This is a video of a recent Lake Superior Freethinkers meeting. I used to go to most of the monthly meetings, but it got to be too much. Somehow, they have managed quite well without me. The beginning has some audio issues, but it gets better. Much of it is things I’ve said in other ways with other sources. He is giving feedback to the group similar to things I’ve said to them, but his academic background has him doing it better than me. Here’s a key slide, after he’s described some other ways of presenting your point of view, he gets to this:
It is a scientific approach. Don’t identify with your conclusions; expect them to change. Go to values, not belief statements. In conversations, discover what the other believes and how they came to believe it.
This can be helpful in anything; on this forum, in politics, talking to your kids, as well as conversations with religious believers.
