Ten rockets were fired at an Iraqi military base hosting U.S.-led coalition troops Wednesday, the latest in a series of rocket attacks in IraqThat must be Iran acting as ISIS' defacto ground forces again.
“HOSTING”. Good word.
Hows that hook in your mouth over wmds ? Not too painfull?
Oneguy – troops didnt leave syria afganistan or iraq under trump. Bases round the world still in place under trump. Funding of military increased under trump.Same same. Remember Soleimani?
Yes, Trump did not withdrawal completely but he reduced US involvement. The Afghanistan war is basically over.
US Troops in afganistan? A military base?
US Troops in afganistan? A military base?Yes. Our troops need a base of operations to work out of in support of ISIS.
It’s not like we can park an aircraft carrier group on their border.
“It’s not like we can park an aircraft carrier group on their border.”
It’s not like we can park an aircraft carrier group in our own country.
US Troops in afganistan? A military base?Like I said, not a complete withdrawal. A small deterrent force is still there unnecessarily, but the fighting is over. The usual suspects are trying to prolong it but the ball is not in our court and never will be again.
What a waste of lives and money Oneguy!! Taliban in control
Here’s an update:
Trump's Deal To End War In Afghanistan Leaves Biden With 'A Terrible Situation' March 4, 202 - Heard on Fresh Air - Terry GrossThe Trump White House agreed to a May 1 troop withdrawal. New Yorker writer Dexter Filkins says Biden must now decide whether to honor a deal that included the Taliban but not the Afghan government.
TERRY GROSS, HOST:
This is FRESH AIR. I’m Terry Gross.
One of Donald Trump’s campaign promises was to end the war in Afghanistan. Last year, he negotiated an agreement with the Taliban to withdraw all U.S. forces by May 1 of 2021. That’s less than two months away. Not represented in that agreement were members of the Afghan government. (isn’t that just like the Donald dick, short cuts and delusional thinking all the way, but than, what did he care - trump never signed an agreement he wasn’t happy to unilaterally break.)
They’re now negotiating with the Taliban. Meanwhile, President Biden, having inherited the Trump deal, faces some tough choices, as my guest, Dexter Filkins, explains in his new piece in The New Yorker. If Biden succeeds in pulling out troops, he will end a forever war. But with U.S. troops gone, civil war could flare up, the Taliban could take over and the war Americans fought could be deemed a failure.
Filkins was in Afghanistan in December and January. He started reporting from Afghanistan in the '90s. He covered the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for The New York Times and joined The New Yorker as a staff writer in 2011. He coined the phrase “The Forever War,” which is the title of his now-classic book about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It won a 2008 National Book Critics Circle Award. Filkins also won a Pulitzer Prize, two George Polk Awards and three Overseas Press Club awards. His new article is titled “Last Exit From Afghanistan.” We recorded our interview yesterday.
Dexter Filkins, welcome back to FRESH AIR. It’s been a while. …
Cc then what should bidens policy be on this ??
Are nukes still an option? ?
That would really piss off the orange boy, that President Biden got to Push The Button!!
"Are nukes still an option? "
Moderators i find this post highly offensive. What is CFIs policy on speech that advocates mass murder?

It seems to me people get offended too easily now days. Unless you have a clear reason as to why you are offended. Saying “I’m offended” isn’t a clear reason. The statement alone doesn’t state if it is for or against nukes, so before you start screaming, “I’m offended” please find out more from the person who made the statement.

Not sure what specific rule could apply to that. I don’t see anything here that isn’t on the table by major powers in the world. This is an adult forum, so sex exists, murder exists, war exists. The comment seemed more like sarcasm than advocacy to me.
I’m not required to respond to every comment. I have no problem with either of you at this point. Issues and Complaints should be made in the Issues and Complaints sub-forum. (Which you’ve already done. Never mind.)

It’s all moot in 2021. Taliban won and they know we will completely lose interest sooner rather than later. Like the old saying goes, we have the watches but they have the time.
I agree with you oneguy. The soldiers gave their lives for nought.
I agree with you oneguy. The soldiers gave their lives for nought.Revenge for 9/11 (provided you don't think 9/11 was an inside job)
Death of Osama bin Laden (if one cares to believe)
Base of operations for Iraq invasion so Bush-43 could avenge (or show off to) his father and capture and kill Saddam Hussein
Another surge for the Military-Industrial complex
Benefits abound!
trumps-deal-to-end-war-in-afghanistan-leaves-biden-with-a-terrible-situationNot too different than the deal Bush made to draw down troops in Iraq after he was out of office leaving President Obama with a damned if you do - damned if you don't situation.
Though Bush did negotiate with the nations leaders, not terrorists.
"Revenge for 9/11 (provided you don’t think 9/11 was an inside job):
It wasnt revenge. Most of terrorist were suadis, your ally
No afgani was involved in 9/11. The root cause was left untouched unpunished once again.
"Another surge for the Military-Industrial complex
Benefits abound!"
Only a sick person in the mind would come to the conclusion that the US response was a positive as it benefited the MIC with 10 s of thousands of soldiers dead or severly injured including mentally and a million iraqis dead and god knows how many afganis
