Are dreams better than reality?

What does that have to do with the box question?

Everything. go outside for an hour or so. Come back and tell me about it

I’ve done that before, what’s your point?

You need to get out more. Do it. Then we’ll talk. When was the last time you were outside for more than hour?

Why are you dodging the question? My frequency of being outside has absolutely nothing to do with the topic. I’m asking which would actually be more preferable, and why people would choose to remain in a reality where they are limited rather than one when they can create whatever they wish.

Why are you dodging the answers. We've told you repeatedly, given you many excellent reasons, and you keep rejecting our arguments with nothing more than waving your hands and saying they aren't good enough. You won't engage us, so why should we bother engaging you?

You aren't answering the big part of the question; that given the choice between a world where you can have anything and any pleasure, why would you return to a limited reality. I don't know where you're getting excellent from.

I’m not dodging. Look back. I agreed with you. I said “duh”. There’s nothing left to talk about. Now go do something useful so we can talk about it.

Titanomachina, What argument are you looking for? In the end absolutely nothing matters. So you win. However many people, including myself, choose to decide that our lives have value simply for the being here and being placed into the game. [Rambling paragraphs giving more details to joy of the natural inclination towards an appreciate for the folds within folds of harmonic complexity that surrounds us ... - deleted. How about I take it to a hippy-dippy level to try and simplify. I'd much rather consider myself and my time here in this life and this body and this world as my opportunity to be the Eyes of the Universe*. It has required living alert and proactive, 61 and still dancing on that sword's edge of reality. Never thought I'd make it near this far, so I'll admit I'm living in a bit of a happy daze looking back and realizing what a strange and wonder-filled trip it's been. Machina, I fear you spend too much time looking a superficial projections, as though Earth and people had nothing more to offer than a Post Card, at least that's how it comes across to me. But there's depth and details and nuances and beauty, life and death, good with the bad and often who's to say which is really which? So much to see, so much to experience. We can't have life without death. It seems to me a lot of people get hung up on that part. They abhorrence of death. They possess an attitude that death is a personal moral affront. They need security, some absolute answers, even if it's in the smoke'n mirrors of ancient tribal texts. They allow themselves fantastical intellectual gymnastics to build transparently self-serving rationalizations and mental images. I myself rather stay grounded in the reality of this planet and society, learning about and always striving for a better appreciation for all I see. It's fun and exhilarating. There. The choice is yours and no one can tell you otherwise. but, you brought it over here, so I'm happy to toss in my two cents worth. I possess no truth anyone else can take to the bank. All I know, and it's all I need to know is that with my attitude and my willingness to do pretty near any job, my interest in people, I've managed one epic 60 years. That's why I don't do much fiction. For what, too much is unhinged from reality and the rest is flat and missing the spice of the real thing. Which is much better than any story a person can conceive because life and people are always vasty more complex and surprising that we can ever imagine. * To better appreciate where that comes from, would require first understanding evolution. Then I could explain the concept to you. "Who says understanding Earth’s Evolution is irrelevant?" http://whatsupwiththatwatts.blogspot.com/p/understanding-earth.html

It seems you're looking at your own question with the emotional maturity of a spoiled six-year-old brat. I doubt I can talk you out of that mindset, but it is apparent the rest of us on this thread have matured beyond your viewpoint.

I disagree with your entire statement. I don’t find life terribly complex, it seems rather bland to be honest. When compared to the vast imaginary worlds one can create in the mind, the real thing is a pale comparison. I’ve learned just how flat and dull people are, and reality isn’t much different to me.
People have tried to sell me that story on the “complexity of life”, but I never have. Because it seems to me like they just aren’t looking hard enough. I think we dream because reality is unfulfilling. We create world where anything can happen and live out these things, even if it isn’t real we can pretend it is. So no, I don’t think realty is as great as you say (certainly not complex, even if it was it doesn’t make it interesting) because otherwise there wouldn’t be a need to dream. I also think it’s the reason we have fiction.
It’s hard to see why people would choose such a limited reality.

Have you ever volunteered for anything? Serving meals to hungry people? Helping clean up after a disaster?

We dream because the mind has a day full of experiences to process.

Because it seems to me

Can you be sure about that?

Yes I have, and I realized how futile the experience is. It's work that's usually required by school to look good on an application. You also learn just how awful people are when you help them

Can you be sure about that? Yes we can, because you have shown zero interest in having a reasoned discussion on this topic you raised. You just wave your hands and dismiss every objection without giving any reasons. If you wanted to discuss this sensibly you would present your opinion, back it with logical arguments, consider counter arguments and explain why they are not as strong as your arguments. Instead you posted a question and then dismissed all objections without thought-out rebuttals. So yes, we can be sure we have said enough.

Yes I have, and I realized how futile the experience is. It's work that's usually required by school to look good on an application. You also learn just how awful people are when you help them I understand you now. You are a nihilist. I feel sorry for people like you, but not sorry enough to waste any more time.

He is a waste of time. Just living off the charity of others and expecting others who deal with the real world. His excuse is that it's "bland". He says, "We create world where anything can happen and live out these things, even if it isn’t real we can pretend it is. So no, I don’t think realty is as great as you say (certainly not complex, even if it was it doesn’t make it interesting) because otherwise there wouldn’t be a need to dream." The first sentence is barely English and what is he talking about? Movies? Game Boy? or just dreaming? We "create world", how? Oh, "we pretend", like children. Then, reality is not great, oh sorry, I guess that's why it's called "reality". Dream? Dream of what? A better world? One where people help each other? Oh, we have that, but once someone wasn't nice when he helped them. I seriously doubt he has ever done any volunteering, at least none that someone didn't make him do, so, that's not really volunteering. And "futile"? How is dreaming not futile? What does it lead to? The guy is a walking contradiction.
