Is human connection possible?

You’re not really engaging with what I’ve cited that counters what you’re saying.

Like here: Reddit - The heart of the internet

Pretty much all the links I cited argue against some sort of objective meaning and how what we take to be real is just a chain of “signifiers” we made up, meaningful only in it’s own web and not “reality”. At least per what psychoanalysis says.

I’m not engaging because it doesn’t counter anything. If everything is just a signifier then nothing you say has meaning. But you only apply that notion to others, not the random reddit thread that you like.

Here’s what we said 9 years ago to member that had questions like yours. It hasn’t changed.

That link to the Solipsism thread mentioned this thread on being ethical. I’m hoping I can find an archive of this amazing interview

I agree with that, but sometimes i contradict myself.

The man who is tortured because it is a common practice in his country suffers no less than the one who receives attention from the CIA!

Cultural differences aside, democracy is democracy. Human rights are human rights.

The young people demonstrating in Nepal, Morocco, or Madagascar, the crowds of the Arab Spring, the Iranian crowds of the Women, Life, Freedom movement, or in Tiananmen Square, demand them, demanded them.

To deny them this in the name of each country’s own cultural traditions is to reinforce the power of the powerful.

In West, too, these concepts are not easy to implement, and re regressing, even if they are less recent.

God-given or natural rights is part of man-kind history going back to Cicero’s in the BCs. England had Thomas Paine and John Locke, and we had Thomas Jefferson. Some historians call it the Age of Enlightenment.

Right now, we do not have our representative democracy or democratic republic system working until we rid the elite technocratic government management that has been placed in the departments over the last forty years. If you don’t like authoritarianism and prefer a democratic government. Then I suggest backing Trump.

As far as the good and bad issues. That is controlled, when possible, by wisdom. Our education system is lacking in wisdom and overanalyzes everything to death. Sometimes I feel the bible does a better job at teaching basic wisdom.

This guy will also tell you that Manmade Global Warming is a Chinese plot to fool Americans, so be aware.

Serendipity 101

You just can’t stop making stuff up, can you. Global Warming is an earth cycle taking over 70K years, that follows Global Cooling. Mankind contributing to this cycle is called Climate Change.

As America opens oil and coal to supply our cities. Why is it not a political election issue? It was when trillions of dollars were flowing to the democratic billionaires. The type of world I want to live in is based upon science. Not political science.

Science is showing better and higher crop yields. Less weather deaths. Plants are doing much better and earth’s cycle of the interglacial period may be extended. AI - “scientific evidence shows that humanity flourished during the current interglacial period, known as the Holocene epoch**.”** Humans do better in warm weather according to science.

So this is how they do it, none stop flood of one-dimensional drivel, ignoring all nuances, ignoring an awful lot of facts - but with trump as their leader, what else can we expect deny, deny, deny, with fingers in their ears - I CAN’T HEAR YOU - like a bunch of bickering five year olds.

Within specific limited situations, often with unrealistic supplemental support.
Crop increase through brute increase in farm land, and irrigation, that’s destroying other ecological environments, such as rainforests, that are also dearly needed in on healthy Earth -
and also practices that are not sustainable given increasing weather trends such as extreme and torrential flood causing rains, even as extended land massed are suffering more droughts.

The casualness of “earth’s cycle of the interglacial period may be extended” is only possible from an idiot’s perspective with an absolute ignorance and disregard for the breath and complexity of food crops and climate systems, and complex societies and complex biospheres we actually depend on, though they are ignored..

Does he mention this extended interglacial includes Andean glaciers and weather systems it fed to collapse - if you want to AI around

The Amazon is collapsing due to a combination of factors like deforestation, warming temperatures, and extreme droughts, which are weakening the forest’s ability to maintain its own water cycle. Scientists warn this could lead to a tipping point, where large parts of the rainforest transition into a drier, savanna-like state. This shift would reduce rainfall, increase wildfires, and turn the Amazon from a carbon sink into a carbon source, potentially impacting global climate patterns and causing severe weather events.

