The House Intelligence Committee has sent a criminal referral to the Justice Department for Erik Prince, founder of the mercenary firm Blackwater. House Democrats are accusing Prince of lying to Congress during his November 2017 testimony before the Committee, when he described a meeting in the Seychelles with a Russian banker before Donald Trump’s inauguration as a chance encounter.
According to the Mueller report, the meeting was an attempt to establish a backchannel between the incoming Trump administration and Russia, and may have been arranged by the Trump team. The move is one of the latest actions placing Erik Prince in the spotlight after more than a decade of largely working in the shadows after Blackwater shut down.
In a major new report, The Intercept looks at Prince’s latest actions, including his pitch to privatize the war in Afghanistan; his creation of a mercenary army for the United Arab Emirates; a history of mismanaged projects that have soured his relationships with leaders around the world; and his comeback, made possible with the help of the Trump administration.
We speak with Matthew Cole, the investigative journalist who wrote the story. It’s titled “The Complete Mercenary: How Erik Prince Used the Rise of Trump to Make an Improbable Comeback.”
Oh man, no matter how this latest chapter plays out, this shit is going to come back and bite everyone. But most folks really don’t care about any of that. How does that work?
We were discussing “meaning” in another thread, so I looked up Viktor Frankl. I found an interesting quote of his:
“… there are two races of men in this world, but only these two — the “race” of the decent man and the “race” of the indecent man. Both are found everywhere; they penetrate into all groups of society. No group consists entirely of decent or indecent people.”
I suggest, that if Frankl is correct, that Erik Prince and his new patron, DJT, are members of the “race” of the indecentman. In Frankl’s day, those who ran the Nazi concentration camps were mostly of the race of the indecent man, but even there, were a few of the race of decent men.
Prince is exactly the type that would fit in with an emerging autocrat like our Trump who has already successfully demonstrated that he is above some of our laws. Things are likely to get worse, maybe much worse, if they don’t start getting better soon.
Prince is a has-been who was never that good to begin with. The pentagon itself is a much bigger threat to national/international stability than this half-assed Tim Spicer wannabe.
Prince is just the sort of dipsh!t that Trump likes. I would not be surprised if Trump found a way to hire the blackwastewater mercenaries as his personal SS Troops.
But then, we may again escape the worst of Trump’s inclinations. We did get past his attempt to get Hermaine Caine and that other Trump behind licker to the Fed board.
I really don’t know a lot about the blackwastewater group other than Prince seems to be serious scum. I do know that things that were thought to be impossible, having to do with Trump, have happened.
