Donald Trump

Fox News seems to be declaring Carly Fiorina the winner of the pre-debate debate. Given that one tech reporter once described her as “the dumbest person I have ever met" that doesn’t speak well of the bottom tier candidates.
The top tier isn't fairing very well either. I'm watching the debates as we speak and so far all we've learned is that Hillary's bad for the country, Iran should be invaded, we don't need social security, Trump is a billionaire, God should run the U.S. And Rand Paul is an idiot. The only candidates who aren't showing their ass are Kasich and Bush, well so far anyway. Funny how Fox is actually choosing the candidates for the Republican Party, and they haven't even had a nominating convention yet. Cap't Jack

We also learned that Trump is nice because he didn’t ( although he actually did) call Obama incompetent on TV.

He obviously never met Trump. Lois Hey, but he's the front runner. :ohh: __________________________________________ And not that dumb apparently . . .
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3317788/posts As of the reporting date, the Trump Campaign had spent a total of about $1.4M. Here’s how it breaks down. Travel is the largest expense category by a wide margin. Most of it falls under a single line item: a $506,486 expense to Tag Air, Inc. – a private airline owned by Donald Trump. The Campaign’s expenses also include payments to several other Trump entities: $37,993 paid to The Trump Corporation as a “ONE-TIME REIMBURSEMENT FOR FACILITY, RESOURCES & DOMAIN NAMES" $19,166 rent paid to Trump Tower Commercial LLC $4,054 to the Trump Soho Hotel $1,380 paid to the Trump International Hotel And Tower $4,049 paid to Donald Trump himself for “IN-KIND – PRE-PAID PAYROLL" In total, at least 38% of the Trump Campaign’s $1.4m of expenses was paid to Trump-affiliated entities.

But in recent years the resort has struggled, taking on tens of millions of dollars in debt. Last week, it filed for bankruptcy. The failure threatens to cost the island’s taxpayers, as the project was financed with millions in government-backed bonds. Its 90 or so employees face an uncertain future. Yet for Donald Trump, the deal was a total winner. He put no money down but took a cut of the annual revenue — mostly for allowing the resort to bear his name. “We made many millions of dollars on it but never invested a dime," said Trump’s son Eric, an executive in the Trump Organization.

OMg! Wow! Capt Jack, you are dead on re: FOX News choosing the Repub Candidate! From the 1st moment of the Big Debate, Trump was a victim of a FOX News hit job. The one and only dreaded “hands up” question was the VERY 1st question AND it was singularly designed, clearly, to put Trump, and only Trump on the spot. Trump also did his self no favors by showing that he is a one trick pony and little else. He only has his Trumpistic bombasity. He has nothing beyond that. He revealed that he has no, even basic, valid ideas re: what to actually do about real policy issues.
I think Trump has peaked in his popularity.
Re: Whose stock rose from this 1st debate: Rubio got relatively softball questions, and handled them well. He should go up a bit in the polls. Kasich should go up a tiny bit. Huckabee, the most theocratic of a theocratic bunch, will probably go up a bit. Carson did unexpectedly well. His poll numbers will go up. But if some poll numbers go up, then others must go down. This does not bode well for Trump.
Re: One general impression that I had: God rules the Republican Party and the Republican Party and FOX News wants God to rule the USA, which means we should all get used to the idea of marching to someone’s interpretation of Christian Theology.

I think Trump has peaked in his popularity.
Would be nice - though from what my gal's been finding on the web - seems he's going to be getting the sympathy vote for being set-up and picked on by those nasty people at FAUX News. On the bright side, maybe he can be a third party candidate - now that would be fun to watch.

But with regards to actual policies, this was his chance to show that he has something beyond being a blowhard. He just provided the same shtick, that he has shown heretofore, nothing else... nothing.

In the Happy Hour Debate of the Blind, the one-eyed Carly is king for a day. As a republican I understand the Carly pick. but Jim and George were the only ones I thought that even talked republican. Lindsey and Rick are not backing what I thought was the republican path at all. Round file the whole happy hour bunch.

Having never really watched or listened to him I only had a vague sense of Huckabee as an ultraconservative theocrat but I never realized how dangerous he was until I saw that debate. He is quite literally an American Ayatollah with a cross.

Yea, I had the same feelings about Huckabee. Ben Carson moved up a lot on my list. But Trump doesn’t have much of a hill to climb to top this bunch in the broader national picture. He may have lost some in areas. But when you’re on the top, all you can do is lose. Consider it a win if you’re still on top after the debate no matter how much you lose. I’ll make a prediction right now that if Trump is the runner, he picks Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Yeah, Huckabee will probably get a bit of a bump in polling precisely because of his intensely theocratic orientation. I think he was inferring that he would stack the Supreme Court so that it will be Constitutionally determined that a fetus, at the moment of conception, has all the protections of any citizen, including protection from its mother. It seems that Huck and at least a couple of others of the bunch are comfortable with the government forcing a pregnant woman to give birth, even if the pregnancy is a product of rape and/or incest, and even if the expectant mother is likely to die without an abortion. As far as anyone who would choose Sarah Palin as a running mate, I think they should volunteer for one of those 1/2 brain-ectomies, that Carson was bragging about, because, obviously, at least 1/2 of their brain is not functioning properly.

I liked Carson’s plan on taxes which move him up on the list. But I could never vote for him because of his mixing of religion into policy making. A major problem with most of the republicans. If someone like Huck get chosen to run, I’ll have to change parties. Palin, is down to earth, the republicans like her. VP’s are figure heads anyway. And you can only take so much of Trump whereas Palin will come across as more of the family person in the white house. Something to offset a pregnant Chelsea. And Palin would be better talking with the public than Trump. Hillary will get a lot of the woman’s vote, Palin might pull some of those votes from Hillary. Right now the experts have the Democrats winning by only two electro votes.

