I think that the reduction of life expectancy in the world and in USA, due to Covid, shows how " benign"* it is.

[COVID-19 pandemic cut life expectancy by most since World War Two –study | Reuters] (

[US life expectancy declined in 2020 mainly due to COVID, report finds - ABC News]

  • benign being pure irony

Yep, natural selection at work. Overpopulation or overproduction of adverse climatic conditions tends to trigger a period of restabilization and restoration of hospitable conditions while reducing the offending causation such as overpopulation of an invasive species such as mankind and dominant weed growth, that affects the balance of contributing natural resources.

This seems to be a long term cyclical thing that ultimately returns to a period of stability and expansion of biological organisms. And so it continues, a form of wave function that is a natural result of a dynamic universe and the mathematical guiding equation that seeks symmetry and balance.

Who says the world is overpopulated?

I’m sure you have heard of Global Warming?

The Holocene extinction , otherwise referred to as the sixth mass extinction or Anthropocene extinction , is an ongoing extinction event of species during the present Holocene epoch (with the more recent time sometimes called Anthropocene) as a result of [human activity] (Human behavior - Wikipedia).[3][4][[5]]
(Holocene extinction - Wikipedia)

It does not necessarily rely on numbers but on ecological impact.

Look at the appearances of viruses, microscopically small semi-living biochemical organisms that over the history of earth has killed billions of living organisms, then die out or create immunity and balance is restored.

Mankind is one of the few species that can “discover” natural functions and use them for its own benefit. Problem is mankind tends to destroy everything else in its path, just like viruses.

Who is responsible for this ecological impact and what has global warming got to do with population?

I just showed you that anthropocene means “manmade”. That’s who!

Global warming is caused by the release of billions of years of sequestered CO2 , the primary cause for global warming, now accentuated by the release of methane from the thawing of permafrost in the northern lattitudes.

Methane contribution to GW.

Methane is produced by the breakdown or decay of organic material and can be introduced into the atmosphere by either natural processes – such as the decay of plant material in wetlands, the seepage of gas from underground deposits or the digestion of food by cattle – or human activities… more

Mikeyohe, I’m married and I insisted that my husband, mother, and adult kids get vaccinated. Only one son isn’t vaccinated and fear for his life, especially with the omicron variant and the conditions he lives (that’s another story, which I don’t care to discuss). Why did I insist they all get vaccinated? Because I don’t want them to die in that manner. Being unable to breathe is a terrible nightmarish way to die and I don’t want to have bury anyone because they died of it. You have no idea what it’s like for family members who care about if you’re not vaccinated.

As the other mod here, you’re nicer than my thoughts, but yes, it would be a breach of the rules. If we let one person do it, we have allow others and where does that take us in the end?

That’s a good way to describe them.

Bring this thread back on point - the Republican plan for America

“It has proven that on the right, people acting as terribly as possible seems to be the thing that makes you most adored,” says Chris Hayes. “That’s the recipe, the secret sauce of this current version of right-wing politics. And it’s not just rhetorical—They are literally celebrating killing people.”

Mriana, I do understand and have family too.

Trump has asked the people to get vaccinated. That will help. The Democrats are no better than the Republicans when it comes to getting vaccinated. The hydroxychloroquine shows that. When hydroxychloroquine was the only vaccine we had. The Democrats bad mouthed it because Trump. The WSJ said Trump touted it, so Biden denounces it. Trump had nothing to gain by trying to save the people. He did it because he loved his country and people. I think talking about these issues can help us better understand what is going on.

Typical snowflake. Talk like you really care about something. You said - Trump’s cocktail did not contain hydroxychloroquine. The cocktail he took was prescribed by the WH physician on advice by experts from the major drug manufacturers. To which I replied - Send me a source of your facts please. I have never heard that, and I can’t find any data backing up your claim. No response. So, I am reciprocity to your request.

You cry and try to claim work in the medical trade to get sympathy. Not working because Trump stopped the movement of COVID from being spread in America. So far this year Biden has allowed nearly 2 million unauthorized migrants into the USA. Many of those have been secretly shipped mostly to Republican states. Anyone crossing the border must be checked for COVID even if you are fully vaccinated. If you test positive you will be denied entry until you undergo mandatory quarantine. The Biden administration has let most of these people enter with no testing, after testing for a very short time and finding the highest levels ever recorded in the US. Biden stopped the checking after being caught sending these people to small towns and putting them in motels. Letting them roam around the towns. And they never informed the towns that they were doing this. So, if you are in the medical field, and not a communist trying to destroy America you should be praising the work of Trump and cussing at Biden for being a super spreader and not following the laws imposed on the rest of the people. People see this happening and naturally think they don’t need a shot or why would the government allow the shipping of people with the highest percentage of covid all over the country? Covid must not be that bad if it is the president’s policy is to spread people with COVID around the county.

