How the conservative thinking of today is working to destroy democracy

Here is then – trotsky or trump? Is that crystal clear? -- Anton
No. You are assuming that my analysis of a complicated life would be the same as yours.

Not assuming anything. A revolutionary Bolshevik speaks for it itself

What the heck are you going on about???

Dems do not reject revolution. It’s the Repugs who reject it. If they repugs didn’t reject it, then they would allow up and coming Gen Y (millennials) to take over running the government. They, as well as Gen X’ers like myself, want Healthcare for all (socialized medicine), they do not want privatization of anything, and gasp! Take funds from the police dept and putting them to other social services that would better help a given situation. They also want other things too. Repugs, like the dotard, reject all of that. So who’s the revolutionary? Bernie or the dotard? It’s definitely not the dotard, who wants to send us back to the Dark Ages. The dichotomy isn’t beyond me at all. It does seem as though what I’m saying is beyond you though. Thus, as I said before, I chose Trotsky too, but not for the same reasons you did. You have no understanding what is actually happening currently in the U.S. It is a Revolution, in which there is a battle between the old fogies like the dotard, Moscow Mitch, etc and the younger generations who want the country brought up to the current times and be more like other countries in Europe, such as the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, even Germany. That is truly revolutionary, given that the old Repugs have their heads in their butts and do not want change at all. They fight change and modernization.

@lausten and @citizenschallengev3 I think he’s talking about Russian Revolutionaries and suggesting that Dems resist revolution, which is hardly true. It’s the Repugs who refuse revolution and change, attempting to force us back into the Dark Ages. Well there is not back, given that the U.S. has never had a Dark Age, but the Repugs would be very happy if the U.S. had a Dark Age, which is hardly revolution. No Bernie Sanders, a Democratic Socialist, is a revolution for the U.S. To me that’s better than any Bolshevik.

So Anton, would you say that Trotsky’s theory of permanent revolution challenged the whole perspective that the Russian bourgeoisie could fulfill its own revolutionary role, or would you agree with Kolakowski who says his view was that the democratic revolution in Russia would bring to power a social democratic government which would of necessity endeavor to continue the revolutionary process towards socialism?

To add to the thoughtful posts by others on this subject,

“Conservative thinking” is consistently opposed to change no matter how badly needed the change is in a society.

Conservatives steadfastly opposed abolishing slavery, enfranchising women, expanding civil rights, integrating the military, establishing consumer and environmental protections, ensuring the right to vote for all Americans and nearly every other measure that seeks to expand the benefits of liberty and fair treatment to all citizens.

Every society faces the ongoing question of whether to move forward and enact changes needed to guarantee fair and humane treatment to its citizens or fall back into accepting the status quo, a status quo that favors some and not others, a conflict between what is and what could be. Moving forward to ensure a fair and equitable political system takes imagination, empathy, patience, and decades of commitment and hard work. Liberals and progressives are of this type and are genuinely motivated to improve our country.

Conversely, there are many who simply don’t care about working to form a “more perfect union” and see little value in the struggle to do so. Conservatives fit this description and seem to prefer looking backward for what best represents their definition of what makes America a great nation.

One group says let’s move forward into the possibility of what could be and the other group sees change as either threatening or unecessary, and of those who oppose “change” the most, religeous conservatives are the most obdurate. The answer is simple LET WOMEN RULE THE WORLD!
