DDoS

Just FYI the site was offline for awhile today. CFI folks are posting that there was a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack that gummed things up for awhile.
Seems to be working now, but it could always happen again.

Gosh. I thought maybe it was something I said. Maybe it's government surveillance.

That’s a relief. I was afraid someone forgot to pay the web hosting bill.

I just figured it was the Chinese govt. hackers practicing on us.

Or the US ones!

A new empirical proof that God exists.
I noticed it just happened when I wanted to start discussing free will again…

I think that's the answer!

Yeah, he said, “Oh geez, not again.”

Please do not joke about that.

Remember that when last time I had a DDOS attack on my server in Minecraft → I changed my cloud-hosting to Cloud4u https://www.cloud4u.com/cloud-hosting/disaster-recovery/ with the best disaster recovery feature. The feature was created just for these cases of emergency like I had.

Hopefully, this forum defended itself somehow. So we are all fine :3

DDOS attacks are a disaster and are very cheap and easy to launch.

On second life, I have friends whom site, la Rose rouge, has been attacked up to 13 times a day. It is the main French speaking site on SL .

How did they defend their site at the end?

They did not. Second life is a metaverse owned by Linden labs. After months, the attacks more or less stopped. Either the griefers stoped, either at last, Linden banished them.

It is not easy as the griefers use VPN protocols to protect themselves., among other means.

This thread is extremely old and this was a long time ago.

Yes, but the facts I am relating happened this year

Well, at least they stopped. Probably tired from DDOS’ing

But this is something I am always scared of tbh. We have antiviruses, special scripts can ban people by IP. However, they still find the breach.

In France, there are not fixed IP. You change IP when you restart your box.
