The point of life/living

This is where you are supposed to explain what you think “thoughts” are.

Come on step on back to podium and give it a try.

No it isn’t, certainly not the way you worded.
You are missing some things.
Imagine that.

… and you just vomit out empty denials.

An example of your said vomit.

You haven’t picked anything a part, you’ve ignored information shared,
then you vomit childish denials.

At least he’s still trying - unlike most of the rest of the people out there!

The difference between “trying” and “feeding a troll” is not always a fine line

We see how well that mentality served us.

We should have learned long ago in the kindergarten of climate science denial, that all trolls provide a teaching platform , if not for that specific troll, but for every one who has to look at said trolls, falsehoods.

Perhaps a little more thought into choosing one’s battles, but any effort sure beats responding with apathy and this passive who cares - why bother attitude. That’s how a people lost their souls, and we lost our nation,

I think that’s two different things. Individual trolls on a specific social media platform have very little power. Deliberate creation of misinformation, funded by powerful governments and corporations is used to feed the platforms, that’s where the power is. Individual trolls pass along that misinformation, sometimes because they profit from it, and just as often, because they are the victims of that misinformation machine. Ignoring those end users, those passing it along, the ones whose bias is confirmed and are comforted by it, ignoring them usually results in them moving on to a platform where someone does try to argue with them and they feel like they are worth something.

The engine itself however continues. Addressing the sad person with no friends in a dark room, drinking Red Bull, does not address the actual problem.

Apparently neither has anything else.

We aren’t entertaining microtubule nonsense again.

They didn’t really determine anything, when they got pushback they folded. Just like anyone without a solid basis for their view.

I don’t have to do that.

But I do know they don’t really reflect what’s going on all the time.

Yes it is, feeling with them is how most use and understand it, so work with that. I don’t care what you personally think it means, it matters how most use and understand it.

Already did when I showed that the notion of empathy in the links is closer to what I think it is, which is imagination, and not really feeling their pain or emotions.

Pay closer attention.

I cannot walk away from a wrong observation as declared by an unbalanced person.
It cannot be allowed to stand, except as the ruminations of a confused mind.

As the saying goes: “not responding is the same as agreeing.”

Gotta admire your consistency. Even when you I’m saying you don’t engage, you label it something else and argue against it, as if you are engaging. You’re like a machine, oh, wait…

That is exactly what we are doing, paying close attention.
OTOH, you haven’t a clue how the brain functions.

For instance, your use of the word “imagination” is an example of your ignorance .

The Brain Region Behind Creativity and Imagination | JWU CPS

The hippocampus and amygdala, both parts of this system, are especially relevant to creativity and imagination. The hippocampus is charged with storing and retrieving memories, and the amygdala is responsible for processing emotions. In conjunction, these two parts of the brain help to form ideas.

Note that imagination is a process of the same brain regions that produce empathy.

Constructing Memory, Imagination, and Empathy: A Cognitive …

These behavioral findings underscore a complex relationship between processes, suggesting that memory and imagination may contribute to, but are distinct from, a capacity for empathy.Jan 9, 2013

Do you really want to keep this up?

I did engage, they didn’t. That’s how that ended.

Once again getting further from the point with irrelevant info.

The point is that empathy is imagination because you are drawing from personal experience to guess what the other person might be feeling. It’s not you actually feeling. It’s also got nothing to do with mirror neurons per your data.

NO! The point is that imagination is a result, not a cause.

Mirror Neurons, Empathy And The Neuroscience of Storytelling

By Kyle PearceOctober 1, 2024

The Evolutionary Neuroscience of Storytelling:

Neuroscience and evolutionary biology research suggest that both transportation and identification are related to our ability to empathize with others.

Neuroscientists at the University of Cambridge are looking at specific parts of the human brain that are activated when we read a story.

A leading theory as to why storytelling is so powerful has to do with what’s called mirror neurons.

Mirror neurons are thought to be triggered inside our brains when we watch the actions of others. Many scientists believe that mirror neurons may help create the experience of empathy.

The proponents of the mirror neuron theory argue that immersing yourself in a story narrative activates your mirror neuron system.

In the mind’s eye of our imagination, we end up mirroring the emotions of the characters we empathize with. For example, when they are sad, we feel sad. When they are happy, we feel happy.

Much more…

The problem has been around long enough now that people getting psychology degrees are focusing their studies on social media. There are organizations that help neighbors, non-profits, anyone who wants to, get together and listen to each other. There are books on this. You look at this one person and focus your energy and anger on him. You look at the worst cases and say nothing is getting better.

:+1:

And you can look at the past election to see how little good any of that has done.

Probably because we are too self-absorbed, and coddled, so we’ve grown to become incapable of looking beyond our individual needs/wants, to consider anything beyond our own concerns.

