Increased life expectancy is not a good thing at this time. The Earth has just about reached the limit when it can no longer sustain additional human population growth without major shifting demographics.
We are already in the midst of the 6th extinction, the Anthropocene Epoch.
This year is indicative of what we can expect if the current trends continues.
There are better ways to deal with that problem than limiting our life expectancy. Although I would be in favor of something like limiting some advanced medical treatment for the very old.
These are inverted in the U.$. aren’t they? I don’t buy into Pinker’s claims that we are doing just fine on the global stage. It’s a neat perspective to flip things over, but it does nothing to move anything. We could be doing much better in terms of egality.
Our very proteins are folding in strange new ways due to trace amounts of novel chemicals provided by our new technologies. Corporations who make such chemicals would be on the hook for the rise in such health effects, and if substantial enough would end the existence of that business, and so payoffs make sense to such an exorbitant extent that protections are found through legislation. Capitalism touches law regularly. This then yields the $600 epi-pen, which by the way would not have such need as it does today a century ago. Peanut butter on crackers was a snack for everyone. Try that today and you’d better be ready to shell out a couple thousand dollars for a decent sized class of second graders.
The political optics of capitalism, it could be argued, do actually require a propaganda state to hold things together. Of course this type of captitalism deserves a flavor assignment, but it is definitely ours. The pharmaceutical companies; supposed masters of chemistry there to help us… for a price… caught on a ladder of competition that lands our media swamped in their funding; listening to adds that have to list the potential side effects of a drug… what sort of psychological system is this? And then a failed vaccine gets protection at every level… then you hear that the manufacturers actually are on the hook, but then due to some recent legislation they are off the hook again… I don’t believe that the chaos that we witness comes from anywhere but our own system. I do witness the chaos, and it would be nice to blame the Russians, and I’m quite certain that we have caused them great chaos in the past, and so the reciprocal could be true, yet provably we’ve got a system that is free-running and eating its own tail.
The problem of corruption as a basic tenet; and of course methods of prevention; seems to me a basic lens to develop some optics. Clearly elections do still matter; otherwise we wouldn’t see such a work over on candidates. It’s lovely political theater, and to falsify the attacks is so easily done: just truly listen to the words of each candidate as directly as you can, and judge for yourself how you fell about them. Throw away all the rest. You could even try this with the world leaders, though it will require some translation. As to where the cool heads lay who are actually in control: it’s not here. Not in the U.$.A.
FAFA!
I think it will need to come from how people view death. There is already a lot of freedom to allow our bodies to die naturally. We can refuse care. But people don’t do it. Suicide is also legal if done correctly.
" More concerning, perhaps, is the trend of increasing prevalence of food allergies in all segments of the US population, notably children, although some of the increase may be due to better reporting over time. The prevalence of food allergies in children has increased 1% to 2% per decade according to one study.6 Recent data indicate that more than 40% of children with food allergies have experienced a severe allergic reaction such as anaphylactic shock.7"
The difference between the propagandized and the propagandist is of utter importance. It is nearly nill here. Furthermore, the lack of regard for the confrontation of the propaganda illegitimates the power structure here. How convenient… I think I’ll have a piece of American cheese… FAFA!
I hope I don’t get anaphylaxis…
To return to politics and optics, Max Blumenthal has agreed to debate RFKII on Israel/Palestine!
Now that is going to be optical.
I’m pretty sure eyes will be wide shut here though.
Many Americans reflexively express dissatisfaction with the federal government without regard for the specifics of what the government or its constituent parts may be doing. But as Rachel Maddow reports, a new poll suggests how Americans really feel about the state of affairs in the United States and why that’s good news for Joe Biden.
“The fundamentals are all about economy.”
Always has been, it’s what has put us on this dead end road we’re on . . .
Based on my prior realizations about Rachel Maddow, this puts Morning Consult on dubious ground.
No doubt they are a deep state tool prepared to fool the public.
Accountability for this poll is nill there.
