It’s not pretty, but neither are wars of convenience, or our destruction of Earth’s stable climate system and natural resources (starting with clean drinking water) that those future people are depending on.

POLITICO - Supreme Court has voted to overturn abortion rights, draft opinion shows

“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” Justice Alito writes in an initial majority draft circulated inside the court.

The draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right. “ Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes.

“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” he writes in the document, labeled as the “Opinion of the Court.” “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

Yes, SCOTUS is now engaged in “planned parenthood”. They have decided that if some insane person rapes a woman that child with the rapist’s DNA should be allowed to enter the human gene pool.
Or, in the case of parental rape a child with a “recessive gene” must be allowed to grow up and its DNA be allowed to enter the general gene pool against the will of the mother.

SCOTUS knows better than Natural parental selection. They will decide how the human gene pool shall evolve. Hip Hip Hooray!

Regarding the leak of the draft

“To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the Court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed,” Roberts said

The integrity of the court was undermined when McConnell refused to hold the hearings for Merrick Garland.

Exactly! These Repug men just want to control women and love women like that dotard woman who was rammed onto the Supreme Court, because she bows and coos to them, doing their bidding. They don’t care if women die from childbirth or coathangers, as long as they have control over their medical decisions and own their property and money. They want to go back to 1970s where a woman couldn’t get a credit card. They want to go back to a time where a woman couldn’t get a job outside the home without her husband’s permission and that money was also his, just as her property was his. Oh they say it’s god and religion, but it’s their desire to control.

Yeah, and why can’t the Democrats be proclaiming that simple message with all those donation dollars they keep begging off of us.

Good religion when for the most part they couldn’t care less about living children and mothers, it’s alway been a great political Dog Whistle, more than any genuine concern for children’s wellbeing - save the fetus, but refuse to feed the hungry child in school, go GOP.

I happened to sit down as Heather Cox Richardson was starting her live talk on facebook today. This is a topic she has studied extensively. It’s not just abortion, although Kavanaugh says it is, but he’s lied before. The Roe ruling was that women already have this right, just like all people have the right to vote. It’s based on the 14th Amendment, the same one that holds up gay marriage. “States rights” started in 1820 to uphold slavery, and has been resurrected recently by corporate lawyers to make it easier for them to avoid federal regulation. This is a huge step toward authoritarian government.

This is a big damn leak. I mean the news is good but supreme court needs to tighten up security.

Hell no. It is becoming very apparent that the supreme court justices can lie as bad as any gangster who denies knowledge of anything that he should have knowledge of.

The last justice who told the truth was Bork. He admitted he was against abortion. And he was not accepted. Since then every Republican justice has lied through his teeth just to get confirmed.

But on Tuesday she said those assurances are “completely inconsistent” with a leaked draft opinion showing both conservative justices would vote to overturn the precedent.

“If this leaked draft opinion is the final decision and this reporting is accurate, it would be completely inconsistent with what Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh said in their hearings and in our meetings in my office,” Collins said in a written statement issued Tuesday morning.

Everything that Trump touched ends up corrupted and evil. This guy is truly a demon who leaves a trail of death and destruction in his path wherever he treads.

Good? You call having Roe v Wade overturned good? It is not good. It is the Religious Reich attempting to control people, especially women. It’s none of their damn business what a woman and her doctor conclude medically. No one has the right to decide a woman’s health care, except her and her doctor. What this will do, if it does go through is kill women, who could have been saved and leave living children motherless. High risk women and poor women are especially vulnerable. Rich women can find means to get what they need.

Now the women gotta get engaged in this coming election, at every level of government, defeat the Republican hate machine and their right wing totalitarian extremism and demand a return to rational fact lead governing with a touch of compassion.

Time to clean up the Senate and the House and then get to work and start passing a ration law, which is decades over due anyways.

So what happens to a woman’s right to pursue happiness when she is forced to suffer through 9 months of unwanted pregnancy and another 18 years of rearing an unwanted child, who may be the product of violent rape or be genetically damaged from a familial recessive gene?

Seems to me that this is forcing a woman to suffer almost 20 years of her life in an “unhappy state”.

Who has the authority to order such constitutional insult on a woman?
Instead of ordering such burden, is SCOTUS not tasked to protect a person from such obligation?

One of my favorite Heather Cox Richardson comments was that she likes logic. She was explaining the history of “states rights” and how it is a shield for getting around the will of the majority. She noted the illogic of it being invoked for the 2013 Shelby v Holder ruling, where the federal government needed to prove a voting rule change had to be proven to be discriminatory, instead of the state making the change needing to prove it was not discriminatory.

If you are complaining that the federal government is, or might, reduce your opportunity to vote, then you should be promoting everyone in your state’s right to vote. At least that would be logical. Instead, those states are the ones putting in ID laws and closing polls.

And 13 States have abortion laws waiting to be activated as soon as SCOTUS declares that the federal government cannot be involved at all.

You see It says “all men are created equal” and no one bothered to amend that to read “all persons” and specifically identify women as being persons.

That’s because in their holy book of control, women are not persons. They are evil spawns of Eve who must be controlled. Men are the real people, according to their little holy book of control.

True, but I think we had control of that fringe. The corporate wing of the party has been promising this to them for decades, but I didn’t think they’d ever get it. I keep hoping their strategy will backfire, but apathy and a lack of leadership on the Left help keep it rolling on.

IOW he is referring to the bible because apparently, 50 years of precedent (Roe) is not old enough.

As I said Christian Sharia Law, except for the fact that the bible does not specifically say that life is sacred.
Witness the unnecessary holy wars, because God was rumored to have blessed the murder of infidels, on both sides no less.

Life is sacred is a man-made moral tenet and definitely falls under the consideration of SCOTUS.

The question is if a fetus is a person and is therefore entitled to constitutional protections.

So it comes down to what constitutes “personhood” instead of “manhood”.
