Does Feminism Cause Child Obesity?

Do the increasing numbers of women working mean their kids don’t get proper nourishing meals, turning instead to fast-food and other unhealthy food leading to obesity?

No, conservatives voting against school lunch programs and other forms of assistance to the poor leads kids to eat fast food and become obese.

And fast food corporations taking over nutritional policy in many places is also a major factor, when vegetables are more expensive in many places than crap hamburgers filled with garbage then it is very difficult for many people to even have access to a healthy diet.
The economy is being run in such as way to make a few people wealthy and obesity and other serious health outcomes are the result.
But go ahead and blame it on people who are in many families forced to work two jobs because while costs have been steadily increasing for decades, wages have been stagnant.

Environmental justice is concerned with an equitable distribution of environmental burdens. These burdens comprise immediate health hazards as well as subtle inequities, such as limited access to healthy foods. We reviewed the literature on neighborhood disparities in access to fast-food outlets and convenience stores. Low-income neighborhoods offered greater access to food sources that promote unhealthy eating. The distribution of fast-food outlets and convenience stores differed by the racial/ethnic characteristics of the neighborhood. Further research is needed to address the limitations of current studies, identify effective policy actions to achieve environmental justice, and evaluate intervention strategies to promote lifelong healthy eating habits, optimum health, and vibrant communities.
You can try and blame it on women joining the workforce, often for economic factors out of their control, or the fact that the poor often don't even have access to a healthy diet. But why give a damn about people who aren't millionaires and can't donate huge sums of money to buy politicians who might enact sane policies in their interests.

Working mothers are definitely a <a href="http://www.marketwatch.com/story/new-research-blames-working-mothers-for-childhood-obesity-2017-05-08"contributing factor to childhood obesity. However, the overall sedentary lifestyle of the modern world would produce a rise in child obesity rates even if women were staying home more often. to childhood obesity. The two career family was a terrible idea in almost every way. Fortunately younger Americans are rejecting it somewhat.

A good mother would never allow that to happen. A parent has to be a full-time parent.

I don't blame women who have no choice but to work. My beef is with women who need to "find themselves."

You talk sense Beltane.

Oh gosh what kind of fantasy world have you erected for your own self satisfaction. Yeah, mother's are running off to work to "find themselves" and god is in heaven watching over all of us.

You talk sense Beltane. Only to another conservative, what are you going to be "debating" now, how evolution is a myth as well as climate change? Feminism has nothing to do with most families needing to have two working parents, economics does. In the last three decades wages have been stagnant as productivity has soared, the super-rich got that way by taking larger and larger slices of the pie while everyone else has been forced to get by with a progressively smaller portion. But why face the fact that it's corporate greed that is driving things like obesity when you can just blame it on a movement that largely died out years ago. This is 2017, not 1977. But that's modern conservatism for you, devoid of facts but full of scapegoats.

Apparently he's stuck in some kind of time warp back in the 1970s, it's only a rift in time space that allows him to communicate with is in 2017 at all. Let's all just ignore the fact that people have to work harder and harder now just to get by because a few people are taking most of the wealth in the world. In the US in the 1970s the guy in the executive suite was making about 30 times what the guy on the shop floor was. And while production has soared since then with developments in technology and skills the guy on the shop floor has seen his wages pretty much stuck in the same place when adjusted for inflation but the guy in the executive suite now makes about 150-500 times what he did. Costs have exceeded inflation but wages haven't and most of the benefits of growth in the last 30-40 have gone to a tiny minority... the people who basically fund the conservative movement who tell us all to shut up while blaming us the rest of us for all of societies ills. We'd all be perfect like them if we just as greedy and heartless apparently.

Probably should just start a thread titled, 'Does conservatism cause genital warts", it would make as much sense as this idiocy.

Soon it became a cultural standard to expect women to work (outside the home). It wasn't something women had to do to, it was a social experiment that proved detrimental.

Why this sudden urge to get a career for women? Women, way back, seemed to function and find fulfillment rearing their kids, supporting their spouse and generally offering emotional support for others who needed it. This seems to me a much more natural role for women than today's rush to egotistically "fulfill themselves.' It is the elitist, middle-class feminist movement that has sought to distort the role of women brought about by too much liberalism that has eroded the natural function of the sexes. I blame the media for generating fashionable ideas that encourage social experimentation and instability in our society, leading to a colder, more syndical world. Maybe Islam has a point.

Well, if you are saying that women put money before the emotional needs of their kids then I find that a sad indictment of the times.