Dick Cheney certainly wasn't, nor was LBJ.

You do know that Bristol Palin is pregnant with her second, out-of-wedlock child, right?]
And Palin would be better talking with the public than Trump.
That's a pretty low bar, you're setting.
Hillary will get a lot of the woman’s vote, Palin might pull some of those votes from Hillary.
I seriously doubt that.
Right now the experts have the Democrats winning by only two electro votes.
And which experts would those be?

Dam it you just threw a wrench into the gear work, no I did not know Bristol was pregnant with out-of –wedlock child. That changes, "good" to "bad". Right now the experts have the Democrats winning by only two electro votes. And which experts would those be? I tried to get that information for you. It was a research group that is able to claim 100% on their picks so far. I got this new Windows 10 and I cannot find the search history, like in Google. I think it is a little better than Google, but it is going to take some time to get familiar with. If I can find it, I will get back to you with the information.

Dam it you just threw a wrench into the gear work, no I did not know Bristol was pregnant with out-of –wedlock child. That changes, "good" to "bad".For someone who so fanatically defends the Republican party, you seem to know very little about the Republicans you're a fan of. This information has been broad public knowledge for well over a month now, and Sarah Palin's falling popularity with members of the Republican Party has been an ongoing fact for a number of years now. Perhaps you should sit down and take a look at what the Republican Party does stand for, and not what you think it stands for. For example, if you're a Republican and you don't make frequent references to God, you will not get the nomination. Period. Paragraph.

I don't think you will be able to find it. fivethirtyeight.com is considered to be the "gold standard" of election predictions, and even they do not claim a 100% accuracy rate.

Tucker,
I look at the status of the political parties a few years back and came to the conclusion that the parties have all changed over time. We have become more socialist and the Russians are now using a lot of the capitalist ideas. I was not surprised the other day when they ask the spokesperson of the Democratic Party to explain the difference between a democrat party and a socialist. She couldn’t.
I don’t think I defend the Republican Party that much, I just want the party that will protect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Right now I don’t see either party is doing a good job. I’m going to vote for the guy and not the party. Everyone on this site is down on Trump. Except maybe me. And it is not so much what he if for. I don’t think Trump really knowns what he for. But we do know what the other guys are really for.
Operating the country like a business, I think will work because the rest of the world that uses the dollar suffers when we screw up. And boy, have we been screwing up the economy really bad. And the other countries suffer when we do that. Look at what is going on in the financial areas. The rest of the world wants to create an alternative to the US dollar. If that happens, our kids and grandkids standard of living will never be as good as we have it today.
If we want to help the climate problems, police the world and help other countries we better have a good and healthy economy.
On the god and Republican nomination, you’re right. But so far I have not heard Trump use god. But if guys like Huck stay in the running, Trump might have to, to beat them.

Tucker,
Couldn’t find the site, but this one I think is talking about the same thing.

Mike, I am glad you post your thoughts on this forum. Not only because you often bring a unique perspective, but also because you have the chutspa to proclaim yourself to be a Republican (for now), in a forum dominated by anything but Republicans. Also, because, despite seeming irrational, at times (e.g., Sarah Palin, sheesh!) your comments are often quite rational even though they might diverge from comments that are more typically posted here.
And I have seen self-proclaimed Republicans who somewhat consistently present themselves rationally, though they are rare, and do not generally represent the mainstream views of what the repub party has become.
re: Fnding a repub presidential nominee who does not, at least, present themselves as being eaten up with a Christian theological interpretation of one kind or another.
That will be damn near impossible, these days. Your best bet there is Donald Trump, but the Party will/can not allow him to be the nominee. You’re correct, I think about Carson’s religiosity. He basically espoused the idea of a flat tax on income, but presented it as a tithe, and the Biblical thing to do. (weird) There are a few of the candidates that one might infer are not eaten up with religion (i.e., who may even believe in the separation of Church and State) but they can never admit it, else they cannot be the Repub nominee.

Tucker, I look at the status of the political parties a few years back and came to the conclusion that the parties have all changed over time. We have become more socialist and the Russians are now using a lot of the capitalist ideas. I was not surprised the other day when they ask the spokesperson of the Democratic Party to explain the difference between a democrat party and a socialist. She couldn’t.
Who was she? Who was asking her this question?

Donald Trump is for whatever he thinks will bring the most attention to himself. According to people I know who've worked for Trump, his manner of running his businesses (and let's not forget that Trump's filed for bankruptcy at least 4 times) is that the other people assume most of the risk, while he gets most of the profits. If the venture fails, it costs him little to nothing, while everyone else is out a considerable sum of money.
And the standard of living we have today is not nearly as good when taxes were higher on the wealthy and large corporations. Operating the country as a business makes about as much sense as deciding if you should pay for your kid to go to the doctor based on if you'll be able to turn a profit on it or not. If the US is attacked by an enemy, we don't want the government worrying about if they're going to be able to turn a profit on the deal.
If we want to help the climate problems, police the world and help other countries we better have a good and healthy economy.
And one of the ways we can have a good and healthy economy is by tackling climate problems.
On the god and Republican nomination, you’re right. But so far I have not heard Trump use god. But if guys like Huck stay in the running, Trump might have to, to beat them.
You haven't been paying attention, then. http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/18/politics/trump-has-never-sought-forgiveness/

Moody's, ah yes, one of the companies which is responsible for the banking scandals. In 2012, they predicted that Obama would get 303 electoral votes: http://www.washingtonpost.com/pb/news/wonkblog/wp/2012/11/05/pundit-accountability-the-official-2012-election-prediction-thread/?resType=accessibility He got 332: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2012 Projections this far out are worthless anyway, because a lot could happen between now and then.
