Nobody claimed otherwise.

Unfortunately, Mesopotamians didn’t use math for anything except agriculture. The West had a bigger imagination, and here we are.

Even with those slightly weak points, the world still wants to come here. If not America, then another Western nation.

No matter what angle you look at it from, we rule.

Yes, but that’s only because they did not need it. When you are an isolated society and have very little trade, there is no need for sophisticated mathematis.

Most things get invented only when there is need. That’s how evolution works.

The “double entry” bookkeeping system was invented by a monk, because the church insisted on accurate accounting of the monastery’s financial activities.

That is just not true. I would move to New Zealand today. I’m not alone.

All Western countries. This fact seems to be hard for you.

I wouldn’t call ancient Mesopotamia an isolated society without much trade. And their math was sophisticated for the time.

You’re correct that necessity is the mother of invention. For some reason, some people have this drive to go beyond what’s necessary. That was the West for a long time.

Very true. I was the antenna sometimes and then there was the needle nose pliers.

Yeah, I would say that would make pretty much all of us not U.S. citizens, except the Native Americans. He’s taking rights away from a vast majority of people as we speak. He signed a bunch of stuff to overturn anti-segregation laws. :rage:

I call BS right there. Every problem we have today stims from people who are still racist, bigot, misogynist, hypocrites, xenophobic, transphobic etc.

Again, I call BS. That crap has gone on long before any globalization.

Why not just say it, anywhere that Europeans have oppressed the indigenous population.

USA seen by an ultra right French ( Google translated)

Trump’s presidential entourage (the term “cabinet” seems rather limited in its scope) includes quite the collection of billionaires. The list includes

Elon Musk ($363 billion),
Donald himself ($6.3 billion),
Warren Stephens ($3.4 billion),
Linda McMahon ($3 billion),
Jared Isaacman ($1.7 billion),
Howard Lutnick ($1.5 billion),
Doug Burgum ($1.1 billion),
Vivek Ramaswamy ($1 billion),
Steven Witkoff ($1 billion), and
Scott Bessent (unknown, supposedly colossal fortune).
This collection of very wealthy individuals being given political appointments is completely unprecedented in the annals of American presidential administrations.

Musk is the obvious exception, since he is much richer than all the others combined, but it is remarkable that they are all billionaires. Why are the giant, overstuffed moneybags drawn to Trump like moths to a flame? What could possibly motivate them to pick up the fallen flag of government service and march? What do they hope to gain? What do they fear to lose?

But first we must answer an even simpler question: Who are these people? The answer is: They are rich bastards. Why bastards? It’s also simple: They acquired their wealth in this century—a century in which the United States has steadily lost ground. So far in the 21st century, China’s industrial output has increased tenfold, as has the wealth of the Chinese population as a whole, while U.S. industrial output has increased onefold, a growth of a fraction of a percent. Excluding the top 1% of Americans (in terms of wealth and income), which is an unusual aberration (they represent a country within a country, so to speak), the United States has become considerably poorer.

This becomes immediately and abundantly clear to anyone who flies to the United States from one of the modern, shiny megacities such as Beijing, Moscow, or Dubai. The place is old—simply outdated and dated, rather than antique or classic, because it was built hastily and cheaply. It is dilapidated and dirty. The people are cheaply and slovenly dressed, vulgar, unkempt, often pushy and rude, quick to anger and violence, and generally abusive. The food that is widely available to them is of too poor a quality even for the pig trough. It is no wonder that many of them look sick: they are pale or swollen-faced and obese to staggering proportions.

Obscenities fly in public places, whether or not there are children present. Children are a special case. They are not normal – curious, amazed by the amazing world around them and eager to explore it and connect with everyone they meet. On the contrary, they are afraid of strangers, estranged even from their own parents, whose upbringing often seems lukewarm and dishonest, and sink into the meaningless abyss of a digital device that was put in their hands practically from birth like a kind of electronic pacifier. They are prepared to remain blind, infantile and dependent on digital technology for the rest of their sad little lives.

Oh, it’s okay. I did miss that. But I think your point about hostile takeovers is a good one. I suspect that guy thinks everyone would flock to nazi germany had it succeeded.

That was directed to guy. He does seem to judge success based on how well we can extract resources including people.

Many Star Trek episodes have explored the idea of evil empires with earth-like histories

I wouldn’t say it because that only applies to a handful of Western nations. Four, to be exact.

What makes a successful society to you? If we aren’t successful then the term is meaningless.

Educating the next generation. Increasing the circle of who we are compassionate to. Raising up the standards of living of people in and around it. Innovating in medicine, communication, understanding the human mind, showing mercy for those who do harm and allowing them to make restitution, treating problems like drug addiction as the mental health issues that they are, making amends for the errors of past generations that benefit current ones.

For starters

We do all of that. No one else does.

You mean the noble explorers who discovered the world? You are pretty selective in your historical knowledge.

Who exterminated the Aztecs?
Hernan Cortes
The Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes conquered the Aztec city of Tenochtitlán, which led to the end of the Aztec empire123

You wouldn’t be here if no one else did those things. Those things started before there was written language.

You are pretty selective in discussing the right subject.

Totally ridiculous.
