Early in my computer career I realized the computer revolution was not going to live up to its would promises. I saw the pollution it was creating and that it wasn’t being talked about. Not to mention the concentration of wealth.
The next generation, the ones who were given the tools and are mostly tinkering with them, believes they are the smartest people in the world and should be able to shape it.
The dreams that were talked about in the early years of WIRED magazine are now nightmares.
CFI pointed to this old thread, which linked to a Heather Cox Richardson entry that covered this history back 100 years. The article here includes FDR too. We are well into the Trump legacy now. He will die but the system that empowered him will be much harder to kill.
Wannabe tech dictators have been a concern for a long time. At least since early 2010s.
It would be easy to limit them but the people who run the world are aligned with them – and always have been – so this is all nerdy mental masturbation.
