“democracies dont lie, people do” is a shutdown line for talk of political change. Much like the redneck cretins that use the “gun dont kill, people do” to sabotage gun control discussion.
A gun is a very effective weapon for killing. A country with a well informed citizenry and the ability to vote people out, makes lying a little more challenging.
No one is shutting you down, metalhead. Did you expect everyone to agree with everything you say?

Acknowledging SOME common ground seems a bridge to far. Only expectation would be pushback by demonstrating the flaws in the thinking.
“A country with a well informed citizenry and the ability to vote people out, makes lying a little more challenging.”
opens a can of worms of who informs and about what? Voting out a liar only allows another liar to be voted in. Great system
Occasionally, I do see him.
It’s a bit of a shape shifter,
Sun light and shadow even the mood of viewer and such,
True enough.
So we start with trying to figure out the people who began all these monstrosities against their fellow humans. But it didn’t start with us, then we start going back and the more we learn, the clearer it is how we still behave according to primal urges and patterns that have been dictating our behavior for thousands of civilized years.
Where do we go with that?
I myself believe some simple, but profound changes in basic philosophical attitude towards ourselves and this Earth that created us, are first base requirements.
What do you think?
I got no idea what you are talking about
Oh sorry,
A deeper understanding and appreciation for this planet, its biosphere, its geophysical processes and its deep time history, which among many other things is the story of how Earth created and sustains us humans.
An explicit awareness that our Gods are the product of our human mind/imagination. Religions and faith are good things, but they belong to the realm of our mind/imagination and not of the physical world of physics, biology and complex systems.
Explicitly understanding that a woman has sovereignty over her own body, and that she has the right to self-defense and the defense of her existing family. Along with the historically obvious, when push comes to shove, in the final analysis: A woman’s life IS more important than the life of her fetus, tragic though it is, part of the cycle of life.
Bring back respect for honesty and good faith debates, respect for serious science. Critical thinking & curiosity & sense of humanity, being a part of something bigger than me.
Seems a good start, there’s more detail in other threads.

Great system
There are definitely flaws, as we’ve seen recently. But if you can’t accept that “well informed” actually means reasonable and based on demonstrable evidence, then we just don’t have words to begin the discussion. We only have our imperfect brains and our a ability to reason. There isn’t some other place to go to check the facts.

I got no idea what you are talking about
Wel, there it is. Finally a truthful answer.
why did you say there is no agreement? I asked for more information. What about transparency, balance disclosure, and objectivity in reporting ?
Your questions require unpacking, untwisting. I don’t know why we are having so much trouble understanding. It didn’t seem you were acknowledging the things we do agree on. And I didn’t hear a question or request in what you said, just accusations.
This makes me think of the art of negotiation, it begins with finding commonalities,
then use those to build rapport and clearer understanding of where each is coming from.
By and by build upon that growing foundation.
The attacks and insinuations and bad-faith are checked at the door.
Which requires a certain mutual respect, if not trust.
Or, at least a bit of self depreciation and humor,
after all, we’re all petty mortals, possessors of foibles.

I didn’t hear a question or request
Is transparency, balance, disclosure, and objectivity in reporting outside your scope for enabling a well informed public?

Is transparency, balance, disclosure, and objectivity in reporting outside your scope for enabling a well informed public?
If the transparency is truth, yes. If not, no!
So far you haven’t convinced me of your truth and I certainly don’t feel enabled as informed by you.
No. The press is critical. The fourth estate as they say.

Occasionally, I do see him.
It’s a bit of a shape shifter,
Sun light and shadow even the mood of viewer and such,
Now it looks like a little wall.
Do you acknowledge that there a lack transparency, balance, disclosure, and objectivity in reporting in America?
Obviously. Much of our media is horrible. But I wouldn’t know that if there wasn’t also good journalism.

Do you acknowledge that there a lack transparency, balance, disclosure, and objectivity in reporting in America?
No I don’t . There are some news organizations that are lacking, but not all.
Freedom of speech allows for truthful reporting as well as skewed reporting.
Do you acknowledge that there is a lack of transparency, balance, disclosure, and objectivity in reporting in the entire world?
Do you believe there is no lack of transparency, balance, disclosure, and objectivity in reporting in the following:
