Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom, Pasolini’s film is again released in theaters, in France.
It is one of the most violent, most pornographic films that can be, even if the sequences which could have been the most shocking suggest more than they show.
When it was released in 1976, I had to leave the room to breathe, but I went back. Indeed, it is the strongest film I know to show the true nature of fascism.
Salò seemed to be made simply to be transgressive and not much else. Everything about it struck me as silly rather than horrific.
Of course I’m from a different generation and not European, so maybe there were some aspects to it which don’t translate well.
I wonder why it is being re-released in France?
Honestly, no idea and this new release seems strange.
It’s a renaissance of those days. Haven’t you noticed?
Yes i have, and many of the barriers existing at this time are gone
in 1930 the workers organizations were strong, many powerful political parties were strong supporters of democracy and so.
