I didn’t know that the pilot can turn off the black box transmitter, since they don’t want them all transmitting while the planes are on the ground at the airports. So, it’s quite possible that the reason there’s no signal from the black box is that it was turned off in flight.

I'm not sure where you found this but a couple of corrections are in order. Non-fact #4 - Not all missiles are large enough to show up on civilian radar at every distance. The plane was beyond the range of the control towers radar when it disappeared, and no one is suggesting a missile destroyed the plane anyway Non-fact #5 - The location of the plane when it went beyond the range of radar is known. The location of the planes last transponder reading is known, but the location of the plane when it stopped flying is entirely unknown because it was no longer on within radar range and its transponder was turned off. Non-fact #6 - Hijacking had nothing to do with the planes disappearance from radar. Civilian radar only extends about 250 miles from the source. This plane was flying over the ocean where there are no radar stations to pick up the flight once it left the range of the airport it left from. Every plane on this flight plan disappears from radar at the same point this plane did. I agree with the last statement that the plane disappeard in some way we do not understand yet but it wasn't little green men, the Bermuda triangle, a black whole, or any other supernatural nut job explanation. Personally I think the most logical explanation is that the plane broke into two pieces that crash landed on an island that exists in another dimension which is inhabited by a smoke monster and has a bunker underground. I hope they remember that they have to type in 4 -8 -15-16 -23 - 42 every 108 minutes. %-P

They can turn off the transponder, but that is different than the black box. I doubt a pilot can turn off a black box, but I'm willing to listen to someone who knows. Seems unlikely and dangerous. Lois

I was just reporting what an ex-navy pilot told me. He’s extremely bright so I’d give him points for that, but he’s also a Libertarian so who knows? :lol:
