Want to propose some legislation restricting anyone’s right to bear arms? That a felony.

Even the most gun happy of gun rights folks have to admit that this is idiotic. And a little insane. Okay, a lot insane.
Nothing like recognizing the right to free speech.
Live by the gun, die by the gun.
Wow, Thats scarey
And the same moron who entered that bill will go around telling everyone the US has the best education system in the world. It’s Idiocracy happening right now.
Want to propose some legislation restricting anyone’s right to bear arms? That a felony. While I'm as unapologetically pro-second amendment as they come, I'm also just as unaplogetically pro-all-the-other amendments as well, and for the same reasons. Whether we like any of them or not, these are all rights which are supposed to be protected, not trivialized, marginalized, or legislated into irrelevance. So perhaps somebody can explain to me how supressing one's right to free speech and expression somehow protects any other right, 2cnd, or otherwise. Oh...waitaminute...it doesn't. Think this idiot will get it? If anybody does, I've got a bridge over the East River in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.
The good news is there is no hearing scheduled and the bill is not on the House calendar. I sincerely hope the people who voted for this idiot are embarrassed, but somehow I think they’re proud of him for protecting their right to wear short sleeves (pun intended).
There are probably tons of moronic bills like this proposed every session.
And here’s yet another argument the right wingers are using, The Dick Act of 1903. This was the act that created the National Guard and tied it to the regular military. Its purpose was to prevent a state from using it’s militia against the national government but the gun nuts interpret it to say that the act prevents the Federal Government from making restrictive laws due to a clause that mentions state militias may not be used outside of the state’s jurisdiction. Therefore buy as many guns as you want, even military weapons. There’s even websites touting this Act as clear protection of the right to arm yourself with whatever gun suits your fancy!
Cap’t Jack
I sincerely hope the people who voted for this idiot are embarrassedDon't forget that both parties send people like this to office, Something to start seriously thinking about anytime somebody makes the statist proposition that Big Brother Knows Best to bolster their arguements in favour of banning something...anything at all. (Including but NOT restricted to guns.) Big Brother does NOT know best and never did. If Big Brother did know best, we just wouldn't have the sort of problems that exist today.
If Big Brother did know best, we just wouldn't have the sort of problems that exist today. We wouldn't?
Really, both parties? Name 3 dems that are as nutjob as Aikens, Murdoch, and Alan West? I'm sick of this "equivalence" thing where someone says boths sides left and right are equally nutty. The right denies science, global climate change, womens rights, hates the poor, believes in uber-capitalism. So what? The left is equally nutty by supporting science too much, supporting GCC and the environment too much, supporting womens right too much?, taking care of the poor too much? Just stop.I sincerely hope the people who voted for this idiot are embarrassedDon't forget that both parties send people like this to office, Something to start seriously thinking about anytime somebody makes the statist proposition that Big Brother Knows Best to bolster their arguements in favour of banning something...anything at all. We wouldn’t?We wouldn't. More to the point, they wouldn't be taking the ones we have (As with the current budget battles) and make them worse. Big Brother does not know best so I don't care if anybody here has a left wing statist mindset or a rightwing statist mindset, just get over it and deal with it.
Big Brother does not know best so I don’t care if anybody here has a left wing statist mindset or a rightwing statist mindset, just get over it and deal with it.Right, time to get rid of the FDA, FDIC, the military, traffic police, etc. Anarchy should rule. Fixed the spelling
Right, time to get rid of the FDA, FDIC, thhe military, traffic police, etc. Anarchy should rule.I don't indulge strawman arguements either.
What’s the big deal?
They only want to make it a “class D” felony
Its no straw man, with the current "sequestration" Buffalo airport is going to lose its air controllers, among many other services. Its time people stop agruing that we don't need gov't is necessary, before all the bridges come tumbling down (literally).Right, time to get rid of the FDA, FDIC, the military, traffic police, etc. Anarchy should rule.I don't indulge strawman arguements either.
Its no straw manActually since it doesn't address the point I made, it is. Deal with it.
with the current “sequestration" Buffalo airport is going to lose its air controllers, among many other services. And who was it that came up with sequestration? The government! So much for Big Brother knows best. ;-)
Its time people stop agruing that we don’t need gov’t is necessary, before all the bridges come tumbling down (literally).I never said it wasn't necessary. I'm pointing out that the elitist and statist attitude that "Big Brother Knows Best" is demonsterably false. Whether you realize it or not, you came up with a remarkably good example which supports my point. (But perhaps we shouldn't complain. We voted idiots into office so we shouldn't be surprised when they persist in acting like idiots.)
Since the sequester was raised, see http://news.yahoo.com/why-cant-washington-compromise-theyre-too-human-131324676.html
Big Brother does NOT know best.
Since the sequester was raised, see http://news.yahoo.com/why-cant-washington-compromise-theyre-too-human-131324676.html Big Brother does NOT know best.True, but Big Brother Legislators should know "better", but oddly they seem to get worse at every level of fed, state, local legislative branches. We are not slowing down our progress, we are actually reversing those laws which at one time we held dear as an expression of American exceptionalism. Where America was once "a shiny beacon on the hill", locally we seem to be reverting to a "the Hills have Eyes" scenario. But then once in awhile my faith is restored.
Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA) has just introduced two bills to amend the U.S. Constitution to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. Posted on January 31, 2013, http://eslkevin.wordpress.com/2013/01/Perhaps this may help restore a little sanity.
But then once in awhile my faith is restored.I don't do faith. These blokes don't deserve it.
Perhaps this may help restore a little sanity.Actually, it puts the cart before the horse. - You don't restore sanity by compromising on one's rights. - You don't bring about sanity by the "Kollective Kulpability" mentality of punishing over a hundred million people who do no wrong because of the horrifically violent acts of an irredeemable evil few. All that does is breed contempt for the law by punishing the innocent who have never done harm and who have never been irresponsible. - You don't HAVE sanity when you think that government which has never been upstanding, compatent, wise, or morally upright about anything is suddenly the only entity which can be entrusted with a monopoly on deadly force. Given their track record for sheer stupidity, if any entity should be disarmed, it's the government, not the private citizen. You do restore sanity by avoiding blame shifting and actually holding the criminals accountable for their crimes. You can do even more by not permitting obvious sociopaths on the street. An example of that is the animal who ambushed those firemen on Long Island who was paroled when he should have been welded into a cell for life or executed. (He bludgeoned his own grandmother to death with a hammer.) We would do even more to restore sanity if we paid attention to all the red flags nutters are throwing up for all to see. These guys who were going on rampages were known to have issues and it's telling that the one person who refused to deal with Adam Lanza was the gun dealer who turned him down when he tried to buy weapons with false ID. We could do even more if we just enforce the laws we have on the books with which nobody disagrees. With over 80,000 denials last year on background checks, one has to wonder why only 88 were prosecuted. (And why wasn't Adam Lanza arrested when he tried to use false ID in the first place? Using false or stolen ID to illegally buy a weapon and falsifying government applications is a felony!) Don't talk to me about making new laws until we start using and enforcing the ones which make sense. I won't bother giving it a hearing.
