More death penalty hijinks.

Two guys were supposed to be executed in Oklahoma tonight. This was the first attempt to execute people with a new batch of untested
drugs.
The first execution attempt was botched and the prisoner suffered in agony. The execution was “called off” after the man was already injected!
He writhed in delirium for about 45 mins. before expiring. This is cruel and unusual punishment!
The next guy was scheduled to be executed 2 hours later. They postponed his execution for two weeks while they figure out what they are doing!
This is also cruel and unusual punishment of the highest order.
Cruel and unusual punishment is unconstitutional.
The Death Penalty was actually abolished briefly in the US until about 1976. Then they brought it back.
They brought it back.

Yes, thanks to the bloody "conservatives". Lois

While I think the death penalty is stupid, they can’t even do it effectively. Law enforcement collects huge amounts of morphine, heroin, date rape drugs, etc., and they can’t even get the person completely unconscious, then give him/her an major overdose of those confiscated drugs.
There are times when I feel that capital punishment should be reserved for moronic politicians.

In an anthropology course I took years ago, the text made a convincing comparison between ritual sacrifice in ancient cultures such as the Aztecs and current use of the death penalty in places like the US. There’s no evidence that the death penalty serves any other purpose than to give supporters the illusion of stability while in the states that use it, it actually increases the murder rate for several months after an execution.
Add in the well documented incompetence and corruption in the justice systems of many places and it becomes far more about power than real justice. In the US politicians often use death penalty cases to gain profile for personal gain.

It can always be counted on for votes from Republicans. Imply that it might be stopped and they'll rush to the polls in droves. Lois