Himalaya, and other mountain ranges are having a heck of time too. Who ever thought glaciers helped hold mountains and even volcanoes together. Oops my bad the Yahoo’s will tell us. {look up flank instability (Alps, Himalaya) for some fun reading}

Well that’s part of the issue, the fact that everything we take to have meaning isn’t necessarily grounded in anything but only exists so long as we agree on it…

This isn’t really a morality after the absence of religion sort of thing.

About Trump :Personally, I wouldn’t trust someone who tells me to drink bleach to cure myself.

About democracy, i would not trust someone who utilizes the whole of the state strength against the people he sees as his ennemies.

I would not trust someone who gives himself the role of eliminating political opponents, called “ the enemy of within”. It reminds me the totalitarian states, or McCarthy.

And i would not trust someone who send army against the people of his country.

And i would not trust someone who uses his functions to become richer.

You’re not adding anything here. Repetition. Aka, only posting to post. Aka trolling

You brought up good vs bad. You said it’s strictly social. I’m saying it’s based on how we evolved and why we survive. Now you’re dismissing my response.

I banned you for months because you were repetitive, circular, and self-contradictory. I hoped you would come back differently but you started up where left off. Don’t be surprised when one day you can’t login.

I find it hard to believe people are stupid enough to repeat something so stupid. What level of common sense must one have to think Trump told people to drink bleach? Can I interest you in some great swamp land in Florida?
As far as trusting someone. You are best off by not trusting anyone. Are you not controlled in France by EU people you never got to vote for?

Well he irresponsibly used the word disinfectant … I concede

But I am happy your share my other reasons to distrust Trump.

A source

But then we know that YOUR beliefs aren’t worth the hot air you expend on them.

His entire worthless, nay destructive, life is nothing but sarcastic performance art, and idiot Americans loved him for it. Plus he pissed off liberals, what more does one need to become a GOP God. Now we watch as American gets destroyed from inside out.

Sometimes there’s nothing like music to send a message, or to just enjoy, as the case may be. And sometimes a discussion simply brings a song to mind, that worth’s sharing.

(good luck inthedark - have you ever thought about trying to bring a shelter dog into your life?)

l did not plan this, blame it on the universe. Cleaning up the cabin, getting ready for my babe to return tomorrow, YouTube in the background rocking me out, then a sidebar video caught my attention, ignored it, but it remained there, and started gnawing at me - since I’ve become a dog-person, finally couldn’t resist the click-bait any longer and clicked it expecting I don’t know what. Actually, expecting that I’d switch it off after a little while - I could not do it.

It simply turned out too good to cut it short - and now I can’t resist sharing it on this thread, somehow it seems pertinent.

Syncronicity is a beautiful thing.

It’s not repetition, I literally posted points that countered your claims and you posted one about morality after religion which isn’t the point.

But even that is still social in a sense, there is no objective measure of good or bad even if you want to make the argument from evolution. Evolution cares about survival and nothing else, what works works. We argue against murder when in the past killing each other in different tribes was the norm yet today it’s not.

the evolution argument doesn’t get around it being strictly social, especially when you consider humans to be social animals.

This is where we were before. You say they are counter arguments, but they aren’t. Mind your manners and you can stick around for now

That is a gross oversimplification.

But it’s hard to recognize from within a bubble.

They are. The point behind them is about the limitations of language itself and the fact that we are born into a sort of social net by which we understand the world and ourselves. And yet that gap between our own experience and language is the point being made, that divide that one cannot breach. When someone talks to you you assume you know what they mean based on shared word usage, but when it comes to emotions and other personal aspects we cannot truly know.

That’s where that point about the feeling of connection being an illusion comes from, there is no direct and unmediated connection between two people, there is a gulf between folks. If there were such a direct connection there would be no need for language let alone any misunderstandings in language. That’s where that link I posted about Lacan saying “there is no sexual relation” comes from.

It doesn’t really matter what evolution led to, because there are other things it adapted us for that we leave behind due to being destructive (tribalism for one, at least we say that). Like every link I posted lists a argument against universals.

How is it oversimplifying? Evolution just cares about passing genes on, and to that extent it accepts what works. It’s not a strength contest like some folks think but rather just luck for the most part.

how is that an oversimplification.

Except, I never said there were universals. You’re arguing something you think matters and applying it to a conclusion you made. You’re not engaging others.
