I have a friend over who is hard of hearing. I feel like I’m living in an old folks home. Everyone is yelling, repeating themselves, pretending to hear each other. If I lose my hearing I think I’ll just stop talking and have everyone text me.
What? You’re talking about my whole life. My grandmother, my mother, and my aunt wore (wear for my mother who’s still alive) hearing aids all my life and the noise level was always loud. I learned sign language, because I know eventually I’ll be just as bad off. It’s already started actually. My grandfather would hide out in his den when we all got really loud.
I have missed a couple opportunities to get help learning sign language. Maybe karma is getting me.
