Of course she was elected. That was/is a clear fact. But what happened then? The title of the article is, “Benazir Bhutto assassination: How Pakistan covered up killing”. She was trying to get elected for a third time by the people. But the Pakistani government and religious leaders wanted her dead. They got their wish. They continued to muzzle the woman.

She was elected 3 times. You can’t be that held back if you’re elected 3 times.

The views of Pakistani voters is anyone’s guess. It’s a chaotic and probably not very smart country in general.

Pakistan is one of the most hardcore Muslim nations on Earth – yet they elected that woman more than once. That means your notion of it being impossible for women to be in politics in traditional societies is not accurate. Assassination is a risk for any politician worldwide, and we can’t judge a society by actions of an extremist minority.

By the way: I just looked up who killed her and it was thought to be Taliban. They aren’t the government of Pakistan, so this whole little side discussion is moot. She was killed by outsiders.
