STAND UP FOR SCIENCE, Friday, March 7th, 2025

This is the sort of thing we should be talking up. Er, that should be talked up by people who care.

Stand Up for Science is officially supporting rallies in Washington DC and 31 other cities around the country. This means that a confirmed site leader—backed by our core team—is actively organizing a public event with SUFS volunteers.

If your city isn’t listed as a site of an official SUFS rally, you can still make your voice heard by joining the nationwide campus and workplace walkout at 12:00 PM local time on March 7th or adding your local event below.

You can find all of the events that we are aware of on the map below. (Official SUFS rallies are in red, walkouts and other local events are in blue.) Each pin is located at the exact meeting location that has been provided to us, and you can click on the pins for more information about each event.

Given the reality of these days and what we are up against, here’s the important small print:

Protest Safety

Our goal at Stand Up for Science is to host a series of nationwide nerd parties that–and this is the most important part–empower people to take continued steps to advocate for science as a tool for social progress well after March 7th.

Nobody ever wants an event to turn dangerous, but sometimes they do.

As scientists, we know that knowledge is power, so we’re sharing these tried-and-true tips for protest safety, sourced and adapted from the American Civil Liberties Union, Scientific American, Physicians for Human Rights, the National Lawyers’ Guild, and some personal experience.

Even if you don’t think you’ll need it for March 7th, think of this information like knowing CPR or mental health first aid. Even though you hope there’s never a reason–at any event–that these tips become necessary, it’s always better to be prepared.

Note: We’ve tried to keep this list as short and sweet–yet informative–as possible, but this isn’t all. We highly recommend looking through the linked resources, as well. The more you know :rainbow:

STAND UP FOR SCIENCE

March 7, 2025. Washington DC and nationwide. Because science is for everyone.

That’s at noon here in Charlotte.

:+1:
I didn’t realize you’re from Charlotte.
What a small world, I’ve had a chance to get familiar with the Waxhaw area,
Andrew Jackson’s onetime haunt.

Not really “from” anywhere. I have retired in Charlotte. Great weather and no fires, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc. Too religious though. Can’t have everything! :face_with_tears_of_joy:

Since we are on the subject, and religion often damages rational thought, I found this local news funny. (Not haha funny)
