I condemn the fact that the French government let Israel buy French weapons even for limited amounts.
French government has condemned Israel actions in Gaza and Palestine.
More recently, on 25 August 2026, France and Saudi Arabia jointly called for an end to Israeli settlement policy and settler violence, demanded urgent and unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza, and rejected attempts to undermine the Palestinians’ right to establish an independent state within the 1967 borders.
France has strongly condemned Israeli conduct in Gaza, but the French government has historically been much more cautious about using the specific legal terms “genocide” and “crimes against humanity.”
I regret this limit.
France has moved considerably beyond verbal criticism—recognition of Palestine, sanctions against violent settlers, diplomatic pressure and opposition to settlement-related economic activity—but it has so far stopped short of using the strongest instruments available to it, particularly a comprehensive arms embargo, broad bilateral economic sanctions, or unilateral termination of major economic relations with Israel.
Such mesures must be taken at the European level. I deeply regret that the French government has not pushed for them.
So yes, I strongly criticize the French government’s policy toward Israel—but I also acknowledge the measures France has already taken, even insufficient.
