedness program that Obama had left for him. T rump has significantly decreased the funding of the CDC, EVERY YEAR of his administration. Even his suggested budget for the coming year had cuts to the CDC. T rump has gotten rid of competent career govt workers in most of the administrative depts., calling them deep state, because they did not come in their pants in ass-kissing acknowledgement of his “greatness”.
T rump’s incompetence in this crisis is OBVIOUS for anyone who can see the situation clearly instead of thru the lenses of T rump’s perpetual lies.
EVEN NOW, when we are about to go into the throes of the initial wave of COVID-19 beginning to peak, T rump STILL BLOCKS our doing surveillance testing on COVID-19. He presents it as a false choice of having to test all 350 million people in the country. He says that doesn’t make sense, therefore doing any testing to determine where the virus is in our population, does not make sense, according to T rump. So we are in a war with an invisible enemy, that has the power to secretly advance throughout our population, BUT T rump KEEPS BLOCKING OUR ABILITY TO DO SURVEILANCE. Our nation is being controlled by a self-serving LIAR during a time that we desperately need true leaders.
And here is the kicker: Despite the accuracy of everything I have said above, T rump, reportedly, now, has a 60% approval rating for how he is handling the pandemic.
Allow me to say to that 60% of approvers, what dumbasses you are.
“Getting the economy up again.” Sound so easy, just remember to read the directions first. Okay, we shall see.
