Donald Trump has been branded a shocking and shameful racist after it was credibly reported he had described African nations, as well as Haiti and El Salvador as “shitholes" and questioned why so many of their citizens had ever been permitted to enter America.
US diplomats around the world were summoned for formal reproach, amid global shock that such crude remarks could ever be made in a semi-public meeting by the president of America.
In a strongly-worded statement, the UN said it was impossible to describe his remarks as anything other than racist, while the Vatican decried Trump’s words as “particularly harsh and offensive".
The 55-nation African Union said the remarks were “clearly racist".
Over the ages, the United States has routinely intervened in Latin America, overthrowing left-wing governments and propping up right-wing dictators. President Obama pressed a reset button of sorts last month when he traveled to Cuba and Argentina. Now it’s time for him to visit a Latin America country that is geographically smallest but where Washington’s footprint is large and the stain of intervention perhaps greatest—El Salvador.
That failure to speak out looks benign in contrast to the active role Washington played in the “dirty war" in El Salvador in the 1980s, which pitted a right-wing government against Marxist guerrillas. The United States sent military advisers to help the Salvadoran military fight its dirty war, as well as hundreds of millions of dollars in economic and military aid.
In Argentina, the security forces killed some 30,000 civilians. In El Salvador, more than 75,000 lost their lives during the civil war, which lasted from 1980 until the 1992 peace agreement. The guerrillas committed atrocities, but the United Nations Truth Commission, established as part of the accord, found that more than 85 percent of the killings, kidnappings, and torture had been the work of government forces, which included paramilitaries, death squads, and army units trained by the United States.
trump is so stupid he doesn't even have a clue why so many people from Latin America are trying to get to the US. Decades of US intervention in Central and South America has led to social collapse and created conditions so bad that many including children are fleeing for their lives. Many of the young people from the region now in America did not come to the US for jobs, they did so because they had justified fear they would be murdered if they stayed at home.
The US spent billions of dollars training people to murder other people across Latin America, instead of apologizing for these crimes against humanity trump instead calls some of the areas most deeply affected "shitholes" and one of his "solutions" is to build a massive wall to stop people who are now fleeing for their from conditions the US played a central role in creating.

This is a smear on all America to have a president who is so ignorant and so disgusting in his openly stated views. It is an even deeper smear on the entire republican party who he represents in the White House. Anyone heading to the polls this fall truly needs to keep in mind just what the republican party now represents, if the republican controlled US Congress does nothing to remove this threat to peace and stability in not just the US but the world then they are in fact in support of his hatred for certain peoples who he obviously doesn't think even have a right to exist on Earth.
I also think anyone who supports turning the entire US/Mexico border into a fortified zone is deeply racist in their views.
Not only should trump be kicked from office for this and most everything else he’s done and said, the US needs to totally rethink its policy towards its Southern neighbours and genuinely work to help heal the very deep wounds it did so much to create in many places.

When they go against all the principles the US was founded on I think it still means that people who are trying to impose the latest version of tyranny in the US are a lunatic fringe group.
And as Stanley Milgram showed in his experiments, most people will follow an authority they have accepted as being responsible for their actions no matter what that authority does. That doesn't mean that most people are happy or really believe in what trump and the idiotic republicans are now doing in the US at all levels. It means that millions of people have assumed an agentic state and will follow authority until it is replaced by something else.
This is why instead of having sane policies to run the nation on the republicans are instead attacking the democratic institutions that provide a government that represented the interests of the people.