Just catching up on this thread. Mike is classically using tiny data points as if they are well known facts and support policy. Even when backed into a corner of updated data, he chooses insult over admission. He is always on the edge of the rules.

No matter what. I don’t abide the name calling, even in retaliation. I think his personality is on display, and his lack of morals is verified

Florida governor order 1/2 million doses of hydroxychloroquine which no doctor or pharmacist can administer because theyare not designed for or effective for treating Covid.

There is your Trumpian mindset at work. Are you now going to blame doctors and pharmacists for unethical behavior by not administering a useless drug?

Florida could have ordered the real thing and administered 1/2 million doses of vaccine!

They’re just taking advantage of, and extending the boundaries of “If it bleeds, it leads”

Your quoted link to the Trump cocktail does not list hydroxychloroquine as an ingredient. You assumed it did contain, but if it did the physician that prescribed it would have lost his license to practice.

How cruel to the poor people who managed to escape mass murder in their home country. Humanism should not be allowed under any circumstance! Right?

Actually I am quite proud of my wife who has been instrumental in saving lives while working in ER.

I did my little part with proper medical billing practices, especially for drugs. What have you done lately other than subverting the truth?

OTOH Trump personally was causal to infecting 140 of his own Secret Service body guard agents and by recommending possible deadly medical procedures on TV with the most outlandish proposals that made the medical people in attendance cringe .

People who trusted this charlatan have died as a result of his meddling in affairs he has no business. If anything Trump aided in the spread of the Covid virus.

‘Shameful’: US virus deaths top 400K as Trump leaves office

By ADAM GELLER and JANIE HARJanuary 19, 2021

As President Donald Trump entered the final year of his term last January, the U.S. recorded its first confirmed case of COVID-19. Not to worry, Trump insisted, his administration had the virus “totally under control.”

Now, in his final hours in office, after a year of presidential denials of reality and responsibility, the pandemic’s U.S. death toll has eclipsed 400,000. And the loss of lives is accelerating.

“This is just one step on an ominous path of fatalities,” said Dr. Irwin Redlener, director of the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University and one of many public health experts who contend the Trump administration’s handling of the crisis led to thousands of avoidable deaths.

“Everything about how it’s been managed has been infused with incompetence and dishonesty, and we’re paying a heavy price,” he said.

The 400,000-death toll, reported Tuesday by Johns Hopkins University, is greater than the population of New Orleans, Cleveland or Tampa, Florida. It’s nearly equal to the number of American lives lost annually to strokes, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, flu and pneumonia combined.

Give me one citation by the medical community where Trump was credited with saving lives by except for closing the borders to travellers from China.

Please show me the updated data you are taking about. Are you talking about hydroxychloroquine. Used until the vaccines were ready. As you know, I can only respond to just so many items because the new system has limited responses. Yes there were posts about the hydroxychloroquine being dropped. But only after we had a better medicine. I covered that in a posting. “ Now take away vaccination because there was no vaccination when Trump was telling us that we could use hydroxychloroquine until the vaccines were ready.”

I don’t know how you have the time to keep up with all the postings. Drink a lot of coffee do you?

Health Dept. Official Says Doubts on Hydroxychloroquine Led to His Ouster

Rick Bright was abruptly dismissed this week as the director of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.

In a whistleblower complaint filed this week, top federal scientist Rick Bright alleges he was removed from his post for failing to go along with the president’s push to promote a drug as a cure for COVID-19.

On Wednesday, Trump dismissed the complaint, telling reporters Bright “seems like a disgruntled employee who’s trying to help the Democrats win an election.”

“I never met him, I know nothing about him,” Trump said, adding that he didn’t think “disgruntled people” should work for his administration.

Trump also observed that Bright is being represented by a legal team that represented “other people” – seemingly an allusion to lawyer Debra Katz’s representation of Christine Blasey Ford, who testified against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation. Bright’s legal team declined to comment.

> Bright says he was ousted from his position as director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority because he wanted to spend money on safe and vetted treatments for COVID-19 — not hydroxychloroquine. The president has called that common anti-malaria drug a possible “game-changer,” but there is no proof that it works for COVID patients, and it has side effects. The Food and Drug Administration ultimately warned against using the drug to treat COVID-19 without “strict medical supervision.”

mikeyohe, don’t tell me that you have been taking hydroxychloroquine.

That would certainly confirm my worst fears about you and the people you are in contact with.
