Saudi cleric missed science 101

We are all aware of how often fundy Christians reject science but now the Muslims have jumped on the band wagon as a Saudi cleric said the earth does not rotate around the sun. In fact he said it even stands still. Apparently the fundy Christians and the fundy Muslims have become one in a marriage in their heavens presided over by that old God of Abraham they are both so fond of.
Another way of describe it, by any name a nut is still a nut.

I’m getting a bit nervous about how much fundy Christians and Muslims have in common. On a recent FaceBook thread some Christians justified the death penalty because God instructs them to kill people for murder. They refused (or maybe could not) to discuss ethical theories regarding the death penalty, and told me I’m going to burn in Hell because I don’t believe in their mythology (yeah, I used that word). The scariest part is they were all cheering Utah for bringing back firing squads.

There are many similarities between Christians and Muslims. The people at the extremes are even more like each other. Lois

And even more likely to hate each other.

And why not? Their “sacred laws” came from the same source, kill burn, rape stone enslave and destroy the infidels. The only thing standing between the radicals and unbelievers here is secular law. It protects us from the religious wing nuts. Not so in the Islamic countries where ISIS is trying to erase the boundaries, reestablish their caliphate and bring about the Apocalypse. Sarah Palin and her ilk can preach about it here but that’s about all.
Cap’t Jack

I was really hoping the FaceBook discussion would get into secular vs. religious governments. I have yet to meet a fundy who understands that only a secular government can guarantee religious freedom. Unfortunately the thread ended with a couple of them warning me about my impending damnation and quivering before their invisible god on judgment day. I was surprised they didn’t bring up the age of the Earth.

It is after all only 6,000 years old ya know! I wonder if they really know how Bishop Usher came up with that date or do they really care? I mentioned before that my own mother said I was damned to Hell for not believing in the virgin birth even though I tried to explain the difference in interpretation of the Greek from the Aramaic “virtuous” woman. It didn’t matter because her preacher was the only source of biblical information, so now I’m headin’ for the hot place. Learning is a dangerous thing.

They don't want religious freedom-- at least not the fundie types. They want only their own religion and they want it to be in charge of all government or at least protected by it. That is their actual agenda. Religious freedom means other religions get equal treatment. Equality is the last thing they want. Lois

To a fundamentalist there is only "one" path to God and the afterlife and that's thru Jesus. Also, the King James Version is the only accepted Bible and it is to be taken literally, otherwise you can't even claim to be a Xtian. And BTW, all Catholics are hell bound because they worship idols. Oh, and America is a Christian Country founded on Christian principles, e.g. The mosaic Laws, period. Cap't Jack

Muslim fundamentalists are very different from Christian fundamentalists. If they both lived on a deserted island, they couldn’t agree on much, and their behavioral differences would cause conflict immediately.

The major difference being that the Muslim fundamentalists live in an environment that allows them to actualize their extreme belief whereas here they are restricted by law from stoning beheading or amputation. We criminalize this kind of behavior and have no religious courts to condemn unorthodox practices. And to follow your analogy, if the Muslims dominated the island the Xtians could live but they would be enslaved and made to pay a tax, whereas if the fundie Xtians had control the Muslims would be allowed to convert or go paddle to some other island. It is an island after all; only so many coconuts to go around. Cap't Jack

The Christian women would also breed with the Muslim men, but not the other way around, so the Christians would be gone in a generation or two.

But if the Muslim women convert, then marry Christian men the reverse happens. And why wouldn't they especially since the Christians who are Laissez Faire capitalists now control most of the coconuts having made trade deals with the Muslim leader for rare seashells. Cap't Jack

Nah, the Muslim men will get the women because they have higher sex appeal, and the Christian capitalists won't stand a chance against Arab rage. It's a slightly funny example, but it expresses the differences between the groups.

All fundies are the same religious or not. All they are looking for is an excuse to hate.