What are your prior “realizations” and what do you base them on?
It’s interesting, I feel good will towards people and try to give them the benefit of doubt, someone like trump, who knows nothing but insecurity and his own needs, with an absolute disregard for society, or standards of behavior, nor legal, ethical standards. He’s crook towards everyone, so he can’t conceive of anyone not being a self-serving crook.
Many of his fans fall into that category - and you, all I know is how easily you want to ignore that I’m a stand up intelligent guy who speaks for himself. Sometimes I say dumb things and wish I hadn’t, but at least I can face up to them, when taken to task with solid evidence and arguments. I’m willing to recognize my error and correct as evidence dictates.
But, nah you can’t handle seeing me like I am, you gotta believe I’m some paid actor out it deceive. It’s in yo head.
The Anthropocene needs to be addressed in several ways, but whatever way is chosen, it will be in a form of the exponential function.
ie: 1% steady growth of anything = doubling time of 70 years
2% steady growth of anything = doubling time of 35 years
7% steady growth of anything = doubling time of 10 years
I can really recommend this excellent lecture by Prof Emeritus Albert Bartlett, where he addresses several existential issues.
Yup, it’s for real, yet listen to Christian Radio news and it’s not happening and everyone who is worried about it is doing society a disservice - seriously I couldn’t believe it. But, there it is on the radio, we have nothing to fear but feat itself.
Makes me thing of a doctor who’d say,
Mind over body matter is good as far as it goes.
But Matter matters.
The big problem is we’re destroying our age old supports systems and top loading like crazy, nothing can survive that for long. But we don’t want to look towards that, and really start dealing with the consequence and preparing what the hell we’ve wrought on Earth. Oh but pretty everyone is going to amazed, simply amazed, at what’s unfolding as the natural order of things. CO2 atmospheric insulation - it matters even more than elections matter.
The survivors will be the rare breed who can see through today’s priorities, down to the fundamentals.
Russiagate is something Maddow spent years covering, breaking fresh stories on the fly…
It’s too much to disputer here and deserves its own thread. If you want to take it up I can hold my side.
Thanks to some high grade authentic journalists, which are rare now.
I dismissed Newsweek long ago not just for their bias in taking the Russiagate feed, but for the cpu time their site consumes on my computer. As more and more are forced to address the grievances and Russiagate breaks down, then what of the Russophobia that has developed? Isn’t this what gives us moral authority in Ukraine? After all, their Russophobia isn’t so far away from our Russophibia, is it? Not when you connect it all together through the deep state…
In Godzilla We Trust! FAFA!
They published an opinion from the Donald himself. It’s called journalism, and comes with the statement at the end, it’s Trump’s opinion. Newsweek is not promoting him, they are giving you the opportunity to evaluate him.
The words are Trump’s, those are the propaganda you speak of. He is creating division. He is profiting off of you.
Look at today’s news. It’s about a quote from Jeffrey Clarke that he was ready to send the US military after anyone who protested Trump, and Trump approved of this.
Andy Ngo: " Consider what happened to Professor Bret Weinstein, who teaches biology at Evergreen College some two hours north of Portland. After taking issue with a planned day of racial segregation in June, Weinstein penned a letter to his colleagues explaining why he disagreed with the organizers’ request that all white people stay off campus. Soon after, around 50 students stormed his lecture, calling him a racist and supporter of white supremacy. Weinstein had to move his classes off campus due to threats of violence."
Andy Ngo: “Reflecting on this past year, I’ve come to accept that freethinking doesn’t flower naturally among nonbelievers. This was disappointing as I once naively saw organized religion as the root of many social problems. There is research which suggests that humans have evolved to be irrational as a survival instinct. Even if we remove organized religion from society, historic and contemporary examples show that other ideologies and orthodoxies, even genocidal ones, easily take their place. It is the role of skeptic and freethinking organizations to challenge irrationality in all its forms, whether they come from religious or secular dogmas. The social consequences will be heavy but heresy, the engine of progress, has never been popular.”
