China mediates peace deal between Iran & Saudi Arabia

This is huge!

Regional rivals Iran and Saudi Arabia agree to restore ties after years of tensions
The deal, which will see the two countries reopen embassies in each other’s capitals, was sealed during a meeting in China and announced Friday in a joint communique.

Archrivals Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed Friday to restore diplomatic relations, a dramatic breakthrough brokered by China after years of soaring tensions between the regional rivals.

The winners are:

Iran, which will now be even more able to break through the sanctions wall the U.S. has put up around it.
Saudi Arabia, which now will likely be able to end its disastrous and costly war on Yemen.
China, for outplaying the U.S. State Department by achieving this.
Iraq, Syria, Yemen as they will become more peaceful as the two middle powers influencing policies on their grounds end their rivalry.

The losers are:

Israel, because the chances for its attempts to get the U.S. into a war with Iran are now diminished. Its hoped for coalition with the Saudis will not come into being.
The U.S. for having been outplayed on its traditional ‘home grounds’ in the Middle East.
Anti-Iran hawks everywhere.
The Emirates for losing at least some of the sanction busting trade with Iran to Saudi Arabia.

Whats your thought here? Good? Bad? Dont care?

Obviously this is a regional security deal that will impact the hole region as well as the rest of the MENA. Specially will have a profound impact on Iran’s security in the Sunni Arab world. As well as major security impact on fragile Saudi security in her north and south regions and Persian Gulf.

Obviously, Saudis for thier security had a choice between alliance with Israel or peace with Iran. Looking at the Saudi choices is obvious in this new forming multi polar world peace with Iran is much more valuable and a win win than the alliance with Israel and US against the new coming world security structure.

Saudis now not only will have more assured security in their north and south regions but also now with the reduction of American power in the world can better manage and maintain security without regional hostility with a much larger and more powerful regional power.

The Empire will be quietly furious at this development. One of its basic tools is its ‘divide and conquer’ approach, and Western Asia/Arabian peninsula is a part of the world where it has exploited religious and cultural differences for too many years to count.

Personally, I hope this leads to a positive and constructive resolution in Yemen, the conflict that never appears on the Mighty Wurlitzer of the Empire, unless some ‘fundraising’ NGO needs to pay its CEOs bonus.

Saw this on the Onion today. Seemed relevant.

What Empire? Does it have an Emperor?

this deal netween Iran and Saudi Arabia and China’s role as mediator won’t go unnoticed in the rest of the Western Asia / Middle East / North Africa region and beyond. Other countries with disputes with near neighbours might consider China as a mediator. Egypt’s dispute with Ethiopia over the latter’s use of the Blue Nile’s waters for industrial purposes and electricity generation comes to mind. The DRC’s problem with Rwanda over that country stealing DRC diamonds and other valuable minerals in its eastern border areas is one that might also be resolved in Beijing through diplomacy.

You’re saying China could possibly become a better mediator than America was?

Yes, the US practices instability-R-us, wherever it can. In Iraq it involved blowing up a Shia mosque and arming Sunnis to fight the Iraqi Shias, which evolved into ISIS, requiring (for the US) an enduring US military presence in that poor country.

Here we go again! Accusing the US of a most dastardly act without a shred of evidence. You are a piece of work.
In Iraq the Sunnis and Shia have been at war since the 6th century, before the US even existed.

The bombing of that mosque was an Al-Qaeda job.

In February 2006 , sectarian tensions in Iraq escalated into a full-scale civil war after the bombing of the Al-Askari Shrine (which is considered one of the holiest sites in Shia Islam) by the Sunni organization Al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Empire of chaos - post 2003 USA shock and awe

OK, so no Empire then. Just chaos. Why not just say that instead of throwing a chunk of red meat to all the insurrectionists? Don’t you see what you are doing?
Or are you doing this by design, creating post 2023 chaos in the US?

If I may.

USA lost in Vietnam, with a great moral and financial cost.

Everyone agrees that US attack on Iraq was a disaster, from the beginning, funded on lies, and that the present situation is worst that every other solution would have given.

Afghanistan intervention was a failure.

The world has changed. USA are no more the only super power.

And West countries, not only USA, are seen as ennemies in many countries.

Example of France in Africa is evident.

China and Russia are seen as recourses against West. they don’t selectively condemn some dictators and support others, they support all of them. For a dictator, it is an insurance.

And by successfully mediating between Iran and Saudia Arabia, China has scored, it is true.

The price that the new customers of Russia and China will pay will be costly at term. For instance, Wagner mercenaries are pillaging the African countries in which they operate and mistreat the local population.

Even if the numbers are exaggerated, China is buying thousand of acres of arable lands.

China wins contracts with low prices, but the quality of the building is very poor.

America does bring chaos to much of the world – we can’t deny that. Also, it does seem that the American era is ending. China may end up better at mediating, but like America, they aren’t doing it because they are nice.

China is a threat to america because its pushing for peaceful resolutions around the world. This is not good for business

China is a threat to american power because it is a super power with imperialistic ambitions.

China is so peaceful that almost every Asian country flocks to the US alliances. Vietnam is negotiating for the opening of an US base on its territory.

In south seas China is methodically taking military possessions of islands who rightly belong to other countries sending military ships disguised as fishing ones.

And Taïwan would deserve a topic in itself.

Big belt and road projects in Malaysia Thailand Singapore laos Indonesia cambodia

What is wrong with peaceful solutions?

What are you talking about?

You betcha the country that’s built the world’s most gargantuan Ghost cities is doing all this out of the goodness of their heart.

I don’t pretend to know details about the Big Belt project, but I do know how to use the internet and it’s easy enough to discover the dark underbelly - (not to even mention the environmental realties and their inevitable destructive consequences.) -

China’s Massive Belt and Road Initiative

China’s colossal infrastructure investments may usher in a new era of trade and growth for economies in Asia and beyond. But skeptics worry that China is laying a debt trap for borrowing governments.

WRITTEN BY James McBride, [Noah Berman]> (Noah Berman | Council on Foreign Relations), and Andrew Chatzky

…Some analysts see the project as an unsettling extension of China’s rising power, and as the costs of many of the projects have skyrocketed, opposition has grown in some countries. Meanwhile, the United States shares the concern of some in Asia that the BRI could be a Trojan horse for China-led regional development and military expansion. …

An expert’s point of view on a current event.
" This is the wrong response to the Belt and Road Initiative. Ignore the hype: For the Chinese, this initiative has been a strategic blunder. By buying into the flawed idea that barrels of money are all that is needed to solve complex geopolitical problems, China has committed a colossal error. Xi’s dictatorship makes it almost impossible for the country to admit this mistake or abandon his pet project. …"

Metalhead, do you really believe the net fifty years will be like the past fifty? Do you appreciate the highways need a lot of proactive maintenance, especially in the face of intensifying damages from extreme storms, if they are to remain useable past the ribbon cutting phase?

And so on and so forth.