Time to get back to the most fundamentals, such as starting off by working on recognizing the significant difference between the thoughts we play for ourselves in our heads, and the reality unfolding beyond our bodies.

Next to start to be able to reconsider the elevation “progress” to God status - and to start realizing the other side of the coin and all the down sides that every piece of progress seems to bring with it. Then more progress to fix the last mess, but oh shit, that’s created yet more UNFORESEEN CONSEQUENCES (yet often, oh so obvious).

But you don’t want to get into any of that.

Instead, lets look one the bright side of the past election results.
The nazi’s get their way with us for the next four years - how do you think that bit of progress is going to work out for this country and the world, let alone the Earth’s overlooked biosphere, we need for everything we do and want.

Expecting instant results. Typical American.

We still measure the health of the economy with GDP. I questioned that when I was 14 years old. If you figure out how to get rich people (measured by stuff and a number in a bank account and other fake metrics) to stop wanting to be more rich, let me know.

What goes through your head when I tell you that you are wrong about what goes on inside my head?

I’ve been tracking that for decades also. It has been rare for AGW to be a question in any of the presidential debates. This year, they asked both of them the same question.

Oh, so this FOX faux news media, just popped up in the last couple years?

So tell where is Earth’s biosphere can other creatures figure in those calculations/

Well you always seem smugly satisfied with the situation, while I’ve been watching a half century of backsliding into a society of ignorance and self-serving disregard for the rest of society. One crushing, but ignore, bad decision after another, Democrats incapable of thinking past superficial priorities, incapable of getting real with the people and striving to create the kind of populist machine the Republican’s build one a card house of lies and tons of billionaire cash.

We’ll see how that goes plays out how that they own all of it. Hell you think there’ll even be another presidential election. Of course there will, their Russian handlers will be able to explain to them how elections are done.

But, it seems okay by you, same as it ever was.

And I have said many times that I am not. I’m searching for some name to put on your logical fallacy of saying that I’m saying “same as it ever was”. I’m not saying that. I suppose it’s the basic mind reading fallacy. But if all you tell me is “well it seems like you’re doing that”, I can’t decipher your intentions

Decoding Mind Reading Fallacy: Impact on Perception & Judgment | logiccheck.ai

Here I’ m agreeing with you. I’m pointing out that you and I understand GDP is a bad thing but I don’t know what to do about it, at least not in the short term. I do many things, how I act and make choices everyday, that I believe will impact these global issues, but I’ve tried discussing those and you react like you are reacting now.

I sure can’t decipher yours.

If you want to do something about it, we could start with getting a real handle on who we individual people really and to appreciate what is our fantasies and what is physically reality.

But you assure me our philosophy is no problem at all, and this contest has always been happening and that well, well, that’s that.

You dropped a word two out of that post. Ask me whatever. Not sure what you’re suggesting, but no objections so far.

It is the cause, because you aren’t the person and therefor can’t tell what they are feeling so you imagine what it might be like based on past experience.

I mean to be fair, why would or should we? Most people are just trying to get by on the day to day that they don’t have the luxury to think of anyone else.

According to brain science there is no difference between the two.

Because we are a social species.
Okay, you got me, these days all bets are off, especially if you know only city streets.

I don’t expect most will get it, very few have understood me for the past 50 years, but it’s my fears being played out on the world stage, as opposed to starry eyed daydreaming - you see, it turns out I had extraordinary parents that taught us kids, and prepared us for life, in a way today’s Hollywood generation can’t fathom. It’s tragic.

I grew up on stories of adventures and pioneers and inventors and scientists, people that did real things with aspirations and such. I watch my grandkids and the digital media advertising money sink of a world they are already plugged into. Then I listen to you and am sad because you are an example of a child who’s caregivers failed him, no matter their intent, good or bad, the bottom line is the time spent with kids and the nurturing they receive.

When I was a grade school aged kid this Rat study was all the media rage, like I said had interesting parent that exposed us a lot, and who encouraged us to pay attention at school, so we did. Plus the rat studies were even brought up at my grade school John J. Audubon. Along with ducking under desks during air raids.

It’s worth thinking about. Any time this is brought up, it’s like with Thomas Malthus, objections and rationalizations are brought up to dismiss this study and associated thought experiments in our minds. But from my over half century of being an attentive witness to world events, all the evidence is pointing to us being no more advanced than rats, when it really comes down to the nitty gritty of our nature and what happens when we get over-crowded.

That bizarre where do you get that idea? Can you explain?

You are saying there is no difference between physical reality, atoms, molecules, chemistry, biology, the rules they follow - vs - the thoughts your body/mind produces and that you hold within your mind?

Does the notion that you are an evolved biological creature, the product of Earth’s processes make any sense to you?
