Clean food and water comes from regulations and public utilities. High School education, or did you go to private school? Medical is provided if you can't afford it, because the alternative is let people die and I would not want to live in a country that did that.
Depends on what you mean by “survive”. Some people seem to want to turn America into something that looks more like the TV show Survival. To me, choosing between eating and having medicine seems like a struggle.
I mean nobody is dying from poverty. There is a lower quality of life for younger Americans compared to the past but it's not a whole lot lower. I personally have difficulty making ends meet sometimes although I really can't call that suffering. Irritating, yes, but irritation and setbacks are a normal part of life.
