Shamans started it all

Yep, I meant to out this in the science section. It’s been in my “watch later” list for a while. He asks you to accept there are experiences well beyond what science will even comment on and those experiences brought ideas about morality to early hunter-gatherer tribes. I don’t agree with Terence McKenna’s idea that these drugs somehow “switched on” our brains to get where we are now in human evolution, but let that go for 25 minutes and wonder if there are voices out there that can be tapped in to with a little help from nature.

The science part is how did these people figure out how to combine a few leaves and stuff in the forest and create these experiences that have been passed down all the way to us. He covers a wide range, including the current actual science being done and what the participants are beginning to say about it.

Good question near the end, isn’t this a libertarian/Republican thing, the freedom to take whatever we want if it’s not harming others? We know that people in power saw these woo-woo guys getting attention and questioning authority and they put controls on their use. Isn’t it time this became acceptable?

A roundabout argument for legalizing drugs.

The most generous thing you can say about this nonsense is it’s an interesting fringe idea.

A libertarian friend of mine pointed me to a book about how the legalization of marijuana fits the libertarian model. Seems pretty obvious to me. What about it don’t you like? Like marijuana, hallucinogens seem to be following the same path, start by showing the legitimate medicinal use, then start to decriminalize

That is such an inflammatory statement. This is about a single drug which has been misclassified as an Schedule 1 drug, on par with heroin and other highly physically addictive opiods.

Marijuana is a cannabinoid and there is no record of anyone dying from marijuana overdosing as a primary cause.
However, there is mountingf evidence that marijuana has several medicinal properties that may be used for mental and physical therapies, especially anticonvulsants.

Medical use is one thing. Recreational use is completely different.

This is about hallucinogens.

Marijuana is a drug,.

And you cannot compare the strands used by traditional people with the ones used nowadays.

The presents strands have a very high concentration of Tetrahydrocannabinol) (THC) and they are very addictive.

It has many adverse effects.

Adverse effects

My brother was a teacher in high school, he got students arriving in school absolutely unable to function and learn because they had smoked.

My wife was a lawyer. she had to dismiss a secretary because his smoking habits were incompatible with working

Since you brought up those legalized drugs, lets fill out the landscape:

What’s your poison?
