Video: The Art of the Impossible: MC Escher and Me - Secret Knowledge

IMHO this is some seriously awesome stuff. I don’t know much about the guy, but I’ve always thought Escher’s art was pretty neat. I knew he liked to play with geometry, but I didn’t realize just how much. Wow.

Yup, some crazy totally fascinating stuff, I stumbled on this one last year, quite similar I think.
M. C. Escher - Artist, Mathematician, Man - Roger Penrose and Jon Chapman Oxford Mathematics -Published on Jan 5, 2016 -1:11:45 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clQA6WhwCeA&t M.C. Escher is known as the mathematician's (and hippie's) favourite artist. But why? And was Escher, a man who claimed he knew no mathematics, really a mathematical genius? In this lecture Roger Penrose and Jon Chapman not only show why Escher has won the artistic and mathematical hearts of mathematicians, but also why his art is inspiring both artists and mathematicians today, as captured in Jon's brilliant updating of Escher's 'Picture Gallery' to the new mathematics building in Oxford.
I've love his stuff since high school, and yeah, hearing about some of the details, really added way more dimensions (pun intended) to my appreciation, even though I'm not particularly mathematically included. There's another one I couldn't track down, it's more biographical and shows some of his earlier work which included really beautiful landscape drawings, but I'm not having any luck. He was an truly amazing artist, talk about a unique view on the world.

Yes, nice complementary video. I dug the lecture.

I’ll have to watch these videos sometime. Not sure when I’ll get the chance, but hopefully soon.

I don’t have a background in math, so most of the good stuff will probably be over my head, but it’s still neat listening to smart people talk about other smart people- it makes me happy to know they’re out there doing their thing.
