Hi everyone!
I am 73 years old, a Greek retired Master Mariner and a militant atheist.
I have been studying the history of religion for 25 years; as a result I despise agnosticism and if you do not mind my lecturing you, we are going to have a great time.

Is it anything like a militant Islamist? Sounds ominous.

Hi to you, just wondering, about what time period does your study of religion begin?I was always fascinated by stories about gods. While much younger I read much of Daniken but he was a disappointment. I commenced reading ancient literature and mythology long before retirement (I retired at 51 with 24 years of sea-service behind me) and on retiring I devoted more time in the research. So, actually, I have been studying religion for more than 30 years.
What is your definition of a militant atheist? Is it anything like a militant Islamist?Yes, I am as passionate as a militant Islamist is, but I would always be armed by my keyboard only. ;-)

That’s comforting. Now, if we could only depend on everyone being armed only with a keyboard . . .My weapon of choice is an Ipad, easily concealed, portable, allowed on planes and ready at a moment's notice to use as a ready defense against ignorance. Of course I could physically smack people with it if need be. It is protected by the first amendment! Cap't Jack
The keybhoard’s main enemy is the academy (the professors teaching in universities all over the earth) which is responsible for the ignorance pertaining among scholars and laymen as regards the history of religion. Does any institution, anywhere in the world, explains to its students how it happened and intelligent human beings ended up believing in the God idea which is insulting to human intelligence? Definitely not…but this is not the place for discussing the reasons behind the supposed ignorance of the academy (and of science, of course) when it comes to the history of religion. I think that a new topic entitled “The naiveté of the New Atheist scholars" will do the job. ;-) http://www.centerforinquiry.net/forums/viewthread/18277/That’s comforting. But is your iPad protected from the hard heads? That’s comforting. But is your iPad protected from the hard heads?Yes, the flamers and the trolls don't stand a chance! Cap't Jack
