Haitians in Ohio

I wanted to start a new thread on this.

The fact that something is legal doesn’t mean it is common or accepted. For example, gay sex is legal, but only a small number of people are doing it.

Very few Americans would eat dogs or cats because we do have a moral aversion to it. Eating those animals is something foreigners do.

In the case of Haitians eating cats, that looks to be based on another recent incident in Ohio where a Black (but not Haitian) woman killed and ate a cat.

Here’s a city commission meeting from Springfield OH.

A lot of residents are saying the Haitians are making life there worse. At 1:10 you can hear one of the most “controversial” speakers saying they’re killing local ducks. I don’t know what the local laws are there – in my state of Pennsylvania it’s legal to kill ducks in some situations but not others – so that might be what’s going on in Springfield OH.

The key thing here is shipping a huge number of alien people to a small city is inevitably going to cause trouble, and the citizens can’t be blamed for asking their elected officials what is up.

People are not being shipped anywhere. We are a nation that accepts immigration and needs people to fill jobs. Should we stand by while people are killed by gangs or starving?

Trump is isolated from reality and can’t help but speak about things that his extremist voters believe.

@thatoneguy You’ve shown yourself to be a racist time and time again. IMHO you probably found an article that supports your opinion about Haitians, which is counter intuitive to CFI’s position on research and alike. Not only that, you chose YouTube to support your opinion.

The truth is, Haitian immigrants in Ohio are not eat cats, dogs, or anything pets. All of what the dotard said in the debate were lies.

Yes, they have been shipped…

No

I’m talking about Haitians, from Haiti, across the sea. You can’t get there by bus.

Okay, I was just pointing out that the statement has been shown to be true in the case of Texas bussing people to other cities. NYC mayor has said that it is burdening his resources.

But YES! In the Ohio case, Springfield advertised plentiful jobs. Haitians looking for work naturally went there (and told their friends/family). And they did so legally.

The best source for truthful information is likely from the town itself. The town welcomes and is generally HAPPY to have the migrant workers. Sure, there are a couple of ill-informed locals who like to whine and feed into the Trump hysteria, but most are being true to the American intent to welcome those from war-torn countries.

This Dayton article shows how wonderful MOST of the Ohioans are:

This is what the Republicans have a problem with. Biden has used this program, a program that is over 50 years old. It’s discretionary for Presidents. Biden cranked it up due to the terrible situation in Haiti. In the past, like Vietnam, we have flown people here, but for Haiti, they pay their way on commercial flights.

The pain is, I had to figure this out. Some people don’t want to discuss a program’s merits in a reasonable manner, they want to exaggerate and over generalize. When they say “secure the border”, they mean no immigrants, except maybe white people who speak English. That would seriously harm our economy.

According to the AP, “Nearly all Haitians reach the U.S. on a well-worn route: Fly to Brazil, Chile or elsewhere in South America. If jobs dry up, slowly move through Central America and Mexico by bus and on foot to wait — perhaps years — in northern border cities like Tijuana for the right time to enter the United States and claim asylum.”

That could be illegal routes. Im talking about the legal one, which helps reduce illegal crossing

Thanks! I don’t know how I missed that.

If my cousin hadn’t said something about the Customs and Border Patrol website, I would not have known what to Google. I don’t know why Democrat candidates don’t get ahead of these narratives. Maybe, because with things like Project 2025, if you point to the thing that’s behind their words, the extreme Republicans deny knowledge of it, or just deflect, then the Democrat looks bad. I really don’t get it.

Everyone says they prefer talking issues over mud-slinging, but mud seems to be where we all go.

The US government allows them to enter the country, which is the same thing as being shipped here.

And if Haitians are poor and violent, that’s not our problem.

The only pro-immigrant comments in that article are from a handful of lawyers and city officials. How is that indicative of most of the townspeople – let alone of the whole state?

Allowing migrants into the country is the same as shipping them in.
Only a few people in the video were pro-immigrant.

@thatoneguy, you just have to twist everything to your xenophobic, misogynistic self.

That’s what this nation is, immigrants. If you go back far enough, it was 100% because they didn’t count slaves and natives. I shouldn’t have to explain this.

Fortunately cooler heads are in charge. If we implemented a “not our problem” policy, our problems would be much bigger. All of the countries where we extracted resources, encouraged military governments, and fought proxy wars would actually be “sending their worst people” here.

Why do drug dealers come here? Because we buy their drugs.
Why do migrant farm workers come here? Because we don’t want those jobs.
Why are their countries in poor condition? Much of it is due to policies here.

Why dont both parties admit this to the public? Because these same policies are good for American capitalism and thats what they have been ordered to do by wall street

You do realize your ancestors took over land that belong to other people, don’t you? White people were not the first people to live on North or even South America. The Americas are full of indigenous people and you’re not one of them. Cloud Dancing and his people lived here first.

That said, my ancestors came off one of the boats with the Mayflower and the people who lived here be like, “We don’t want you here. You bring disease and death to our people, even steal our women. Go back to where you came from.” Now you’re doing the same thing, when it was your people who invaded to begin with. BTW, those wanting religious freedom were all “shipped here” and in Georgia, criminals were “shipped here”. The list continues, but I think you get the point.

I doubt he has the capacity.

With god on our side

And the song forgets slavery …

Oh, my name, it ain’t nothin’, my age, it means less
The country I come from is called the Midwest
I’s taught and brought up there, the laws to abide
And that the land that I live in has God on its side

Oh, the history books tell it, they tell it so well
The cavalries charged, the Indians fell
The cavalries charged, the Indians died
Oh, the country was young with God on its side

The Spanish-American War had its day
And the Civil War too was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes I was made to memorize
With guns in their hands and God on their side

The First World War, boys, it came and it went
The reason for fightin’ I never did get
But I learned to accept it, accept it with pride
For you don’t count the dead when God’s on your side

The Second World War came to an end
We forgave the Germans, and then we were friends
Though they murdered six million, in the ovens they fried
The Germans now too have God on their side

I learned to hate the Russians all through my whole life
If another war comes, it’s them we must fight
To hate them and fear them, to run and to hide
And accept it all bravely with God on my side

But now we’ve got weapons of chemical dust
If fire them we’re forced to, then fire them we must
One push of the button and they shot the world wide
And you never ask questions when God’s on your side

Through many dark hour I been thinkin’ about this
That Jesus Christ was betrayed by a kiss
But I can’t think for you, you’ll have to decide
Whether Judas Iscariot had God on his side

So now as I’m leavin’, I’m weary as hell
The confusion I’m feelin’ ain’t no tongue can tell
The words fill my head, and they fall to the floor
That if God’s on our side, he’ll stop the next war

Probably not, but I like giving people the benefit of the doubt… up to a point.
