US LEAVING AFGHANISTAN ON 9/11

Exactly, 20 years of no major Taliban terrorist activity in the US. Let's see if this changes after we leave.

What you consider as having accomplished …SOMETHING?

Why wait until then? Setting 9/11 as the end date is cringe as all hell but Biden is corny. Hopefully it happens.

He may have reasons for that. I think it’s fitting.

“Taliban terrorist activity in the US”

There had never been a Taliban terrorist attack or incident in the US

Because Trump's date was logistically nearly impossible.

So why not pick a symbolic date?

This rings familiar of when Bush set a withdrawal date set in Obama’s tenure and everybody complained that Obama was abandoning the fight.

And Trump campaigned on “Ending the Forever Wars” the first time around. (he didn’t have much of a platform for 2020)

From what I understand, Afghanistan was a tortured wasteland before we got there - from the Russians.

In short, the 20-year conflict in Afghanistan accomplished nothing other than killing more than 2,000 Americans, wasting trillions of dollars of American treasure, and slaughtering hundreds of thousands of Afghans while leaving their country little more than a tortured wasteland

Correction, that was Al-Qaeda. However from this report;

Following the attacks on 9/11, President Bush told the American public that the Islamic militant group Al-Qaeda was responsible for the devastating attacks and the Taliban regime of Afghanistan provided a safe haven for the terrorist organization. The mainstream media and the Bush Administration blended the Taliban and Al-Qaeda together making the two groups the same terrorist entity in the eyes of the American public.
In fairness:
The Taliban, however, played no role in the 9/11 attacks, had no prior knowledge of the attacks, publicly condemned the attacks, and provided many different options to the US to try Osama Bin Laden for his crimes. The two organizations are distinct and have very different goals, ideologies, and sources of recruits. This paper serves to differentiate between the Taliban (not neo-Taliban) and Al-Qaeda and examine how and why each group started, their goals, operations, and cultural, ethnic, and geographical backgrounds.

Afghans have a long history of defending their country from empires, going back to the Romans. Your understanding is myopic. Just look where they are a located and you can see they are an important part of history.

Lack of political willpower is the reason. There have only been a small number of Americans in Afghanistan the last couple years. We easily could have left by Trump’s May deadline.

And symbolic dates are lame.

Sorry. Title is wrong. The war is to be fully privatised
