Pope visits border

NYT has editorial about the Pope visiting the US/Mexican border for solidarity for “refugees”.
Why doesn’t the Pope go visit the places where these “refugees” emanate from?
Why doesn’t the Pope visit the leaders of these nations the people emigrate from?
To me this is analogous to a neighbor who knows how to build a good tool shed.
He sees his other two neighbors. He goes to one neighbor and berates him for having a good tool shed while his other neighbor has no shed.
Why doesn’t he just help the other neighbor build a shed?
Does the Pope have any idea how many “refugees” we have already taken?
How clueless! How ballsy!
But keep on breeding! It’s the catholic way.

Forget the Trump references the Pope made…I know ya’ll don’t like him, I get that.
So this is what it takes to convince a nation to allow hordes of migrants into one’s nation?
A guilt trip by a catholic leader.
These are strange times.
What could the motivation be? If we want to regulate the amount of migrants coming in are we sinning?
The pope is from the Americas…is that the church doctrine now?
These lands are broken. These people are broken. So just move.
And why move all the way to the US? There are literally hundreds of westernized, modern cities in Central and South America.
Big Cities, small towns, farms, factories, mines, ranches, colleges, Universities, etc etc…
Is it because it’s an over-population issue? I can’t begin to imagine what the pope’s thoughts on over-population might be.
Especially in regards to centuries of church canon.
So the US isn’t over-populated…just send the hordes up here.

I didn’t follow it closely, but I think I heard that Farncis suggested something to the effect that Mexico should become a place for “dreamers”. You should find some comfort in that idea.

It’s kind of funny. I visited the Vatican once. It was surrounded by a Wall. A big ass wall.

I didn't catch those comments. Who goes to visit a country on a friendly, diplomatic visit...Mexico; and then yells across the border castigating the US for not accepting the migrants that are trying to flee Mexico? What kind of imagery is that? "Damn you USA for not accepting more and more migrants fleeing Mexico, oh sorry Mr Mexican President, what were we talking about? It's so nice to visit your lovely country."

Well, he is the Pope, the single premier individual of one of the world’s largest religions. He is going to say “Pope-y”, things, i.e., things that promote the agenda of his religion. In that regard, we shouldn’t expect that everything he says will be perfectly rational.
As far as all of what he said, we are more likely to hear only what our media targets in on and highlights, i.e., anything having to do with the puppy-monkey-baby of Republican presidential politics.

The pope sees the demographic writing on the wall, and knows he needs to appeal to the global south.

The Vatican is well protected against interlopers. You can bet the Vatican wouldn't take in even one refugee. Lois
