What are you “in between”, Mike? Stupidity and common sense? Anybody who can’t make up his mind about Trump is worse then a Trump supporter. There is no contest.
Hi Mike. The link you gave. Any duscussion thoughts consideration regarding policy? Its a simple question
Mike (not MikeYohe); posting links is fine, although posting one as your first post, with no additional comment doesn’t really help us get to know you. I usually don’t bother too much with new members who do that, often they are just “drive by” posters. So, tell us what you think and we’ll tell you why you are wrong. ![]()
I suspect, now, that Trump will be impeached. He does something almost everyday to seemingly force Dems into starting impeachment. But he cannot be removed from office without 2/3 of the Senate (which is controlled by Trumpublicans). Thus most likely is that when he is not removed by the Senate, the Trump campaign will tout from the mountaintops that he was “completely exonerated”, that he again heroically overcame “the attempts by traitors to take him out by coup”.
Trump has his base guaranteed votes. Even tho that is not enuf to win the popular vote, it is almost close enuf to win the Presidency because the Repubs always have an advantage in the electoral college. So Trump just has to lie effectively enuf to convince a relatively small percentage of independents to vote for him. Then it’s 4 more years of Trump hell in America.
Lest anyone become despondent re my previous post, I must add that there are scenarios in which Trump loses the 2020 election.
Hope is our hero. Fear is our foe.
Is there any reason to impeach Trump, given that spineless Republicans would never vote against him and would never vote to remove him from office? He WOULD bleat from the mountaintops that he was completely exonerated of all charges. So why impeach him? Rational people should just work toward getting the Democrat elected. I see no value in impeaching Trump. He won’t be removed from office, so why go through a futile exercise that will give him reason to bloviate and make the dumbass Republicans more determined than ever to reelect him?
Getting impeached did not really work out too great for Bill and probably didn’t help Hillary either. You do it because it’s the right thing to do. A bunch of weak Republican Senators can’t vote for it because they’ll lose their gravy train, but let that be a mark against them.
thats going to solve the problem??
It isn’t going to solve any problem. It will create several and make existing ones worse. Do we need to give Trump more ammunition to playbto his base and pull in a more white supremacists? If Trump is impeached he is handed the 2020 election. Do we want to shoot ourselves in the foot and have another four years of ignorance, intolerance, debt and deficit, a trashed economy and very possibly war because “it’s the right thing to do”?
Please let us know what the good part of “doing the right thing” is. So we can sit on the rubble of what was once the United States and our own safety and financial stability and gloat?
Most righties don’t know what Communism is. For them it is a talking point zinger that they think will cause ppl to fear the person they are accusing of being Communist, no matter how baseless and stupid the accusation is. They do it constantly. Imo these righties are idiots for misusing the term, and the ppl who believe them are bigger idiots.
Mike, Trump, I think, could be a progressive, if he wanted to. His base will follow him anywhere, even there, I suspect. But he is not a progressive. He is, in fact, a very effective antithesis of progressivism.
But u r correct to imply that progressives and capitalism are compatible. All of our major political figures are Capitalists. Even the Democratic Socialists. U think Bernie is not a capitalist? Think again.
We are all capitalists but sensible people are in favor of a mixed economy— capitalism tempered with social programs designed to help people who have been hurt by capitalistic excess, which is most people at one time or another except for the 1%.
Right wingers call everything communism that might help people to avoid the pain of untrammeled capitalism it is another indication of right wing ignorance. It is an epithet that reveals the fascist attitudes if the right wing .
Govt programs that provide support to the poor and the middle class are considered by righties to be socialism and communism and the road to being a failed state like Venezuela.
Govt programs that provide subsidies to wealthy interests and corporate entities are somehow ok for the righties.
The righties way of thinking has been pre-eminent now, for decades. Hence there is our current extreme wealth disparity.
Time for a change.
Too bad people can’t see past the false baggage that terms like ‘socialism’, ‘communism’ and other politically charged words have. It’s as though only the most extreme version of things can exist.
There seems to be no room in the minds of righties for nuance. They think and act in extremes, and seem incapable of imagining that others have self-control and can think and act rationally.
It’s like the smaller the mind the more the ‘argument from incredulity’ takes hold.
