First of all you and/or members of your family will have somehow survived being killed or captured by Assad or DAESH forces and somehow made it, despite possible illness, starvation, dehydration, drowning, or sundry other potentially deadly obstacles, to a United Nations High Commission for Refugees center (UNHCR).
Next, if you don’t have family in the US and the UNHCR otherwise deems it not to be a good placement, you never get the chance to be vetted for placement in the US.
If you make it past this screening, you get to enjoy an 18 to 24 month process of being vetted by
The National Counterterrorism Center, and
The FBI Terrorist Screening Center, and
The Dept of State, and
The Dept of Defense, and
The Dept of Homeland Security.
THEN, IF AFTER having gone through all of the trained interviewers who determine that your story about where you came from, why you fled, and anything else that you say, checks out,
you are finally allowed to set foot in the good old welcoming USA. OH Wait! No you’re not.
53% of Americans, now think that another step is needed in your vetting process, i.e., the heads of each of aforementioned agencies, may be required by new legislation, to personally review your file, and to personally guarantee that you will never be a danger to the USA.
As the heads of these agencies may be busy with devoting time to ACTUAL threats to national security, and since no one can truly guarantee that another human being will absolutely never pose a threat to others, sometime during their lives…
Sorry. Bye Bye. Thank you for your interest in joining our country.
That is, excuse the language, fucking moronic. It’s a bunch of pointless, paranoid, unrealistic bullshit. We may as well just round them all up and stuff them in internment…oh wait. Some folks are advocating that too.
About 200 out of the currently proposed 10,000 of the Syrian refugees who might have made it thru our current rigorous vetting process would likely be single males of combat age.
So if DAESH wants to infiltrate the US, trying to do so by embedding in the population of Syrian refugees, would be so inefficient and so likely to fail, that they are exceedingly unlikely to try to do so. Especially since there are much more effective ways of infiltrating.
What’s that you say, Syrian refugees? You’re tired? You’re poor? You’re part of a huddled mass of folks, yearning to breathe free? You’re the homeless, tempest tossed, wretched refuse of some teeming shore?
Well, bless your hearts, but this here is Amurica. Amurica, home of the brave. Where we’re so brave that we cannot tolerate the infinitesimally small threat that you may pose to our way of life. Here, we demand 100% guarantee of safety FROM you. And our grand political leaders are going to make sure that happens. Never mind that, in the meantime, they are not addressing REAL threats. I mean they do need to get re-elected.

Some folks are advocating that too.Sadly, too many voters in the USA are comforted from their "pointless, paranoid, unrealistic bullshit" concerns by politicians who provide tough sounding "pointless, paranoid, unrealistic bullshit" solutions.
But at the same time, they want just about no screening process or impediment to purchasing guns. When we have mass shootings by all of the white guy terrorists born and raised here, that is apparently not as evil as a darker skinned people shooting up places.

The NRA seems non-discriminatory to me. i.e., the NRA wants everyone to be able to purchase guns, white, black, crazy, criminal, terrorists, whoever. But that's another story.
I don’t get this country’s obsession with guns. They’re loud, they stink, and they’re dangerous.

Since you hate Freud, I guess you don't buy into the idea that guns are really good phallic symbols.Freud thought everything that wasn't a cube or a sphere was a phallic symbol. The man was obsessed with dicks. How's that for symbolism?
